I have been looking at reviews and this is the only one that says HDMI in is capped at 1080p. Actually most reviews written or in video format don't even mention it. I did find one that said both HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1 (lacks 120). can you please confirm? If HDMI in is capped at 1080p it would be a deal breaker for me :(.
15:12 It's wild to me that having your TV automatically turn off when your firestick goes into sleep mode is only a feature on their flagship device. That should be a basic feature. Or maybe it's available on some OS7 devices? I've only got two OS6 devices, and they JUST got bluetooth volume control. NIce video BTW.
Hi. I'm trying to record shows on my IPTV service. Using a thumb drive plugged in to the USB port on the cube 3 I just cannot get it to work. Do I need to do something with ADB?. Any suggestions would be much appreciated
I believe there are a few bugs with the cube. I noted an issue related to Super Resolution. If you set Auto for resolution, then watch a 1080p show, Super Resolution does not seem to work. However, if you select a resolution manually, like 2160p 60fps, then Super Resolution works. Additionally, I saw different results on TH-cam with HDR10 Black level testing if I had set resolution manually to 2160p 60fps vs Auto (also saw different results with HDR10 Color Clipping). Not sure why, but that seems to be the case in my testing.
@@TheBman3rd I fixed it by selecting 10 bit instead of 12 bits, in addition to setting resolution manually to 2160p and 60hz. With this, I get super resolution working great and it works consistently well in all other testing.

Great review. Sadly, the third generation has been a complete failure for me. Currently sent back to Amazon Engineering for further review. But from what I have found, the setup was very buggy. Well, at least for me. I’m on my second replacement now and I’m thinking of switching back to the second Gen. The biggest issue I’m having is when I pair my 2 echo studios and Sub to the device. Works great UNTIL I add the other devices from other inputs. I have my frieTV on the ARC as instructed but when I add other devices, I loose the surround sound. But when it bugs out ( prior to completely adding the other devices sometimes the speaker wouldn’t say “ if the input changed press fast forward on the remote now “ causing it to cancel the addition. But the surround worked on all devices. Now that I got all my inputs programmed through the firetv cube after a reboot, the home theatre group doesn’t work on anything besides the firetv. It’s so weird. Hopefully Amazon can determine if this is truly a bug in the system and release a fix. Would love to use my home theater group for everything ( PS, Xbox and Switch) I do like the extra input though. I plugged the Xbox into that and the surround works. So I guess that’s a plus.
Can the new cube read NTFS formatted drives connected to the USB port? The older cube was Fat32 only. Answered my own question….I’ve just set up my new cube and it does in fact read NTFS drives.

My major complaint about nvidia shield is that it pixelates on live TV when playing sports or other fast action programs in 1080i mpeg2 format. Will the new Cube play this format without pixelating?
Have you checked your AI upscaling settings? That gives me grief with some formats and can pixelate a bit or I get a weird squiggly field for 5 inches on the right-side of my screen. See what "Enhanced" or "Basic" does or turn off "Apply upscaling while streaming" if you're streaming see what that does. I usually just temp it down to Basic.
Greetings from Milwaukee, WI. I just ordered this Fire Cube a couple of hours ago. I will be upgrading from the 4K Firestick. So, my question is, can I plug in any USB stick that's empty right into the Cube and transfer apps? I just downloaded X-plorer on my current stick.
Would I be able to add a Ethernet Hub to this by plugging it into the USB 2.0 Port and get faster Ethernet speeds? Or would I get the same speeds as the built in Ethernet Port since the 2.0 USB Port isn't USB 3.0?
It’s fat 32 and it was accessible on the pc. However, if you format to device storage it will not be accessible from any other device. I have to check to see if BTFS works as well.
Shield it baby. I can access my formatted to internal storage SSD and my external HDD (exFAT) on my Shield over network. I just transfer files from my PC that way.

