You fellas in the UK sure build houses stronger than the USA houses. Your foundations are thicker, the walls are better insulated, and steel beams in a house? Unheard of here
Thanks from England! When I was researching drywall coverings it turns out that as we skim our boards here, they (if properly skimmed) are all Level 5 finish by default, even in the 1m3 tiny under stairs cupboards haha!
🤲 Very useful for those who are keen on studying house renovation and building projects i got to say. Good to reflect back on your work and inspire others. Very well thought of the video footage👍👍 BLOCK BLACK block, block block block, fluck fluck fluck then you chop chop chop and oh you already know its about that time to erupt. ✌ Thanks for sharing, Skill Builder UK team
Robin..nice video indeed..very communicative. By the way, I'm from Indonesia a tropical country, which of course having different construction details. One interested thing for me is the use of perforated brick. What is the function? Was it for air circulation ? Thanks for your answer.
Hi Roger, just wanted to get some advise regarding a new flat roof. I am currently planning to remove and replace an existing flat roof, with new joists etc. I am planning to add balconies / railings as i intend to use it as a roof terrace balcony from the first floor bedroom (hence the changing of joists). Can you advise or recommend where i can buy metal railings for the balcony? also what preparations would you advise for preparing for fitting the railings as currently we have installed the joists and yet to add the ply and weather coating. Thanks
Hi Robin great videos and content. Would you be able to advise on costing? I live in Essex and I’ve been quoted between £100-£120k for a single storey rear and side extension... composing basically 4m out at rear which be new lounge and connecting to the side which will be a garage , utility, office and WC I’m really baffled as to why it costs so much any advice ...?
That sounds about right. I know a bricklayer who built his own similar to that, so all his labour was free , and it still cost £70,000. A skip is well over £200 now so even getting the groundworks done can be £10,000. Have a shop around but if someone comes in too cheap you need to know why.
Skill Builder I was thinking back to 2009/ 10 era whereby I got my 1930s semi fully modernised to the tune of about £110k... which at the time was a rear extension out by 3m a side alley into extension with WC , porch and a dormer loft conversion with en-suite and whole house internally replastered and modernised main bath room with mega-flo new driveway with lighting and new garden with decking, fences (both our side and adjoining neighbours)...my how times have changed... thanks for getting back to me so quickly .... really appreciate it.. I thought I was going mad 👍
I thought some builders save money on ground works by leaving the muck on the road on boards for a grab truck to pick up... not sure how many pickups would need to be done or cost of each grab pick up though...
@@optimus75 Grab lorries are cheaper but there are all kinds of restrictions. It depends on where you live and what the neighbours are like. A grab lorry often blocks the road while it fills up.
You are dead right mate and it is the only thing I picked up on with the work they did. Mark, the brickie, said I am fussing over nothing but I took the block out and put a full one in just to be sure. More of that later.

Never seen or used these lintels.i used c section lintels on 100 mill block work internal walls. problem with big long catnic lintels is I never ever seen one that was straight and I put in hundreds always bent or damaged they get moved around in bundles in the builders merchants and dropped of lorries and fork lifts.who commented about putting splits under lintels if your a proper bricklayer and keep your internal blockwork level to gauge with the face brick work it don't never happen.

Skill Builder Thanks again Robin, will have to investigate with the builder 👍
Is this your own place?
No
is it alrighy to put the lintels on half blocks,,1.35 mins on the vid,,,cheers
No it isn't. That was my only gripe with the bricklayer.
Is that ABS?
❤
Nhbc don’t like you doing cuts under lintels now has to be a full block
