      Since I started making an effort to actually breed the animals that I have kept, I have produced snakes every single year continuously since about 1990. Next season is essentially our last year here in the states and we are left with some challenging projects so we will see.

    @eminart 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes! Love the big Spilotes. I agree on the size. I have a 6 year old male Drymarchon couperi and he's only about 6 1/2 feet, although, admittedly, he's always been a bit of a picky eater for a Drymarchon. I'm hoping my Spilotes continue to grow though. Being imports, hopefully they have the genetics to get big.

    • @DMExotics

      I'm not even sure I am a "youtuber". There is just a fraction of viewers that watch to learn, the majority just want to be entertained or fill idle time with simply sitting in front of a screen. If modern entertainment is spending 24hrs in a snake cage, I am not an entertainer. However, at the end of the day I want my name associated with actually doing real things as opposed to being a jackass and forgotten about.

    Hey Dan...Another quick question. I also have a white AP cage. A while back I used coco coir and peat mix and I swear it stained the hell out of the plastic. Have you ever had that issue and if you have, how did you get it off?

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use cypress mulch but haven't noticed any stains. I would just try various cleaning agents. You could probably also lightly buff or sand off the stain if it is just on the surface. For me I would just leave it stained as it doesn't really bother me and the occupants don't care at all.

    • @DMExotics

      I use melamine racks and the tub sizes are v15 and v18’s

  • @grettelguerra7511
    @grettelguerra7511 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the randomness today Dan! Nice AP cages too. In the market for an enclosure for my black milk snake who’s growing like a weed. Going with either Vision or AP. Only had racks until now and wondering what the maintenance is like with these bigger enclosures. For deep cleaning and disinfecting, do you dump out the substrate or use something like a shopvac? Those cages don’t look light so I’d imagine having to dump out substrate periodically could get quite labor intensive.

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use cypress and spot clean until it needs a deep cleaning. However, I am not removing those cages from where they sit. They are all wired up to thermostats, temp probes, etc. so I won't be breaking them down until we move. Those cages are not heavy and are easy to move around.

    Do you think the diet effects the size of the drymarchon and other species?

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, a heavy diet just makes them fat. I think with some, a limited(and sometimes very limited) gene pool is making them smaller.

    • @DMExotics

    Really hope that genetic testing comes back in our favor! How amazing it would be to be able to include Papuan genetics in the shallow gene pool currently with the Anteresia. Or do you feel it would be best to only keep Papuan genetics separate from those from supposed Australian genetics? Also, those glass tea light holders look awesome! I have been looking for ways to get away from the plastic disposable deli cups so many of us use. I am assuming you are not a fan of the disposable plastic either? I normally use the pvc fittings and then put a 2oz deli cup inside of it. Those little glass ones you showed us looks like it would work in the pvc holder. Only reason I would still use the pvc is to increase the weight and foot print so it won't tip. I like to use the little cups with some of my rosy boas that tend to tip their bowls.

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I needed water bowls with a narrower diameter because the smaller vision tubs are very narrow and won't accommodate a deli cup. Plus glass is easy to clean. In regards to the Antaresia, I am hoping the genetic testing comes back to indicate a new species or subspecies. I have never thought about using them to increase a gene pool...I think that would only ruin the purity of something so rare.

    • @areareptiles7971
      @areareptiles7971 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DMExotics Gotcha! Makes sense. My thoughts being that it was all one land mass at one time, that they would be the same species. If they are not the same, the obviously that would be amazing! Also, if they are the same species then that too would be amazing for the outcrossing of the current US genetics right?

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ARea Reptiles I still would not outcross. The scrub pythons are distinct species, the green tree pythons are distinct species, frilled dragons, carpet pythons...the list goes on and on. However, I think the locality is enough to keep it separate. There are three Papuan animals out there, that is far less than pure super dwarf retics and it’s already a struggle to find pure animals of those that haven’t been cross bred and lost forever.
