Thank you for reacting to Mamamoo, the vocal queens of kpop. Looking forward to watching more Mamamoo reactions from you.
Left to right Moonbyul (rapper), Solar (leader, vocals), Wheein (vocals), Hwasa (maknae, vocals). Basically Mamamoo are 4 singers, rappers, songwriters, composers, dancers, choreographers and most notably, crackheads.
With over 400 songs to their name, Mamamoo are the most credited kpop girl group and Moonbyul is the most credited female kpop writer.

Yeah what you said is true. Mamamoo always love singing and performing. They sincerely enjoy music. That’s because they are artists, not idols. They did this because they love music and passionate about it, not because they love being pretty and the celebrity glam life style. Mamamoo is probably the group with most creative freedom in Kpop. They usually write their song, come up with the MV concept, Design their own live stages and outfits.

Yeah, welcome to the Radish Farm. Mamamoo were the 2nd K-pop group I ever heard. All their years together and all their friendship over the years, it just shows. They love performing and they love performing together. The 2 on the right have been friends since middle school, like 15+ years. And Moonbyul (far left on your screen) is the main rapper, but she can sing beautifully as well. The one on the far right with the husky, jazzy voice is Hwasa, and she was actually lead rapper in their early days. But they all sing and harmonize and kill, all the time. Early stuff was straight up jazzy, which I love, but for me it's the music + their sheer wonderful chemistry together.
You never go wrong with these 4 women, as Mamamoo, as soloists, or in sub-units. They have been around a long, long time (debuted a few months before Red Velvet and a few years before Blackpink).

I love your reaction! I especially appreciate how you pause to notice the small moments. I’ve watched Mamamoo’s Killing Voice so many times, and have so many favourite details. I love to see reactors notice the small things.
When you commented on their outfits, I was reminded that one of their stylists once said that Mamamoo are really hard to style for, because each member has their own very distinct preferences so the art is to give them all what they want but still keep things integrated. Which they magically always manage to do.

Many Groups take insperation from Mamamoo. Including BlackPink.
They are the Vocal Queens and well respected.
MAMAMOO joins the ranks of Destiny's Child, The Spice Girls, and TLC as the ONLY girl groups to sell over 70,000 tickets on their FIRST tour in the USA. This makes MAMAMOO the ONLY girl group to achieve this milestone AFTER a 21-year gap. AND the ONLY Non-English speaking girl group to accomplish such a feat.

Like I know they have incredible voices but everyone has a similar reaction, they are all vocal queens and it shows even more as a group. I would like to recommend guides if you're okey with long videos I swear you won't regret it
for the guide there's two top introduction for them one by purple hwake chanel it's a 2 part guide well edited but it's in 2019 quite old but still the best in terms of getting to know their personalities (it's an introduction of the members 2 members per video)
beside that guide I'm not sure which one shoud I recommend for the group there's the guide of 2022 by moo yt (part 2 for the group) (it's more of an discography guide + hardship they went through)
and there's a recent video that I liked a looot called "why mamamoo is the most underrated group" it's like a little documentary quite long but informative
if you're okey with cheking long videos and if you're interested I hope to see those reactions from you in the future because I enjoyed your reaction and energy
    new subscriber over here!

I support what this comment says, if you want to react to all the videos it mentions much better, but if you don't mind making long videos then I advise you to react in a video to the 2 parts of the purple hwake guide and in another video to part 1 of moo yt since it is an update of each member and focuses more on the talent and activities of each one, purple hwake focuses more on personality, and in the same video reactions to the recent video of why mamamoo is the most uderrated kpop group, that video is very well done and is like a small documentary of the group that serves as a guide for it. All the videos mentioned here are highly recommended by the fandom and very entertaining to watch.

Congratulations on having completed Mamamoo 101! Many here at Hogwarts (yes, these women are magical), go next to the Immortal Songs Medley, and get more of a sense of how much more there is. But you don't have to. If you'd like to back up to get a look at the beginning, I recommend Piano Man, their second MV, for which there was not a snippet in the Killing Voice medley. But you really can't go wrong. Enjoy

In order from the rapper on down it's Moonbyul, Solar, Wheein, and Hwasa. All four also have solo careers as well. If you decide to check out their solo songs I recommend: Lunatic for Moonbyul, Honey for Solar, water color for Wheein (or Good Bye if you like ballads), and Maria for Hwasa.

