This is great, this video basically sums up the pre-W3 plot, and does not go over unnecessary details. Thanks for doing this one, it's exactly what I want.
It's nice to see the lore in this fancy cohesive package. Before it went bat-shit crazy in the MMO, lost focus completely, broke it with messy time travel and introduced a gazillion of power tiers in desperate need of raid bosses.
AmberDynamo WoW lore gets pretty rough. once they shift focus from characters like Arthas or Thrall to the player characters of WoW it starts getting clunky. @@Lawllin To me, Arthas' story was the peak of WC's storytelling and lore. The story wasn't as cool before it and it never got as cool after it ended in WotLK. Plus the Arthas novel fleshed him out as a character so much better than the actual game (for obvious reasons, but still) that I could easily call it "Anakin Skywalker done correctly." There are still some good storylines, especially in the books (War of the Ancients comes to mind, and Rise of the Horde was excellent).
@@magnenoalex2 If we are talking the prequel movies only, then I'd disagree. In the movies his fall and turn are rushed and hard to believe. I mean, sure, there are individual moments that set Vader up somewhat (like the massacre of Tuskens in Episode II), but there is a huge gap between wiping out a small tribe of sadistic slavers that killed your mother and literally slaughtering thousands of innocent and often unarmed people who've been your only family for a decade - not to mention KILLING CHILDREN IN COLD BLOOD. The CW series fixes some of the issues, though, so fair enough.

Holy crap! You did a phenomenal job with this video. I especially liked how you tied the end of the video to the beginning via Nher’Zul, because honestly the major events did kinda start with him, so well done. You did make one tiny mistake, however, in saying that the dragons made the World Tree for the night elves, then Illidan was arrested for having tried to create a new Well. It’s actually the reverse. Illidan did try to make a new well with his vials, and he succeeded, and then was arrested because of it. I wish I had seen this video 10 years ago. Warcraft 3 was the first game I ever played as a kid and still love it. I never had any problems with the story but it’s so cool to hear about so many things that factor in. Like the orcs first blood drinking. The original burning legion invasion 10,000 years ago. I've only been playing BfA and watched a few lore summaries, and this was kinda mind-blowing. Malfurion and Illidan brothers? The original Lich King used to be an orc leader? Everything about the night elves and Aszhara? Great video to start off a lore dive. I feel like reading some of the books now.
For the longest time Warcraft's story never made sense to me. Perhaps I was more into real world military, but thought the colourful universe of warcraft was interesting to try. All the fighting between orcs, humans, horde etc nothing made sense. Until now. I swear while watching your video I pulled up the movie Warcraft and the wikipedia entry about warcraft. Phenomenal story telling! Took me over 25 years to finally make sense of it.
I've been playing WC3 since the time it came out. I was a child. I enjoyed the story but not a lot of stuff made sense cause when you don't know the roots of a story everything seems all over the place. This video was sending shivers down my spine for 15 minutes straight. Especially the last part when I realized where the Lich King originally comes from. Love you so much dude ❤😃
I'm super glad you enjoyed the video. and thanks so much for the nice words, i really appreciate it! Comments like this really make my day, and they inspire to make more vids like this one. thanks again
This is really an amazing summary. In my head I had bits and pieces of the story (never having played 1 though) but you made the dots connect. Chapeau!
This is great, right now reading a fanfic called "A Nerubian's Journey" that takes place just at the start of Warcraft II and this really clears up what is going on/what will start to go on.
this was the first lore video i could actually follow along with and understand everything. Good Job man, like other people are saying you deserve more recognition for this one.
God dam your lore videos are perfect for me and my gf. Been playing wow for years but never could really grasp the full story. thanks so much and keep them coming
one of my personal favorite facts is: dreanor actually had no real name for the orcs. it was the drenai who named the planet after they crashed into it... as you do :D
The Horde attacks Lordaeron. They lose and they flee. The Horde attacks Turalyon at Aerie peak. They lose and they flee. The Horde attacks Quel'thalas. They lose and they flee. The Horde attacks Lordaeron (Again), but Gul'dan bails. And then they lose and they flee to Blackrock Mountain. The Alliance follows them and defeats the Horde, Doomhammer is then captured. I'm starting to see a pattern here XD Doomhammer was a pretty bad Warchief LOL
i've watched so many videos about the lore and didn't understand many of the things said because they tend to say every detail, but this? i listened to the end without losing interest. amazing! please do another one about wow.
thanks so much, that means a lot to me! I did make another about warcraft 3. I'm workin on some other stuff now and these take some time lol but i'll probably do a WoW related one in the near future :D
Wow! I absolutely enjoyed this! Brings me back to when I started playing warcraft 1. I remember the atrocious pathing and the fact that I had to connect all buildings with roads...oy. I'm dating myself now lol. Anyways, thanks for this video!
