@@puckmin3487 well it depends how you interpret the lore. There is a chance the the hollow knight had bonded with the pale knight and that is why the egg eventually started to leak infection. If that is the correct reason then there is evidence for and against the player character actually being able to possibly contain the infection indefinitely.

@@perkuu6937 You can use a downslash of the nail to pogo off a variety of things, including the explosive projectile and even the explosion itself. The latter was eventually patched out, but most speedrun categories use v1.2.2.1 where it's still possible.

I beat hollow knight for the first time a few days ago. It took me 72 hours.
Same boat here. Took right around that long, although on my second playthrough I'm far more competent with the controls. Early bosses are taking only one or two attempts.

Around 13:00 he uses his own dead ghost to get to a higher area. That's incredible

"Fun" (or rather, sad) fact: saving that grub doesn't save nor cost any time on the run and most runners save it. Fireb0rn is evil incarnate tho, to the point he purposely stopped and stared at it during an event before proceeding to ignore it

If you get a bit more familiar with the game and map you will understand what you need or where you need to pass. The rest is up to you exploring and not giving up (some places seem as if you can't pass but that deceives)
Yeah, I don't recommend looking at this to know where to go. There are a lot of sequence breaks and some of the sequence breaks are VERY precise. I would just look up a normal guide or keep exploring. Hollow knight is a wonderful game with a lot of great surprises :)

Yeah, any% and low% runs of Hollow Knight tend to be pretty heartless. Although, the world record run in the Low% category (by homothety) actually does save the grub in the Beast's Den even though doing so is a (very small) time loss... I guess he just couldn't bear walking right past it ❤

If you combine the fact the kids are audibly fine with the description of Grubberfly's Elegy ("Contains the gratitude of grubs who will move to the next stage of their lives.") and the name of the achievement ("Metamorphosis"), it seems pretty clear that in fact the grubs are not consumed by the father. It's probably the other way around: they will consume the father as they are transforming into the grubberflies that will eventually emerge from his corpse.

This is what would happen if the knight wasn't controlled by a player. That is the whole purpose he was created. No side tracking, Very efficient and capable bug. Also the way he straight up slauthers Watcher knights is way too satisfying.
Don’t forget that the knight is not as knowledgeable as a speedrunner.
The speedrunner already knows the very quick and efficient methods in finishing the game, the knight doesn’t.

@@thedullestapple8686 It's a speedrunning rule to stop time during transitioning, most likely because one can have a faster or slower transition then the other and it would be unfair.

19:00 I went into that fight with Joni's Blessing, LifeBlood, DashMaster, 2nd nail upgrade, and 3 soul vessels, and it took me 4 hours and about 60 tries. Sigh...
At least in Any% (NMG) you have Shaman's Stone. Those masochists doing Low% (NMG) have to do the fight without any charms... and dashless (since you never fight Hornet in Low% hence never acquire dash).
Quick Slash and Mark if Pride are a dream combo for that fight if anyone needs tips. I couldn't best them without those two. I also recommend coiled nail + and unbreakable/fragile strength
Shade cloak and Shadow dash make them much easier, although those are not for speed runs you can get them in a normal run or steel soul run. I find they help more than anything else for me.
When I first played the game that was like the hardest boss
Well it took me 2 or 3 tries for this one but it certainly took me 20~30 tries against Hornet 2nd encounter. Spent like 1 or 2 hours at that

@@Firefly256 Being able to escape from False Knight after the first stagger is intentional, so you can get the fireball spell and start exploring Greenpath and beyond if you want. It's not very helpful though: the fireball spell won't help you much with False Knight since you can't get much soul during that fight, the next boss isn't going to be any easier, and you need the City Crest obtained by defeating False Knight to progress later in the game (unless you take an unusual route around that obstacle).
What when I first encountered false knight I fought for my life lmao but I did win

Considering a typical hk playthrough is 50-60 hours long, he has completed the game roughly 100 times faster than the average person.

I just finished Steel Soul run today at 104% in 15hrs. I didn't do any skip and get to areas with the intended abilities/items, and I don't rush, just playing casually.
First playthrough will always be long because you didn't know what to do.
Maybe another reason why I'm also fast was because I use fragile greed on first half of the game and deposit 4500 geo at the scam bank (got 1.5x from the scammer back), so I never have to farm at all

At least he could see. There are also runs (e.g. the WR low% run by homothety) that take a route that traverses deepnest from fungal wastes to distant village early in the run, prior to obtaining the lumafly lantern. That means near zero visibility in the left side of deepnest.

In this case using they would create an ambiguous sentance. "They kill bosses like they're nothing." They're could either refer to the subject, "they", or the object, "bosses". It would almost certainly be the later based on context, but why not sidestep the issue entirely?
I didn't have such abilities from the start. But maybe he finished it already, got skills and then finished it again.

Same i was doing i speedrun and died to them three times i found if you go above them you can dash and get knock back behind them but you can not do that to the one that protect herra then I remember i grab dream shield for no because i thought it would help i was right so i went to the and get rid of dash master and long nail which were the only charms i used and put on Dreamshield and killed it that was the best moment that happen to me in hollowknight even better than beat beating grey prince zote 10 the first try
I did them by charging the standart nail art, wait for them to open, release, back dash, repeat till dead ( also spells if I have soul )

He did Focused to heal, check the Hollow Knight final boss...... He healed once.
And if we're being technical he focused 5 times (3 for the beings 1 for the hollow knight and 1 focus in the battle hollow knight)

Elderbug isn't sad, he's worried. This random stranger with an emotionless 1000 yard stare enters his village, speaks to nobody, and heads toward the danger. For all Elderbug knows, he could be heading to his death and Elderbug just wanted to warn the strange traveler.
And then he comes back from the old stagway and buys a lamp in less than a minute

Very fast knight at incredibly hihg speed
Took me hours to figure out I could get a nap, took me another to figure out what I was even doing, and after another hour I faught the false knight and died many times, it wasn’t for another 2 hours I got vengeful spirit- and you did it in 4 minutes.

If there was still even the slightest doubt in your mind that the watcher knights weren’t the hardest boss in the base game, this dude got hit 4 times.

Minor glitch exploited.
For some reason, if you stand at that place the fireball hitbox hovers over the Baldur and kills it
Note that this doesn't work anymore on current patch.
Hollow Knight speedruns generally use v1.2.2.1, unless the category involves Godhome (which use v1.4.3.2) and categories that allow exploitation of major glitches (where people often use older versions with more glitches to exploit)
I decided to check out an actual speed run because MythyMoo accidentally did some speed run stuff on his 'blind' (1st) play through without meaning too. (Ex: He found the city of tears first by entering Deep Nest into the King's Station and faced the Mantis Lords).
This play through is still crazy fast in comparison though. Dang. I didn't even know you could skip the False Knight. Amazing.
thats how i got to city of tears in the first place too. i refused to buy lumafly lantern and did the whole dark area of deepnest without it and eventually got the tram pass
@@RethoricalWanker Out of curiosity, did you not find the main entrance to City of Tears from Fungal Wastes (even though there are signs pointing to it all over the place) or did you bail out on the False Knight and as a result didn't have the City Crest needed to enter?

The game saves after you beat a dreamer. Had he quit, he would've just woken up at the dreamer's place.
The thing with deflecting the falling stalactite was impressive.
