I am extremely guilty of Point 3. 😢 I did a yearly plan in the YouVersion app. There were so many days where I raced through the reading just so I could get the dopamine hit from the pop-up screen saying I’d completed the day. I’m trying a new approach for 2025. I’m using a physical Bible instead of an app and I’m going to use time rather than chapter count. I printed out a yearly chronological plan for some general direction. My plan is to just read for 20 minutes and then to spend a few minutes journaling about what I read using the ideas from your journaling printable. I don’t know how long it will take to read through the Bible this way and I’m trying not to care.
I stopped reading the Bible on the YouVersion app and read in my study Bible. I got so much more from reading it that way than listening. I still used the schedule but put it in my planner. Sadly, I fell behind and just recently finished the Old Testament. I created my own plan and learned so much. For 2025, I am going to create my own reading plan.
Eh it doesn't matter when or how you read it. You can read it fast one moment and then the next year you can read it slow and break it down verse by verse, then the next year you can read it word by word etc. Just read! and then read it again!!!
I'm doing it a little different this year... #1-Using a different translation, #2-Reading thru it WITHIN the year(probably 6-12 chapters per day & using a pocket calendar to write each day what I read), #3-Using a notebook to note what and why certain scriptures pulled at me that day. Previously, I may have underlined or highlighted scriptures that spoke to me but then later on down the road not remembering why I did it. I really like your idea of color coding different categories in the bible and using a new bible every year. I've also realized just how important context is...even though there are things that were told to the Jews, it is still a revelation of God's character and how that it can be applied to us, even though it may not have been said to us directly. God doesn't change, and neither does His character. He remains the same then, now, forever.
Hi Eva! I'm so glad you were finally able to make time to do a video on why you _shouldn't_ read through the entire Bible in a year. I've been waiting for this video for two years now, because you did one then (2022) on why you should, but not one on why you shouldn't. You've been busy with your growing family, however, so that's understandable. I'm just glad you finally completed the circle for this topic. Two questions for you: I can't get a hold of understanding two of the more larger books of the Old Testament: Isaiah and Jeremiah. 1. Would it be a good idea to spend time in these two books for awhile --- maybe a few months in Isaiah and a few months in Jeremiah --- reading them over and over again for clarity's sake, until I understand them before attempting to read through the entire Bible in a year? Here's my next question. I wrote to you about a year or two ago asking you questions on how to Verse Map. If I remember correctly, I believe you said that you were going to do a video demonstrating this particular method of Bible study. I've been fascinated with this technique for getting into God's word, and I've watched alot of videos on how to do it, but I've always wanted to know what your method is. 2. Will you be doing a video on how to Verse Map? I hope to hear back from you regarding these two questions. Thanks Eva.
Well hello there!!! Thank you for your grace while I was away! 💜 I’m honored that you are still here. As for those longer books, yes! Read them repetitively for sure. I just recently went chapter by chapter through Isaiah and read through a shorter commentary on it as I went, and that was so helpful for me. You can email me for a commentary recommendation if you want or need one. And as far as verse mapping, I really have been formed in new ways over the last 2 years in my relationship with God, and honestly don’t use it much anymore. I might do a video in the future about it, but it’s not on my immediate radar. I am trying to take things a little slower these days to not plan too far in advance. So I apologize that I said I would and don’t see it happening soon. Having two kids really threw me for a loop. One kid came naturally, and then the second kid was a doozy 🤪 but the Lord really has formed me over the last few years in this harder season and I am excited to share some of the truths He has taught me here.
@EvaKubasiak Eva, Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful response to my questions. I really appreciate it. I hope you do do a video on verse mapping sometime. Like I said, I'm really interested in knowing how you do it. You know, your friend, Keith Ferrin, joined an online Bible memory community that I also belong to. I asked him how you were doing with the moderating of his Bible study community, and he said that you are crushing it! That's great, and I hope you're enjoying your moderating duties over there. 😃 So nice to hear from you again, Eva. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. Happy New Year and Maranatha! "Heaven" - Randy Alcorn You've gotta read this book if you haven't already. I loved it! "Unpopular the Movie" - 28:55 This is a wonderful documentary containing the gospel message that you can share with others, or listen to for yourself. It's very encouraging. I've seen it seven times and I love it. Hearing the gospel preached, never gets old. P S. I look forward to meeting you on the New Earth someday! 😊

I love that! It really takes a lot to not care about how long it takes 😅 you can do it!!

Me too. I felt that time going thru a specified plan became a box to check off and that hurt my heart.