Even though they don't have the expensive propaganda engine behind them like others, they have charisma, talent and voice enough to earn their place amongst the very best.
Since they have such a powerful voices, then be prepared to listen a little of everything.
They are best in live performances, once again, in the early videos you will see the lack of choreographer, stylist, makeup etc, they are a self made group, so much of those things were created by them (even much of the songs)

10:19 when you grab your face, that's a full 4-part harmony LOL
    - counterpoint or "ad libs" when one member is singing different lines over / behind the main rap or vocals
    - harmony when they are singing the same lines in different tones
WheeIn doing her gorgeous little "woo hoos" over Moonbyul's rap line in Decalcomanie is a counterpoint and your face at 10:19 is a reaction to a harmony. What's great about this live version of Decalcomanie is that before that 4-part harmony moment, Solar, WheeIn, and Hwasa trade off 2 and 3-part harmonies like it's no big deal. That is so, so difficult, and they do it effortlessly.

    • @moomoobebe
      @moomoobebe 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Just a question: is it actually 4-part harmony at that moment? In other live stages of Decalcomanie it’s always 3-part harmony with Moonbyul playing up her choreo to match the vibe of the others. I’ve watched this closely many times, and it seems that it’s the same, with Moonbyul quite far from the microphone, and hyping up the moment but not actually singing. My hearing isn’t good enough to be sure just based on the audio (plus they do have some backing vocal layers at various points, so it’s not always clear).

As I've probably stated before... My KPop Group Trifecta is SHInee, Mamamoo, BlackPink.
SOLOISTS... IU, and Kim Se-Jeong(who is an Huge IU fan girl LoL), both of whom are Very good actresses as well. Sejeong is the Reason I got into KPop
The MAMAMOO members are among some of the most-credited idols in K-Pop as of early 2023
    - Moonbyul actually has the most songwriting credits of all 3rd generation female idols at 115(2nd most credited famale artist overall... Yoon Mirae at 139), since she writes her own raps(and more) in almost all of the group’s songs. As well as contributing to the songwriting in many of them as well.
    - Solar has 37 credits to her name. She wrote the lyrics and composition for her solo song, “Spit it Out”. Composer on "Honey".
    - Hwasa has 44 credits. The lyrics to her solo song, “María”, were praised for its inventive and meaningful wordplay. ("Somebody" w/Loco).
    - Wheein has 9 credits (that I can find, maybe more)
    UPDATE Aug 27/23
    - Moonbyul 117 +
    - Solar 41 +
    - Hwasa 46 +
    - Wheein 10+

Best Mamamoo songs: DECALCOMANIE, YES I AM, YOU'RE THE BEST.
Well now that you've reacted to ONE musically versatile, vocally talented RBW girl group that you wish you'd reacted to earlier, I'll once again mention the label's other musically versatile group with great vocals: PURPLE KISS, the most underrated group in Kpop and my #2 group after BLACKPINK.
They have distinctive vocal tones with 3 main vocals, Swan having one of the most unique vocals in Kpop. Official debut Mar 2021. Originally 7 members but JiEun left Nov 2022 for health reasons.
There's a reactor nearly halfway through all 37 of their songs and ranking his faves on first listen and he can't stop using the word UNDERRATED and thanking the Patreon sub who recommended them.
Also a connection to BLACKPINK company: 2 former YG trainees are members, Chaein (all-rounder, writer of great b-sides and my 2nd favorite Kpop vocalist after BLACKPINK Rosé) and main dancer Ireh. Their Japanese rapper Yuki writes most of her own bars becoming 2nd most writing credits of female 4th gen idols. They have a great dance line and choreograph some of their b-sides (Mamamoo have also choreographed songs). If you see PurKi perform live on a radio show they're also goofy and having too much fun joking around. They're great at boygroup dance covers (ONEUS - BLACK MIRROR, EXO - OVERDOSE relay dance) and do lots of vocal covers.
    PURPLE KISS recommendations again:
SWEET JUICE mv with haunted hotel theme,
PONZOÑA their debut with witchy mv visuals,
MY MY a charming Xmas song mv with harmonies,
MEMEM mv their witchy take on 4th gen girl crush EDM,
PRETTY PSYCHO performance video with spooky end sequence,
CAN WE TALK AGAIN pre-debut R&B mv, co-written by Chaein,
AUTOPILOT retro synthwave with goofy self-shot video,
NERDY a fun crazy mv with strings,
OH MY GOSH 날좀봐 written by Chaein - live video for TongTongCulture YT channel,
SUMMER RAIN ballad vocals - another live video for TongTongCulture,
MY HEART SKIP A BEAT rockin' predebut mv while Swan was on health break,
ZOMBIE retro discopop comedic horror mv, but also has a darker themed Halloween EDM remix performance video that's more different from the original than Ddu-du Ddu-du Remix.
They arguably have a no-skip discography with many genres (37 songs?).
I will promote them til the day I die because they deserve to be one of the biggest 4th gen groups. Their big sisters Mamamoo took a few years to get noticed in Korea, so...
Swan sang covers on Beginagain like Rosé did on seaside show.
There's lots of Kpop when you need a pick me up like FROMIS_9 summer bops (WE GO, FEEL GOOD, DM, etc.), but for English classics underrated British band ELO gave us MR. BLUE SKY
    th-cam.com/video/aQUlA8Hcv4s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Kc7p-FnBFYee2zXm
Jeff Lynne is an underrated musical genius.
ELO is one of the UK's best, along with The Beatles, Depeche Mode and New Order.
"When you get so down that you can't get up" there's always HOLD ON TIGHT to your dreams.
Other greats: TWILIGHT, LIVIN' THING, DON'T BRING ME DOWN, TURN TO STONE, EVIL WOMAN, SWEET TALKIN' WOMAN, SHINE A LITTLE LOVE, STRANGE MAGIC, LAST TRAIN TO LONDON, and theme to the silly Olivia Newton John movie XANADU.

