    I cried in cinemas when the humans were hunting down the Tulkun spirit sister and the calf. It’s just so slow and painful to watch that overtime it makes you realise what we are doing to Earth right now. For Neteyam’s death too, just hearing Neytiri mourn over the loss of his oldest son really puts the perspective of a strong parent

    • @cirrusB612
      @cirrusB612 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree! When I saw it in theatres, it was like I was watching something horrifying but couldn’t look away. I blinked and realized I had tears in my eyes. Like, the Tulkuns were more intelligent than the Na’avi, and they were pacifists, and they didn’t deserve any of that just for the body to be left there.
      As for Neteyam’s death, it was sad, but based on the marketing for the movie, I guessed that he was going to die, and I was right. So it was sad, but it wasn’t unexpected.

    as we were leaving the theater, my dad said to me "it was stupid of spider to save the Colonel, but I can't fault him for it because it's what a lot of super hero's would do." and it was a very interesting point.

      I know a lot of people hate Spider for it, but I agree. He just wanted to do the right thing. He was raised among the Na'vi and was much closer to their culture than any other human after war. The only "right thing" must've meant to him to save Quarrich's life, because he wanted to be a better person than him. He just has a very good heart.

    • @hunnychile513
      @hunnychile513 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Exactly! And remember that everyone and everything she's lost even from the first film, was due to humans and Quaritchs' actions took at least 3 people/creatures that she cared about away from her. So her disdain for him runs deep. She lost her sister before Jake arrived, after that her father is killed during the destruction of hometree, then her ikran is shot down, and the panther like animal although she wasn't as emotionally bonded. But they destroyed a lot of the forest, killing animals and tearing down some of their sacred trees. So losing their son just pushed her over the edge. But at least she was willing to accept Spider after all that in the end.

    I love what they did with Quaritch in this movie. He has the human Quaritch’s memories but he is very much his own person. He shows more sympathy towards Spider than the human Quaritch ever would. James Cameron said in an interview that Quaritch crushed ”his” human skull as he has an identity crisis. He is coded to act certain way but doesn’t want to be what his memories make of him. I’m so excited to see his character development in the future movies. Also it’s clear the months Quaritch spent with Spider he grew to truly be fond of him and i can’t wait to see how their relationship goes in the future!

    I love that the line 'a son for a son', said by two different characters about the same person had two entirely different meanings. A son for a son for neytiri, I kill spider, your son, to avenge neteyam, my son.
    A son for a son for Jake, in losing one son, neteyam, I've gained another, in spider
    All I know is if we get a spider betrayal story its gonna break my heart

    • @CeltycSparrow
      @CeltycSparrow ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I DO NOT believe Spider would ever betray Jake's family. Especially not Kiri or Lo'ak. If he was going to betray them, he could have done it already, when he was being tortured by the machine to divulge where they were....or any of the moments when he was talking to Quaritch. He remained loyal to Jake.

    One tiny but (to me) funny detail I noticed: When Spider is amused by his dad aiming the tranquilizer gun at the ikran, if you look closely, when Quaritch looks at him, it’s with honest and sincere confusion. His face is literally „W-what are you laughing at?“
    And a heartwarming detail (to me at least): When they’re flying and Spider teaches Quaritch to pronounce the language correctly, it is the first time we have ever seen that man be at ease.
    In the first movie, his character was all intense and ruthless, but in the second movie, we witnessed him growing to care about another person, even growing to be somewhat of a father. This time, his ruthlessness and aggression doesn’t feel intense anymore, but rather sad, like he is on this path of vengeance, but it is draining him. Quaritch threatening Jake’s whole family and thereby starting the final confrontation was him lashing out, because he couldn’t understand why he saved Spider, was confused by his own actions and it deeply frustrated him. His personal vendetta had brought him nowhere so far and now that he was face to face with Jake, the closest he has ever come to vengeance, it was his own actions that screwed it all up, actions he didn’t even understand. This personal vendetta is draining him and he wants it to be over, so he begins provoking the fight, saying what he knows will hit Jake the hardest, promising him the death of his entire family, should he avoid him now. And when Spider saved him, he was clearly overwhelmed. He had just lost a fight with Jake, again, his vendetta would have to continue and it was Spider that saved him. Whatever was going on inside his head, the only thing he wanted, besides retreating to safety, was to take Spider with him. But he didn’t take him this time around, no, he wanted the kid to come by his own free will. And he called Spider „son“.
    Spider‘s rejection will weigh heavy upon him, because the only person he ever cared about left him for the man his old self tells him is his mortal enemy. Quaritch obviously struggles with his identity, with who he is. He may have Colonel Miles Quaritch‘s memories, but he hasn’t really experienced them, therefore his brain does not have emotions connected to those moments of his live. Everything he knows still is also what his human self knew, so he still is Miles Quaritch, but he is a different being now, thinking about his past choices and actions differently than The old Quaritch would’ve. I believe his character is open to tremendous change, because his future choices are unpredictable right now.