Of course you need faster speed 90Mbps is super slows connection..I just got the cube Gen 3 today and my xfinity speed is 1.2gig and the new modem XB8 supports wifi 6E and my speed test on the cube is 480Mbps but in my nvidia shield pro is 940Mbps big difference. It's hard to believe that Amazon decide to include a network port with such a slow speed. Nvidia Shield still the king

The question about the ethernet port is simple if it can handle the resolution it specified then it’s on ok... but if other applications suffer from it then it’s not good.... the limitations are usually only to be hardware based, if limitations are in the software the product isn’t ready...
At the price you pay compared to other media box why not have the best internet speed and processing?? If you use a vpn to stream from a different country then the faster the speed the better your experience!!!
For 95% of the Users out there, the best thing about the new 3 gen cube is that it means the 2nd gen cube is on sale for $60. At that price, it is tough to beat.
I bought a cube and firestick 4k max, I also bought 2 firestick remote pros. I like this new cube because I can plug my 4k player into it instead of switching ports on my mothers TV which only has 2 hdmi ports.
You can side load the server APK but it will probably struggle with transcoding. As far as I'm aware the server option only appears if the Plex server is installed, but I could be wrong.

I was attempting to get Dolby Atmos from my Alexa Home Theater Group of 2 Echo Studios and a Echo Sub and that didn't register until I switched the HDMI audio to headset format. Which make sense because the Studios achieve Dolby Atmos with spatial surround sound the same way as gaming headset do.
Interesting review. For me the day of the set top box is dead and buried. Who wants the clutter and cables? This especially true with wall mounted panels. Other devices have voice options pushing a button on the remote, Roku, Chromecast TV.

Please explain why that is a deal breaker? What are you doing on this device that you need more than 100 Ethernet? Sure if it was a gig your content would load faster, but won't look any better. I will put money on it that your gig speed and my 100 meg speed on this device side by side and we play the same content will look exactly the same. Faster internet speed doesn't make the content look any better.
How are you watching sports in 4k because none of the services I have play sports in 4k. if you're talking about the NFL they don't broadcast in 4k. no sports broadcast in 4k.
@@TheBman3rd Football, College football is in 4k, MLB is in 4K, Soccer, and many other sports also. Many services provide sports in 4k ESPN, TH-cam TV, Direct TV and many others.
I personally will never again buy an Amazon device. The ads and cluttered interface is annoying and Amazon trying to dictate what apps we can or cannot sideload and the issues with the shortcut icons. Amazon can shove it - I wouldn't take it even if it was free.
Plex running on shield tv pixelates 1080i mpeg2. Plex runing on the same tv the the shield is connected to does not pixelate. Plex cast from my phone or desktop to the same TV shield ty is connected to do not pixelate..... has to be the shield not being able to hande 1081i mpeg2 files
I've had 2 different Fire stick versions and both were junk, very slow and worthless, I've better android boxes if you're going to pay this much for a streaming device get an Nvidia Shield it's not perfect, but it's fast and the upscaling is incredible even old shows look much better.
Not including new remote with the new device is gonna turn a lot of people off if they already have Nvidia shield pro bc makes no sense not to include new remote bc now it's basically the same price as Nvidia shield pro and the price difference was one of the most attractive things to me but bc of the remote not much of a price difference

If you use a 1gb ethernet adapter it will give great speeds. Not just the 100 as they say. I'm getting 400 of my 500 with new cube

How are you watching sports in 4k because none of the services I have play sports in 4k. if you're talking about the NFL they don't broadcast in 4k. no sports broadcast in 4k.
@@TheBman3rd Football, College football is in 4k, MLB is in 4K, Soccer, and many other sports also. Many services provide sports in 4k ESPN, TH-cam TV, Direct TV and many others.
I personally will never again buy an Amazon device. The ads and cluttered interface is annoying and Amazon trying to dictate what apps we can or cannot sideload and the issues with the shortcut icons. Amazon can shove it - I wouldn't take it even if it was free.

Plex running on shield tv pixelates 1080i mpeg2. Plex runing on the same tv the the shield is connected to does not pixelate. Plex cast from my phone or desktop to the same TV shield ty is connected to do not pixelate..... has to be the shield not being able to hande 1081i mpeg2 files

I've had 2 different Fire stick versions and both were junk, very slow and worthless, I've better android boxes if you're going to pay this much for a streaming device get an Nvidia Shield it's not perfect, but it's fast and the upscaling is incredible even old shows look much better.

Not including new remote with the new device is gonna turn a lot of people off if they already have Nvidia shield pro bc makes no sense not to include new remote bc now it's basically the same price as Nvidia shield pro and the price difference was one of the most attractive things to me but bc of the remote not much of a price difference