Ner'zhul was always a confusing character to me The Undead's Acolytes in WC3 constantly saying "For Ner'zhul" always made me wonder. How did their cult get started, and did the burning legion craft the Lich King's armour and the sword of frostmourne? And did Ner'zhul ever even have the sword of frost mourne? How did it get where Arthus found it? Also is Ner'zhul still alive in the armour when Arthus wears it?
Haha, before Arthas became involved the lich king was indeed Ner’Zhul , but he was kind of dead and frozen on his throne. So, he had necromancer a and lichs, like Kel’thuzad, do his bidding for him. As for the helm and sword , they are said to of come from “darker beings” at first , then during the Shadowlands debacle they said they were from there and the jailer… aside from that Ner’zhuls soul is said to be joined with Arthas which makes him the “true lich king” and now joined with a living powerful paladin, stronger than ever. But it’s kind of iffy about how, and again that’s shadowlands fault, but it seemed to me, originally the moment Arthas put the helmet on he became one with Ner’Zhul. The burning legion tries to use Ner’Zhul for their own gain, but I don’t believe they had anything to do with Frostmourne or his armor. I mean originally Muradin is out there looking for the sword himself! Like .. how did he find out about it? How did he know it’s name or it’s location? Haha, now I have questions.
@@grocksauce7422 wohw what, this comes up in Shadowlands? I know only surface level stuff about how the story continues in WoW. Aside from the expansion trailers and the occasional lore explanation video I pretty much know most of my facts from WC3 and from reading the wiki. It's very difficult to find stuff on Varian, still no idea why people are so hype about him 😅 I'm guessing you get to fight along side him in the game or something. But ye, Ner'zhul, when you hear the Acolytes mention him you don't think he's an Orc, then you find out he was never even on Azeroth just on Draenor, then you also find out he was a shaman not a warlock. Like what is going on with this character? It's like his legacy had way more influence on the world than his actual life 😅
@@Broockle This comes from the Warcraft: Rise of the Horde books. When Ner'zhul opens the dimensional gates, he manages to slip through one. Sadly, it was a one-way track to a personal meeting with Kil'jaedan. KJ calls Ner'zhul a failure and turns him into the Lich King before throwing him down into Northrend. This is why Kil'jaedan calls himself the creator of the Lich King. People are probably hype on Varian because of his Lo'gosh identity. You can read about it in the Warcraft comics if you'd like, but long story short, he has a history as a very strong gladiator, and I won't say more if you're interested in reading up on it. There are a lot of very interesting things in the WoW books if you're lore-savvy. The games should be better at presenting some of this stuff, but the books are very interesting reads regardless.
@@grocksauce7422 Unless this lore changed in Shadowlands, Ner'zhul and Arthas fought for mental control until Arthas eventually won. This happens once their minds fuse together at the end of WC3. Kil'jaedan put Ner'zhul's conscience into the Helm of Domination. He directly created the Lich King and plopped him in Northrend. I believe Shadowlands said something about the dreadlords giving the Helm to Kil'jaedan, but regardless, it's mostly the same lore it's always been. Ner'zhul is the type of guy who would have his cult spread word of Frostmourne. I don't know if this is confirmed anywhere, but it seems very likely the rumors were planted to one day unite Arthas with Frostmourne.
@@antarath517 I did read the original trilogy with ronin, then thrall then kadgar. I also read the trilogy that goes back 10,000 years into the past and they fight the first burning legion invasion. Been a long time tho. Those were good stories.

