    1) As originally shipped on device release day, the internal "storage" setting did not recognize NTFS. It was apparently recognized by file management apps. They fixed it with the first update shipped a week after the initial release and NTFS is recognized by any app and by the built-in storage link under the settings menu system. So it works and works well with NTFS.
    2) The "Super Resolution" enhancement works well but needs to be tested well. Partly that's because modern TV's come with their own resolution enhancement (also called "Super Resolution" in my TV) and because 4K TVs are going to upscale every common lower resolution that the streaming device doesn't upscale.
I found significant enhancement not just in pixel level resolution upscaling 480p, 720p, 1080p to 4K but the major enhancements were also in the colors/contrast/brightness settings that would work consistently with the best settings of the TV. That undoubtedly depends on the HDR version or not being upsampled. Other 4K streaming devices I have mangle HDR, or other settings of some content requiring tweaking of the TV for individual shows to give best picture. A bit of that occurs in my use with the 3rd Gen Cube but far less (minor tweak of brightness for some reason in some streaming content. Basically the colors overall from the 3rd Gen Cube are more consistently great with minor tweaking or no tweaking of the TV itself. For resolution alone, upscaling 480p content (standard TV) is very much improved with Super Resolution turned on with the 3rd Gen Cube.
Again, how you compare is more complicated by the systems viewers on the Internet look at your comparisons than you might imagine. What the comparisons have in the first place are then modified by your viewing streaming device and the TV you're using in addition to what the comparison itself shows in real-time comparing.

@Triple M, the NTFS file system is required if you want to use larger storage or have files over 4 GB, which is the case with many longer videos, like movies or concert videos. The format is more resilient to file system damage as well since it logs all changes to the file/folder structure. Not sure if read/write performance is a real issue; never heard that before.

Is there any way you know of to get an Hdmi signal in to a fire stick? I want to connect a DVD player to a fire stick and am trying to come up with an app that could display a signal through the fire TV, maybe coming from a capture card. I know this is way outside the intended use for a fire stick but I am hopeful it is possible. Thanks for reading.

This is kinda off-topic ,so thanks for any help. Setting up the Cube and making sure i try and get it right. Basic setup is this (1) Suddenlink CB back of Yamaha receiver HDMI 1. (2) Old fire tv flat box HDMI 2 in my Yamaha AV R. The Cube has 2 HDMI ports 1 in 1 out. Heres my first thought about install : Suddenlink CB HDMI in the IN slot of the Cube. FTV Cube HDMI in the OUT slot.Which routes to back of AVR and then im good because its goes straight to TV. Kinda pass thru reroute thing .Ive got a SAMSUNG 70" Class Q60B-Series QLED 4K Smart TV .
I said all that to ask this :(1) Is this the right way ?(2) Will i notice a difference on my Cable HD channels using a pass thur on the Cube ? (3) Just do the Cube on its own.Once again thanks for any help.I tend to think -rethink-rethink the rethink-then still get it wrong.LOL🙃🙃

I’ve just set mine up today and tried an NTFS formatted Samsung T7 drive , to my amazement it worked just fine. So it does read NTFS. Going to try an exFAT drive next. I’ll get back with the results. No luck with exFAT drives, NTFS work fine though and you even get generated thumbnails in the media player.

Can you check you have your output set to 2160p please?
I thought I read somewhere maybe it had to be on that rather than Auto but also may be confusing with other articles I read.
Thanks for the uploads I have the 2019 fire cube and am interested to see super resolution but no difference can be detected there in my opinion watching on my phone.
Basically all the extra cash is for WiFi 6e, a hdmi port with pass through which is still interesting, but no upgrade of ethernet to 1gb is not good and not much more expensive to implement. Wired connections will always be better/more stable. First impressions are super resolution is a gimmick.
I see many mention the Nvidia shield and pro. Is there a new version coming out or which one would be best for picture quality?
I see many review websites mention the chrome cast as a good device but no mentions of processor/ hardware puts me off.
I am happy with the quality of the cube but would like to see a top quality picture if there is much difference. Has anyone used both?
I would appreciate if anyone can let me know.
Also forgot to add the IR extender and pro remote are not included in the 3rd gen, and all companies now seem to be giving less value for money, cutting back.

I connected a 750GB Toshiba external drive to the fire cube that was formatted FAT32 and it wasn’t recognized. Amazon stated that officially the max that would work is 128GB USB 3.0 drive but others have stated that the max is 2TB (and I’ve seen it work before). The ScanDisk drives are supposedly the best one’s for fire tv devices.

yes u can disable it, idk why they didn't release this update to the Cube 2, cause they do know there's a saturation issue in the Cube 2 so the fix is manually change the resolution to 2160p or 1080p in your display setting

Upscaling a 1080p image as a demonstration is not such a good idea. Whereas upscaling a 360p or 480p image would give us a good idea of what it can do.
Many of the 70's music videos on TH-cam are in 360p at best 480p, this is the sort of material I would want upscaling not already HD quality material.
A Nvidia Shield TV Pro vs 2022 Fire Cube comparison video needs producing CONCENTRATING on the upscaling abilities.

People calling it a disappointment (aka it sucks) are totally clueless. Yes, it should have come with a gigabit network port and it should have a USB 3.0/1 port. If you get a USB hub with a gigabit Ethernet port built in, it would support speeds up to about 500 mps. It’s not gigabit speed support, but it’s better than it comes with built in.
I’m impressed wit the performance overall though. It’s way faster than my 1st gen fire stick 4K (2018).
They should have included the Alexa voice remote pro with it as well.

    • @old-mtl-guy
      @old-mtl-guy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The 100 MBS ethernet port really isn't a big deal - 4k streaming only needs about 25-30 MBS depending on the service you are streaming from. With the WiFi 6 I am hitting around 600 MBS which is more than what I would need for anything at all. I like the Cube, it is fast, every device has a few Quirks, even the Mighty Shield Pro. I replaced my standard 2020 Shield with the 3rd gen cube and I like it better. It is way faster and doesn't lag at all. A few minor quirks to work out on my end, but I am happy with it.