I discovered kpop late 2019 and since then only one female group has captured my attention, and that group is Mamamoo. Moonbyul the talented rapper (and vocalist) as well asal most credit female in kpop. What I love about her is that, to me, it does not look like she is playing a role. Who you see on stage is who you see off stage. Solar, my god how can someone so tiny have such a huge voice? Wheein, HONEY VOCALS!! Can we please get a song with one of the main EXO vocalists? Finally, but not least, Hwasa. Sultry, jazzy vocals and fierce stage presence ywt can still be sillly and goody (all 4 can) Best female kpop group for me hands down. So happy I got to see them in concert this past May.
New to your channel but, if you haven't, please check out EXO. Their Killing Voice is just as good. Mamamoo and EXO are all about vocals. They are known as vocal Kings and Queens.

They are the best girls and the most wonderful voices found in K-Pop. They have an unbelievable bouquet, and they are voices that did not find their luck in the world, but they are wonderful girls and they have tremendous vocal ability. They are characterized by a salad characterized by a voice. A warm, strong, calm, beautiful pagan, and her voice is very wonderful.🙏🙏❤❤

I'd say all 4 can do both rap and sing but at different level:
    - 1 rapper who can sing (Moonbyul, the left one). She even won a contest where female rappers are challenged to sing (you know... the stereotype of rapper can't sing). They even had to made ("force") Moonbyul to lose in certain round, because she kept winning every rounds to the point everyone's already knew who's gonna be the winner, which, not fun since there won't be any suspense lol
    - 3 singer who can rap (Solar, Wheein, Hwasa), but not as strong as Moonbyul. They rap in their older works, such as "Sleep In The Car" (it's a joking song where they complaint they have to work until 3 am in the morning and sleep in the car with makeup on, ruining their skin) and "Taller Than You" (another joking song where they teased Wheein as the shortest member, when actually there's only about 1 cm difference among them)
But all of them can harmonize and even made up some random song right on the spot.

I agree with you on harmonising and layering. Harmony to me is where the same lyrics are being sung, but different notes are used. If there are two melodys being sung, I think of one of them being the counter melody. Now maybe there is an argument to be made that when you are mixing two voices together, it is harmonising, but I don’t get it.

    • @hq3727
      @hq3727 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree with you. His initial opinion of harmony and layering should be correct (as far as I know?), but I do feel that many (if not a majority) of kpoppies thought that harmony just meant different people singing together, which is incorrect.
The definition of harmony is "two or more complementary notes played or sung at the same time" (i.e. mostly different notes to the melody, but sung at the same time)
"What is harmony for singing voice?
In a simple two-part harmony, the first person sings the melody and the second sings above or below that melody within the chord structure. In rock or pop music, a backup singer will harmonize with the lead singer by adjusting the pitch of her note based on the lead singer's pitch so that they are in tune."