@@Lawllin I hope it too, I'm new to this kinda game and it can be a little overwhelming at first, but I really want to discover the lore of this game, so I hope I will like it all
Small addition for the end: Nerzul and his norhtrend undead army kinda had a war with azjol nerub which was quite difficult because they were immune to his undead virus kind of thing but they won and added their daed to their army anyway which made the scourge much stronger and then he send malganis (burning legion agent) and keltuzad (his own agent) to the eastern kingdom which lead up to the happenings in wc3 basically.

Everything about the night elves and Aszhara? Great video to start off a lore dive. I feel like reading some of the books now.
yeah this stuff gets pretty wild lol. im happy you enjoyed the video- and if you end up reading any of the books i hope you like those too :D
Crystal clear, beautifully articulated, well constructed, thanks mate

For the longest time Warcraft's story never made sense to me. Perhaps I was more into real world military, but thought the colourful universe of warcraft was interesting to try. All the fighting between orcs, humans, horde etc nothing made sense. Until now. I swear while watching your video I pulled up the movie Warcraft and the wikipedia entry about warcraft. Phenomenal story telling! Took me over 25 years to finally make sense of it.
Brilliant summary. I went through some terrible videos until I found yours. Thanks for this very well done work.
@@Lawllin lovely work you're doing here bud. Keep up 😄💪
Omg, this is awesome, this is perfect, i really appreciate that u are doing these lore recaps, they're amazing man!
This is... THIS IS PERFECT man, you deserve much more views, likes and subs ❤️ Awesome man, keep it up!
thanks a lot, I really appreciate it :D
This is really an amazing summary. In my head I had bits and pieces of the story (never having played 1 though) but you made the dots connect. Chapeau!
This is great, right now reading a fanfic called "A Nerubian's Journey" that takes place just at the start of Warcraft II and this really clears up what is going on/what will start to go on.
This video is amazing, thanks a lot for making this :)
thanks a lot :DDDD
this was the first lore video i could actually follow along with and understand everything. Good Job man, like other people are saying you deserve more recognition for this one.
Cutoff - Hip Hop Beats - thanks a lot; i really do appreciate all the comments you and everyone else has given!
@@Lawllin saved the video, great summary.
Rewatching all of these series, its so good and relaxing
Continue your hardworking for the fans of WC3 and WoW... Thanks 15:35
I like how you made this video using cards as representations of heroes and locations. Such a nice touch
The Hearthstone cards are really great for this video
God dam your lore videos are perfect for me and my gf. Been playing wow for years but never could really grasp the full story. thanks so much and keep them coming
one of my personal favorite facts is: dreanor actually had no real name for the orcs. it was the drenai who named the planet after they crashed into it... as you do :D
Great job! Loved the hearthstone cards and everything, I'm ready to play reforged now :D
thanks! I'm glad you liked it, and i hope you like reforged :D
This is an awesome video! Very clear and it makes my favorite game of all time, WarCraft III, even greater.
Tim Bentvelzen than you so much! Warcraft 3 is my favorite game also :D
I'm starting to see a pattern here XD
Doomhammer was a pretty bad Warchief LOL
i've watched so many videos about the lore and didn't understand many of the things said because they tend to say every detail, but this? i listened to the end without losing interest. amazing! please do another one about wow.
thanks so much, that means a lot to me!
Ner'zhul was always a confusing character to me
The Undead's Acolytes in WC3 constantly saying "For Ner'zhul" always made me wonder.
@@grocksauce7422
wohw what, this comes up in Shadowlands?
I know only surface level stuff about how the story continues in WoW.
Aside from the expansion trailers and the occasional lore explanation video I pretty much know most of my facts from WC3 and from reading the wiki.
It's very difficult to find stuff on Varian, still no idea why people are so hype about him 😅
I'm guessing you get to fight along side him in the game or something.

I did read the original trilogy with ronin, then thrall then kadgar.
I also read the trilogy that goes back 10,000 years into the past and they fight the first burning legion invasion. Been a long time tho. Those were good stories.
You read too fast with no inflections, but the visuals are very helpful. Also no miscellaneous accent is a huge help. Thanks for these vids!
I have seen some videos about WC lore and all of them are confusing as hell, going all over the place with the many, many, side stories. Now i finally understand what the main story is about.