    I don't think Kiri had a father at all, but my theory may prove something different. Grace didn't seem like the type to worry about relationships, her only relationship she had was with her studies and she loved that more than anything. When they tried putting Grace in the Avatar body permanently it didn't work, but what if it did? Before Grace died she said she sees Eywa and that she was real. Kiri is special, she can do things that others can't and the things they do she can learn faster. My guess is that she is not Grace, but the reincarnation of Grace and the great mother Eywa. On this moon all life is connected, borrowed energy. Kiri like Sully is the chosen one. But that's just my guess, would be cool if what I was thinking is cannon to the the story

    I love this film, probably more than the first, and as a fan of the OG it was well worth the 13 year wait. My favorite characters are Quaritch, Kiri, Spider, and Tuk. Most interested in seeing how Quaritch, Spider, and Kiri's character development/fates will evolve! It may be a hot take, but I cheered when Spider saved Quaritch. I didn't want him to just die...AGAIN...and then just be brought back in another Recombinant body...AGAIN, because that would be boring. I want villains to live to grow, learn (or choose not to!), and face consequences.

    Growing with with the MCU, I think we are so used to seeing characters with nothing to lose take risks (and usually play off the seriousness of the situation with quips and jokes) that we are unfamiliar with characters that have everything to lose and barely take risks.
    It’s not mentioned in the movie, but it’s canon that Jake feels guilty for leading so many Na’vi to their deaths in the first movie. He’s a human turned avatar Na’vi. What right does he have to lead them into battle and become their chieftain? He’s taken on the responsibility of keeping his “inherited” tribe safe. It’s a lot more personal now that he has kids. The stakes just went up. He doesn’t want to lead his own kids into battle and to their potential death. Yeah, he wants them to defend themselves, but you’re usually taught to fight as a last resort; not to seek out and intentionally put yourself in danger. Lion King says it best: “Being brave doesn’t mean you go looking for trouble. Be brave when you have to be.”
    Jake let Lo’ak and Neteyam, who are 14 and 15, accompany him on that train raid in the beginning to be spotters, nothing more. But Lo’ak wanted to do more and nearly got himself and his brother killed. Yeah, they made the bone-headed choice to put themselves in danger, but these are minors. We all were shaking our heads and saying this was a stupid idea when Simba took Nala to the elephant graveyard when Mufasa just warned his son it was dangerous. He trusted Simba to be responsible with that knowledge and he disobeyed. Same thing happened here. Jake trusted them enough to let them do one thing that was reasonably safe but still helping, and they (well, Lo’ak) couldn’t even do that. It’s one thing to act upon what your parents limit you to do (obedience,) and it’s something completely different when you overstep those limits (disobedience.) Boundaries are set for a reason: to keep you safe so you can ease into more extreme situations when you are ready for it. 14 and 15 years old is way too young to try to take matters into your own hands, but I think we forget that because we are too used to these superhero movies and TV shows.
    Geez, I feel I’m stating the obvious here, but that’s only because it blows my mind that some people don’t get what Cameron is trying to say. They are too much in their own heads trying to think up a better solution to outsmart the story being told instead of going on the journey and considering what is being shown to them. How are the characters are feeling, why they are feeling this way, how do they come up with their plans of action, and how do they try to keep their plans from blowing up in their face?
    Lo’ak constantly has his plans blow up in his face and it’s up to his brother to bail him out of it. Siblings do that for each other, sure, but this isn’t like picking a fight at school or something childish like that. This IS a life or death situation. A 14 year old isn’t or at least shouldn’t be responsible for his own life.
    I’m just putting this out there and I’ll let you guys discuss if I’m making any sense because I see a lot of people upset over how Jake is hard on Lo’ak, or they don’t understand why Jake was mad at Lo’ak over Neteyam’s death. I personally do think Lo’ak shares some of the blame here, if not all of it, but he probably would have been killed if Neteyam wasn’t there to buy him and Spider time to escape.

