    Can't watch without cryin a lil... Sac Town born n' raised. We were cheated out of a championship, lied to by the Maloofs, and almost lost our one and only beloved team. We now have a stadium- in the heart of downtown Sacramento!!! No more demarcus cousins, a great core of young ballers, Divac is our G.M., and hopefully within the next couple years we will have the #1 pick in the draft... GO KINGS!!!!!!!! fan4life!

      The Kings were very competitive last year. It's going to be difficult for the next few years, with the West so stacked, but I can see the Kings becoming a force to be reckoned with by 2025 at the latest.
      Hang in there, Sac. You're in the same situation as the Bucks were 2-3 years ago in terms of competitiveness.

      Maybe if you had put up the same fight as sacramento, made sure everyone was on board from the start, politicians and the community, then maybe Seattle would still have the sonics. Too little too late. You let journalists and politicians bitch about how sports stadiums are eating too much of your tax money and sonics had little impact on the local economy, and the community had no resounding voice to counter whats been said, and now youre gonna cry about how it was all taken from right under your noses.

      +SF Giants dynasty ..How dumb you have to be to take the word "Cry" literally? Should I have used the word "Complain?" Would that, in a huge way, made a world of difference? What are you 10? And oh by the way, dont tell me no grown ass man in Seattle didnt cry when sonics left for OKC. When teams move, usually its never about the money. That comes close second. Usually its the lack of support from the city. With the case of Seattle, the key arena is losing money as it is because of the limited amount of seats, and the sonics arent really putting asses on 90% of the seats they did have. This isnt news really, you knew this early to mid 2000 but only when Schultz sold to Bennett thats when the people fully realized the drastic need for a new arena. By then, the politicians, who arent exactly sports fans, were put on the spot to make a decision about putting money in a new arena. What do you think they'd say? In Sacramento, EVERYONE, even those who arent Kings fans, know the value of the team. Even politicians knew their career rest on the kings staying in SAC. Kids would wash cars for the kings and the media showed it on TV. Unlike in seattle where media would rather show politicians mouth off about having to spend on an arena. Its not really about the money. Seattle has millionaires who just needed a slight nudge to put money in if the community and their elected officials were all on board. Problem is the full blown support only came when Bennett already owned the team and my god, he was all about making the sonics a more sorry-ass bunch to get the city to let go.
      Wasnt about the money, it will come if the ALL OUT support for the team is there. Even from those who arent sonics fan. Too many people in power talked about how the sonics arent a priority in seattle, to the dismay of the NBA. that didnt happen in Sacramento. You do that in Sacramento, talk about how the kings arent a priority, and youre gonna get a mob in front of your house. Thats the difference. I dont mean to disrespect those who stood for the sonics but Fans alone cant save the team. It has to be the community demanding what they wanted and then the politicians and the financiers would make something happen. Thats what I'm saying.

      Just wait until you get to a Finals. If you watched the Bucks in the Finals back in 21, and how packed the "Deer District" was, it was incredible to experience, and local businesses benefited too. I heard the local businesses around Fiserv Forum reported an additional profit of $70-90 million during that Finals run. It would be awesome to see Sac experience the same thing.

    Pretty great story about the Kings staying in Sacramento. Kind of similar to how Milwaukee and Wisconsin rallied to keep the Bucks, though not as dramatic as this. We did rally here in Milwaukee, though. Just like Sac fans did "Here We Stay" and "Here We Build", Bucks fans had a similar rallying cry, called "Build The Future", based on the Bucks slogan "Own The Future".
    Now, Sacramento has a new arena to keep the Kings, and Milwaukee is building their new arena right now for the Bucks. And let me say, it looks gorgeous so far.

      Also, a side note, the city of Milwaukee is saying the Bucks' championship run and the viewing parties in the Deer District brought in at least $24 million of extra revenue to the city. At least part of our investment in building Fiserv Forum has been paid off thanks to this.

      2nd year in a row that the better team got hosed in the conference finals. The Bucks in 2001 and the Kings in 2002.

      +Raed Rahman Yet, the Kings still named a street in David J. Stern's honor leading up to the Golden 1 Center.
      The Kings fans who still have a beef with the 2002 WCF series need to let it go.

      +Raed Rahman Should've been 2002 NBA Champions, but still blew it and now, the Sacramento Kings had to mumble and suffer even more when their NorCal neighbor, the Golden State Warriors, beat them to the punch for NBA titles in 2015 and 2017.

      I grew up a Kings season ticket holder, and yes, Game 6 was a joke. HOWEVER, in full disclosure, we choked away Game 4, but letting the Lakers come back and win that game when we were up 17 at the half. And then we missed 14 FT's in Game 7. So, the NBA wasn't the ONLY culprit in what happened in 2002. The Kings were partially to blame. Game 6 should have never happened. Bibby's jumper to win Game 5 should have won the series.

    Great job, fantastic movie, really enlightening the situation you're faced with. Good luck from a Sonics fan who would love a team back in Seattle, but doesn't want to see another fanbase hurt like us. Keep it up!

      yeah it was messed up, even the exchange of emails was sort of gay. But the thing about seattle was the people and politicians got involved too late to make a difference. A lot has been written about the sonics and sports stadiums in seattle eating away at tax payers money and no one really stood up, no mob formed in defense of the sonics and key arena, no politicians saying "we want our sonics" until it was already too late. Maybe those people in Seattle who were against the arena deserve part of the blame too. The fans stood on the shoulders of Schultz and youre gonna blame the Jew for selling out? helloooooooo...

    • @dannyocean7155
      @dannyocean7155 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think its fair to say Sacramento put up a bigger fight to keep the kings in sacramento than Seattle to keep the sonics. It was a case of too little too late

    • @Tyrunner0097
      @Tyrunner0097 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would say Seattle got complacent, since they had seen something happen to save the Mariners and the Seahawks at the last minute, and I think they thought, right until the end, something would happen to save the Sonics as well, and they just stayed complacent.

    thank the maloofs from what i heard they mess hansen up. nba warned hansen/ballmer. that there relationship w/ the maloofs was going to hurt them significantly. they didn't realized until it was too late. it was more than money and that backup offer hurt them. nba owners told hansen/ballmer that the maloofs are not good partners. maloofs made spectacles that it hurt hansen/ballmer and made the sac group look better. from what i heard.

    There are two reasons: First, the room we shot the interview was horribly dull and we needed to put something on the wall. Second, as painful as that picture is, it's part of Kings history. It's the specter that looms over us kings fans ;)

    Touché! Hard to argue with that logic. Although, if I'm going to eliminate one horribly painful picture from Kings lore, I think I would eliminate the one of Gavin and Joe Maloof standing center court with Mayor Kevin Johnson with their arms raised in the air, celebrating the "deal" that kept the Kings in Sacramento with a new arena. That has now become the most gut wrenching, disingenuous moment in local history.

    Fark!!! Clay Bennett who sold out the Sonics was a NBA official who would assess the Kings relocation to Anaheim after he lied to the Seattle public and refuted any claims to relocate the Sonics to Oklahoma City, seriously? If I was a die hard Kings fan, I reckon I would have been shitting myself that the the team was leaving.
