Any comparison with todays real world politicians and civil servants of today spoils the relief I feel when watching this masterpiece. I wonder if it's the same in all countries. I'm not even British. I find it hard to imagine that someone could write this today, maybe even hard to think that anyone can read or write in 30 years. Perhaps a bit exaggerated.
@bertywooster1489 Even John Major was controversial due to his economic policy, which was roughly as disastrous as Liz Truss' - at least according to the Bank of England's records of the matter. Thatcher does get an invariably bad reputation for her hardline approach, which is also why Major isn't nearly as controversial, even though he arguably should be. What really irks people is likely the ideological objectives to couple the country to the European Union's affairs, leading to the economic crisis of his time.
Being trained by Hacker the master of press relations and Humphrey the master of administration, Bernard is set to become one of the most terrifying cabinet secretary!
How about the readers: The Daily Mirror - read by those who think they run the country The Guardian - read by those who think they ought to run the country The Times - read by those who do run the country Daily Mail - read by the wives of the people who run the country Financial Times - read by those who own the country The Morning Star - read by those who think the country should be run by another country The Daily Telegraph - read by those who think the country is being run by another country. Classic!!!
Each year, the scripts seem for the present year, I always watch the series like it's my first time. It never ceases to amaze me. Actually, I've learned a great deal of how governments around the world function and that what we read or hear is not what is really happening. I can't thank you enough for this both entertaining and educational series.
Jeezo, with all the chaos that’s going on in 10 Downing St just now, this seems tame. Writers Jay and Lynn couldn’t come up with the carnage that’s happening now.
They tried putting a girl in the top job, what did you expect? I think may and thatcher made clear the chaos that follows when we forget that girls get mood swings once a month.
@@mycodermos Since it was originally recorded as 625 line PAL, that wouldn't make much difference-BBC/ITV in conjunction with Britbox have recently restored their video masters and probably given them a few software tweaks as well, which is about as good as they get. They're quite well done.

It is a fundamental principle of the British constitution that the government must retain the confidence of the legislature, as it is not possible for a government to operate effectively without the support of the majority of the people's representatives.[3] At the national level, this means that the UK government (the cabinet) must retain the confidence of a majority in the House of Commons. It is possible for a vote of no confidence to succeed where there is a minority government or a small majority, or """where there are internal party splits leading to some members of the ruling party voting against its leaders"" . Where there is a minority government, the government may seek agreements or pacts with other parties in order to prevail in the vote and remain in office. Clearly the party is split, they didn't even have a proper vote on their new leader, Rishi secured his majority throug a deal with Suella Braverman. There is a criminal cartel at the heart of the tory party and british polotics. The Cartel have been playing a trick on us like a tired, lame Magician. We can see how the trick is done, we know how the tricks been done before, we know you're doing it again now, and wer're not going to agree again to double or quits. This is beyond ridicule, this is serious, this is a domestic threat to our democracy. There is no confidence in this government.
In 1985 the French smuggled explosives into New Zealand and blew up an undefended boat (The Rainbow Warrior). After all that we did for them in the first and second world wars. That was not a comedy.

Each episode is a sculptured work of art.
awesome
Absolutely. I can't help but feel a sense of ennui when I compare to the stuff we get today
the wit and scale of it outshines much made since
Best sit com ever written, and absolutely undertaken by 3 of the best actors of that time. Priceless

Only Fools And Horses
Yes Minister
Yes Prime Minister
One of the finest comedies of all time.
I'll argue the finest!
I agree wholeheartedly!
-comedies- documentaries
And timeless.
Some golden exchanges here !
The one about who reads each newspaper always gets me.
One of the best series of all time. Impeccably written and acted!
A timeless classic.
Could have been written yesterday!
Yes!
Please. We wish our PM was this competent. All the last 3 of them...
The writing is genius. Absolutely wonderful, but operating at a higher level than we have been seeing in the past couple of months in Whitehall.
reduction at the level of public servants.

A masterclass in comedy and comedic writing. Will probably never be bettered
The world needs this type of comedy today more than ever!
"It's one of the seven Dudley sins" LOL
The best television we ever made, and still as amusing as ever. Such good entertainment.
Bernard's witty quips are a delight altogether.!
Jim Hacker may very well be the 3rd best PM the UK has had since 1979.
who are the two even better than him?
@Berty Considering how controversial Thatcher was, I think quite a few would argue that Hacker was the best since the 70's period. 😛

Genius writing which has never been beaten. So sad that there is nothing of this quality any more.
Lovely intricacy of production where Humphrey pauses so believably in his sentence so Bernard shutting the door doesn’t drown out the dialogue ❤ 26:20
RIP Paul Eddington-loved you in Robin Hood,The Good Life,Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister!!
One of the best parts of this show (+ predecessor) is how Jim starts raw but slowly learns how to grapple with the civil service and sometimes wins