    • @hq3727
      @hq3727 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

And vocal layering is "It involves taking multiple vocal recordings (or “takes”) and placing them in your mix to add depth, dimension, and character. Each vocal layer typically features the same singer or singers performing the same or different parts, which are then mixed together to create a cohesive and captivating sound."
Which, by these definition, his initial opinion was right. What Wheein (3rd from the left/2nd from the right) did was layering adlibs to Moonbyul's raps (and their voices sounds really good together because they sounded really alike, just at a different pitch. i.e. if you pitch Wheein's parts lower, it would sound like Moonbyul's)

react to the girls' introduction, there are two parts. This way you will get to know them better (they are perfect) all 4 of them sing, Moonstar (rapper) also sings.

So good you found Mamamoo, in my opinion the best but way underrated female KPop group, well I guess because with their music and style, they appeal to a more mature audience. Great solo voices and stunning harmonies. Btw. harmonizing is when they sing the same in different tones, layering may be a different line and /or different melody they sing on top of each other, in harmony. They master both. The only "negative" thing I can say is that Moonbyul (the Rapper) is not more integrated in the melodic parts and harmonies of the songs. Sometimes she looks like lost, waiting for her Rap-Part, while the other three are doing their thing; and then take over again. OK she's the Rapper, but actually she has a great voice and is an excellent singer. To bad she can not bring this in within the group.
I have found Mamamoo through a cover of their song Where Are We Now by 4th Impact, another 4-Part female group from the Philippines. IF there is any group who can match Mamamoo in terms of vocals, range, harmonies, layering, raping and stage presence, then it's 4th Impact. In some parts they may even be superior. A group you should definitely check out too. They have tons of great covers such as Leave The Door Open, Bridge Over Troubled Water, or I Believe I Can Fly, but why not start with their newest original All At Once? No video, only audio, though.

Whenever I watch/listen to Moonbyul really shining as a vocalist, part of me wants to point to the screen and tell the whole world, “and that, folks, is Mamamoo’s *rapper*” because I’m so proud of these women and their vocal abilities.
But part of me doesn’t want to do that, because there’s a sad side to it. Moonbyul trained right from the start to be a vocalist. Her vocal coach actually expected her to debut as a *main* vocal in whichever group she ended up in. What actually happened was that she landed up with Solar, Wheein and Hwasa, and the company pushed her into being the rapper with no prior training. (The co-CEO of RBW, Kim Do-Hoon, maintains to this day that it was Moonbyul’s free choice, but no one believes it.) Solar trained her up to be a rapper, and Moonbyul took it from there and debuted in that capacity. Very sadly, her vocal confidence crashed for several years. It wasn’t until the 4 Seasons 4 Colors albums of 2018-2019 that she started singing more regularly on Mamamoo tracks.
There’s even a reality show re-enactment of the moment where Moonbyul was pushed into that choice. It’s played partly for comedy but the real sadness comes through.
That said, there have been some major upsides. The first is that she became an excellent rapper, powerful and multidimensional, with her vocal training giving her an extra edge. She can spit bars with attitude and aggression, yes, but her artistry encompasses so much more than that. I melt whenever she raps to a ballad.
The other upside is that the company gave her the chance to write her own raps, and she was so good at it that she ended up writing the vast majority of them, and as a result is now the highest-credited female idol in the Korean music industry. She can even write raps for songs that never had them, and make them fit beautifully while shining new light on the song. The most striking example is the rap that she wrote for “Delilah” - yes, that “Delilah”, the Tom Jones song - where she introduces haunting new imagery that transforms the song into something uniquely Mamamoo. And this she did for the sake of one single performance on the TV show Immortal Songs 2, never to be performed or recorded again.
(It would be awesome if you could react to their “Delilah”, but you have to be careful to obscure the video to avoid copyright strikes.)

You have discovered two great groups, Blackpink and Mamamoo. Two others, I think you will find to your liking, Kard which is the only coed group in Kpop and Jessi, the bad girl of Kpop. You’re not completely wrong in calling it layering. And a lot of people aren’t correct when they call things harmonizing. Harmony is when they sing the same words at the same time, but in different keys. Layering is when they sing/rap different words at the same time, and it could be the same or different keys. Harmonizing is far more difficult than many people realize, cause it’s not just about hitting the right notes. You have to pick a lead vocal to carry the line, and everyone harmonizing with them has to learn to match their cadence and mimic their sounds. If you pronounce your vowels differently then the whole thing falls apart. It takes a lot of practice to be able to sync that well, and it’s a whole other talent to switch between being the main vocal and the back up vocal in a harmony; which is something they do flawlessly and I’m sure you saw in the Immortal Songs Medley.