    I've waited on your reaction for this! ❤❤❤
    I'm so glad that you liked the movie!
    I absolutely loved it, I'd even dare to say for me it was better than the first one. I loved all the new characters, relationships portrayed within the Sully Family, the Metkayina clan and customs, the whole new underwater world and creatures..... The plot was amazing, too! The battle sequence, sinking ship and finally - Lo'ak and Kiri overcoming their own fears and insecurities in order to save their parents and little sister. Jake telling Lo'ak "I see you son" was such an emotional moment.... I'm not sure if not one of the best in the entire movie. All Lo'ak ever really wanted to do, was to make his father proud. And he did. In everyday life those are the parents who are supposed to protect and support their children, while in this scene the roles reversed - Jake and Neytiri were too devastated and heartbroken after Neteyam's death and they both came to a point they couldn't take it anymore. They had to trust their kids to lead them out of the dark. It's such an emotional, empowering scene.
    I'd love to see both Jake and Lo'ak trying to fix their relationship in the third movie, I just can't wait to see how the story and each character's personality will develop. I belive Neteyam's death will bring all of the Sullys closer than they ever were before. The theme of Lo'ak's trauma would probably be extended: at the start he'd probably feel very insecure and guilty for his older brother's death, still somewhat distrustful and distant towards his parents, but I kinda feel like all that's happened will shape him up stronger, to become better and more responsible, and protective brother towards Kiri, Tuk and Spider. At the same time, Jake might have cut him some slack and become more compassionate and better father, now that he's starting to understand how his younger son felt and what he was going through. I'm sure he'd become a better father to all of his children in general.
    I remember sitting back in the theaters with chills running down my spine in every single scene. I haven't watched such a good family movie like in ages! I totally adored this one for being mainly about the problems of adolescent youth, and sort of questions "Who I really am? Where do I belong?". It just hit me so hard.... Also the fact that Kiri (to which I think I can relate to when it comes to the personality), a 14 year old character was played so well by Sigourney Weaver ( who's 73 I suppose?).... It's just something wonderful. The way she portrayed all of the emotions, mimics, movements was magical. Even James Cameron himself, said in one of the interviews that she didn't acted a teenage girl. She just "became younger".
    I'm sincerely rooting for Tsireya × Lo'ak romantic relationship to grow in future instalments. That boy is clearly following in his father's footsteps, falling in love for the clan princess, who was also his teacher. She was always kind and open for making new friends with The Sully Kids as soon as she saw them, never harrasing and bullying them, like her older brother. Always trusting in Lo'ak, even when everyone else doubted him.
    The smallest details, and depth behind all of the world all of the crew is creating for the movies is just simply amazing.

    I finally got a chance to see this today, and I loved it! The environment, the story, the characters, the action and the emotional moments are what made this film better than the first. Spider’s story reminds me of Tarzan; he had Quaritch’s blood, but not his heart. I’m hoping by the next sequel he might get his own Avatar body, and that maybe Neytiri might come to accept him. While I could see Avatar Quaritch going from villain to maybe antihero, it would have to be a great redemption arc. Kiri gives me Anakin Skywalker vibes as they both were conceived with a mother, but possibly no known father. I have theory that maybe Eywa created Kiri with a special bond to her because Grace treated Eywa with respect as she only wanted to have knowledge and understanding of her and never had a bad intentions with that knowledge. Maybe Kiri was a gift as Eywa couldn’t save Grace or give her life again, but could give her life in the form of a daughter. My heart did break as we lost Netyam as Jake and Neytiri had to learn the hard reality of burying their own child like Théoden lost Théodred. I was glad that Lo’ak was finally able to find himself in the end and to finally have his father acknowledge his love for him. Tuk is so cute, funny, adventurous, and reminds me of Dot from A Bugs Life. I can’t wait for the sequels to come! I too wonder what other Na’vi tribes we’ll get to see.

