      That’d be amazing, and he may be all about it, but paying Adam any less than the $5,000 price for his time would be unfair.

    I think Alex has the most grounded point of view on AV's than any other currently accessible public figure. He got so many valid points about what works, what doesn't, and problems that still exist and are likely not to be solved. The podcasts with his are just fascinating.

    Love when Alex is on and love that He is a voice of reason in the AV industry. I will argue his prediction that an EV will take the cannonball record though. In a contest of speed, distance, and minimum stop time I don’t see how and EV would do better than a fast & efficient gas car. I bet a Chevy SS could win: fast, invisible, and LS engines are remarkably efficient

    Great podcast. I don't always have the time to listen but always enjoy Alex Roy. I met him years ago and bought his book. My only experience with AV is a BMW 5 series. I likened it to a 15 year old driver. OK in normal situations but inexperienced and poor in any non standard conditions. Plus it reacted late when someone jumped into your lane. I only used it for the 10 seconds needed to blow my nose, reach for something, etc. AV won't be truly safe and universal until it can deal with construction zones (mix lane markings), heavy rain, fog and snow, tight blind curves, etc. I also wonder about liability when inevitable accidents occur. One question, will they be passive or aggressive drivers?? Passive meaning to slow down and always maintain gaps, or aggressive meaning to jump into those gaps just before an exit. Especially in the east there are too many locations where merging traffic and exiting traffic all have to trade places in a few hundred feet.

  • @claudemartin7785
    @claudemartin7785 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man, AV are all tested in "no weather" Pittsburgh as some. But nothing compared to canada. I'm in Quebec from November to April you never know when the road will become the same color as the rest of everything. And all the sensors will be behind snow and slush. It will never happen.
    Our buses, work and school day rarely closes do to a storm even if goes on for days or its 6 feet of snow we do not care and are well equipped. (2008 quebec city snow banks in front of houses had the height and angles of the roofs... TH-cam it )

      Lived in Pittsburgh 30 years. I sure the hell shoveled snow every single winter. Also the topography is one of the most unique in the world. A mass of hills, bridges, and tunnels. It's the perfect place to test.

    • @claudemartin7785
      @claudemartin7785 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@afhyoutube 500inches of snow ? You get a xouple nice storms (im in Philly weekly) but it melts, our snow can stay on the road for weeks. If they did it in Colorado all year round. (Never been) maybe then.
      Also Pittsburgh is a great place for GPS and all that because of the bridges. Holy crap it can be confusing when you don't know where you are going. The 3Dness of it 🥵.