Thats a lot of info but i guess you could've not summed it up better - as someone who barely played WC3 but a lot of wow up till Cata (and only some MOP) this helps a lot to understand whats going on. Good video man thx for that o7
this video was really helpful! i’ve just started wow classic and i’ve been trying to learn the lore from the previous games, your summary and especially the visuals have been the most helpful to me in beginning to get a proper grasp on things. thank you! n_n
Nice job, i was looking for a video like that. I played these games as a kid, but i dont remember much. I want to play Reforged campaign again, short story recap was what i needed.
That was fantastic. I was watching some lets plays of the first few games trying to figure out exactly what happened. I learned most of that, but you tied up some loose ends the games kind of glossed over.
Thank you really! I just now buyed reforge, my first Warcraft game ever, but I was scared I wouldn't Understand the Lore. Thanks to you I will have no problem! ^^
glad to hear it! hopefully you have a good time with warcraft 3, it's one of my favorite games :D
This actually explains the lore in a few minutes way better than the movie did in a couple of hours
Nice job with this! I've recently got back to Warcraft III and I'm already done with the main game, about half through the frozen throne and had no idea who the lich king actually was :0
lol yeah, they dont really tell ya much about what happened in the previous games. But i'm super happy you're playing (and hopefully enjoying) Warcraft 3! It's one of my favorite games! Thanks for watchin, and im glad the video was helpful :D
firstly this was too genius....was looking for something exactly like this...couldnt finish wc3 after my pc broke Down bt always wanter toknow bout wc 1,2
and it be hella great if u could do a chronological order video about all the warcraft books
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, great explanation. Having not played WC1 or 2, this was a nice way to be brought up to speed. Thanks!
Finally! My childhood answers is answered. I JUST LOVED THIS GAME SOOO MUCH
me too. i love warcraft 3 it's one of my favorite games lol
thank you so much, i searched who was the real litch king and couldn t find it on internet, and i found it 2 days later here randomly
lol im glad you were able to find out who the lich king was :D
I've read almost all novels now and by far the one I loved the most is Lord of Clans, the story of Thrall felt devastating and amazing at the same time. And also the story with Arthas and Jaina, they were almost expected to be wed and he just wasn't ready and was scared of having kids, idk man, I just loved the novels, the characters gain just so much more depth.
amazing video, man. Congrats. As a non-native English speaker, I struggled a bit to understand you cuz you were too fast at some points, but I think I got the message.
thanks for watching, i'm glad you enjoyed it! and i hopefully you check out the other lore videos i made- because i speak slower in those ones lol just had a lot to cram in this vid
Damn, Illidan was so based he was willing to go against everyone to stop the night elves descending into smug hippies who only rely on druidic magic. True hero.
He was shaking from withdrawal.
Tbh Warcraft 3 was the first game i ever played since i was too young for the other ones and wc3 was the first game that looked good. I had no idea what happened prior to the "third war" and wanted to at least learn the story since the first and second war are often forgotten. Most people only grew up playing wc3 and not the other ones
Really Good Video!
Thanks !
Nice video, ready to hop into reforged now!
Very underrated video. Good job man!
Such a great summary, thank you so much for doing this!
thanks a lot for watching! glad you liked it
Amazing recap. Very clear and to-the-point :) Great job
thanks a lot for the kind words :D
Really good job using the Heartstone cards and the visuals of the game together! The animations you used really helped as well :D
thanks! im glad it y'all like it so much, and i hope it told the story well enough lol
Best video on warcraft lore I've seen so far. Good voice too. I'm trying to learn more about the lore of the warcraft universe and thia video was pretty good. Thanks a lot for doing it.
:o I knew the ner zhul name rang bells but but it's very cool he was an orc! Thanks for the video love the presentation
These videos are the best, love the style.
The movie should've sticked with this storyline
Stuck
I know it's a year late but I just watched the movie. It was good. Not mind blowing but still a fun 2 hours.
They need an animated TV series
Really helpful! Thanks for the video.
thank You for watching! Makes me super happy that you found it helpful :D
It’s very good, thank you, you made everything very clear
Awesome video! The fact that you explain with the card help me out alot to understand and to follow. Thanks for your great work !
Dude, amazing work!
