    Good day dear ❤ a general nurse is a professional nurse. The R171 program is a registered general nurse program. The general nurse will not be under supervision but supervise the other health care members. But you only get a maroon general nurse epaulets without the other 3 bars. You can go and study further for each bar.

    Very informative video I honestly didn't know nurses have to study so much its always doctors that get recognition but nurses do a lot I have even more respect now.if nurses have thier masters and decide they want to be a doctor can they just add on to that or will they have to start from scratch?

      @silibazisomupereki  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you so much. Definitely one of my missions to put more light on how amazing nurses are and how we also have to work hard. If you want to be a doctor, they are universities (e.g. Wits) that provide a "bridging course" known as GEMP where you can enter 3rd year medicine instead of starting from scratch. But it's highly competitive though

    Some of the information is a bit misleading especially when you say a staff nurse is a general nurse which isnt the case and mind you we don't know what Epps the new 3 year diploma holders will get but it may not be the white Epps as you say, it could be the maroon Epps with just the general nursing badge as that's what they essentially are coz they studied general nursing only and they are in between a staff nurse and RN hence they're called Registered Staff nurses. They also have a wider scope of practice. I was honestly a bit confused.

    • @silibazisomupereki
      @silibazisomupereki  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do apologize for the confusion. Staff nurses study for 3 years and wear white epaulets.
      The new nursing diploma at a college is also 3 years but it is still unclear what epaulets they will have. They will be called General nurses

      Hie there. The most important subject would be biology/life sciences. You can do either Maths Lit or Pure Maths (unis accept both). Physics isn't necessary but it will help you with first year nursing physics and chemistry (however you will still be able to pass it even if you don't do physics in high school. It will just require a little bit more effort).

      A General Nurse and a Registered Nurse is the same thing. Think of it as Registered General Nurse. After doing the 3 year diploma you can do 1 year PostGrad Midwifery and then you can study your speciality after that. The R171 and R174 are really not different.

  • @zolexDackery
    @zolexDackery 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    These ranks are a problem. The nurses first of all and most importantly thinking that they're just better humans than the patients.
    Secondly some of the higher ranking ones, think they're better than the doctors. This thinking of being better gets put into practice by the nurses not doing their jobs properly. And often intervening in doctors recommendations or orders.
    We have to acknowledge that this is a problem.
    People are dying because other clueless people get given a badge.

    • @silibazisomupereki
      @silibazisomupereki  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I partly agree and disagree with you
      I disagree with you because our ranks help us to function within our scope of practise. An auxiliary nurse can’t have the same authority and responsibilities as a registered nurse because our scopes differ. In addition, nurses are allowed to question doctors decision. They don’t act like doctors but you can advocate for your patients needs because nurses spend the most time with patients than doctors. Obviously this comes with the caviar that only few nurses (who are both knowledgable and experienced) can do this safely
      Agree: yes the ranks do make some nurses big headed and think they are better than others etc
      Moral of the story: each nurse needs to work within their own scope of practice