    I learned why Spider saved Quaritch from one of the screenwriters of AVATAR 2. The movie allows Spider to explore these ambivalent feelings he’s having, and the writer thinks it’s fine that the audience is like, “Don’t rescue him!” But the idea that Spider is compelled to rescue Quaritch is interesting from a character point of view.

    Awwwww ur so sweet and soft hearted. I cried thru the movie especially at the end I seen it 6 times in the theater and each time I cried at the end with the scene with his dead son in the memory they had. I need a boyfriend like u or a best friend someone who I can cried too when we go to movies and comfort each other lol. This movie hurts my heart so bad everytime I see the end. The only other 2 movies that made my heart hurt so bad like this was titanic & Thelma and Louise

    • @sathvamp1
      @sathvamp1 ปีที่แล้ว

      That last part with the memory got me the most emotional in particular. I've only recently gained an appreciation for emotional movies-- it was the movie "Inside Out" when I FIRST felt the feel-good brain endorphins that can often come along with tears. BEFORE then, I had totally avoided tearjerkers (and never tended to cry much in general), BUT "Inside Out" turned me into a tearjerker-seeker! It's actually been a bit frustrating since it's apparently easier said than done to find a movie that makes me cry, but some successes have included "Interstellar", "My Girl," and especially "The Land Before Time" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".
      I do have at least one friend who I COULD try to watch tearjerkers with... BUT I am not sure how I would respond because I've always been SO self-conscious about crying in front of other people (even if it's totally expected!). Lately I've been saving potential tearjerkers for late at night when everyone is asleep because if I think someone might even knock on my door, tears turn out to be impossible lol. But yeah, if my nervous system lets me, it'd be an awesome experience to share because just watching reactors in a virtual setting releases that empathy-hormone oxytocin... it happens during that "Awwwww" reaction we have :D
      Oh... side note... if you want to add some serious tearjerkers to your own short list... I forgot to mention THESE:
      "Into The Wild"... it's based on a true story. I actually saw that one BEFORE my tearjerker-seeking days (accidentally, lol... but yes it still pulled some serious tears).
      "Miracle in Cell No. 7" (I saw and think I prefer the Korean version, the original) - ALSO based on a true story. THAT was actually the most extremely tear-triggering movie I have ever seen... in an objective sense. It took my own tears almost a full DAY to get released though, because if emotions such as anger are also present (which is very easy for that movie to trigger!), for ME it seems they tend to "fight" with my sadness emotions. So yeah... for THAT movie, it basically made me "emotionally constipated" lol.

    One of the best sequels ever made. I cried so much when the son died. Wrecked me

  • @sathvamp1
    @sathvamp1 ปีที่แล้ว

    3:23 - "Why am I crying already, it's only been 10 minutes" - that reminded me of how the sheer beauty of a movie like this can trigger that (among other reasons of course!). I found a scientific paper once that categorized "positive tears" into those triggered by beauty, amusement, affection or achievement. In the first Avatar movie, when Jake subdues his Ikran, that scene always triggers "achievement tears" from me, although before I read that paper, I had NO clue what to call my reaction, lol! Events like that are more translatable to everyday life than we may think at first:
    For example, one time when my mom and I were watching Avatar and the scene came up showing how WILD Jake's Ikran was before taming it, I told her "That's exactly what any brand-new JOB will do to you on your first day!" She burst out laughing since it's so very true :P

    I have to say that the CGI looks perhaps the same as in Avatar 2009 when viewing the movie from a ”small” screen, but when seeing The Way of Water in IMAX 3D HFR the CGI is simply mind blowing 🤯 I went to see it 4 times just because of the experience.

    Creativity cannot be rushed. James Cameron sure didn’t waste his time having the right development of tech to assemble this Avatar sequel film. Motion capture still plays a role in help bringing these characters to life, but bringing all of that underwater? He really went beyond expectations. I commend him for that.
    That’s one of my dreams. To try out the motion capture suit at least once in my life.

    43:58 The part where you said "how can u take that seriously" were you talking about the pūkana. No disrespect to you bro it's just that it's has cultural significance to Maori culture,it's basically a death threat to the enemy saying I will consume you body and soul. This isn't to you,it's just when people see the pūkana they think it looks funny and make fun of it. This is just a glimpse of my culture,if people saw a real haka and pukana here in New Zealand they would feel intimidated
