One day, Ethan the black E2 Tank Engine was shunting some Ore Cars and a caboose into place. He had just finished pushing the last Ore Car into an empty siding, when he heard an echoing whistle. He stopped still and stared in silent surprise. Thomas the Tank Engine had come to visit.
Thomas was amazed to see his lost brother had been restored to full working order.
"I was sure you'd been scrapped," blurted Thomas, astonished.
"Not so," smiled Ethan. He told his brother how he had ended up here in America, left on a rusty siding with three open wagons. Thomas was intrigued.
"Did you ever meet my oldest brother, Timothy?" the blue Tank Engine asked.
"Once, I believe," answered Ethan. "I am sorry about your loss."
Thomas and Ethan worked together on the American Railroad for a week. Thomas didn't want to part with his brother. Ethan winked knowingly and spoke to the general manager.
"Time you went back to Sodor, Thomas," observed the black tank engine. "Manager says that, if it can be arranged, I'll come and visit you one day." Thomas felt better.
"That would be wonderful," the blue engine agreed.
Back on Sodor metals, Thomas was snoozing in the shed. The stars twinkled cheerfully in the clear night sky. The blue tank engine was dreaming of the day Ethan would come to visit him. Sweet dreams, Thomas. May your wish come true.
