    It would be awesome if transmitters had a power socket next to the neckstrap attachment point that could power goggles. A cable would be built into the neckstrap and exit neckstrap at the back of your neck and plug in at the back of goggle head strap that also has the cable integrated in it. Plugged in at the back of your head means it won't tug on the cord even when you put goggles on top of head between flights. Ability to access and control music from your phones music library and play it through a Bluetooth speaker would also be super nice

    I've heard the gimbals in the X9 Lite are the same as what is in the QX7 so the M7 hall sensor gimbals might work for those who want to upgrade (I haven't confirmed this myself yet).

      Maybe I need to actually take the gimbal out to measure it, but it looks exactly the same as the one in the QX7. I've actually opened it up and looked at the back of the gimbal. It looks the same as the QX7 gimbal (also on the back)

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlbertKimTV from what I've heard the mounting platform is actually the same. It's the depth of the gimbal back that's different. Also, the x9 lite gimbals are slightly shorter travel than the M7 or M9. I assume there had to be a reason for that as well.....compressed depth I'm guessing.

    I like my QX7 and have dropped it at least six times. I don't like psuedo crossfire compatibility (~80%, so close so far) but the r9 works pretty well. I think I'm making the jumper t12 I picked up as a backup dedicated crossfire micro and skipping x9lite, and xlite pro, ACCESS, etc. Maybe OpenTx is the the real value and we're just seeing company after company fail because they just can't profit off it enough.

    If they upgrade it somewhat, like metal fixing point for the strap, and maybe the option to adjust gimbal tension from the outside, like on the Xlite series. In it's current state, it might be popular enough to still sell well for 90 dollar, but from what I understand about the general quality feel, it seems 75 dollar would feel more appropriate.

    I was especially pleased to hear your opinion on standard gimbals. After 6 years, they still work perfectly well. BRAVO, sir, it takes guts to say something like that. This is largely an area of 'toys for boys', and gear envy and spec-chasing reduce a great hobby to an infantile race to brag about stats. "Ooh, but Hall-effect gimbals are essential because they feel better and if you look at the response and recovery graphs, they -" Oh, just STFU and fly, child!
    It's the same with cameras. Never mind all the figures and modes and menu options - can you take great pictures? Yes. With your Taranis: do you still fly and love your hobby? Yes. That's all that matters, people. Never mind feeling ashamed that your gear lacks such-and-such a feature - just USE IT and stop feeling inadequate because someone else has got a bigger or faster or more expensive one.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I have both the version with hall sensors and without. Been using them both the past few months. Now that they're a little more worn in, I can tell some minor difference in the hall sensor gimbals but it's so minor it's hard to care. If I were to buy one, I would go with the hall sensor version because it's only $20 more or something but it really doesn't matter in this application. The product life isn't long enough to matter.

    Good to know it works for those with big hands... but as I started off on Spektrum and am still making do with it for now: if I invest money & time in a new system it's gonna be Crossfire. I have one coming for hardcore testing soon.
    TopSky's second iteration of their low end goggle: bit.ly/2WLaicQ
    I've got one on the way for testing.
    Note: I do not like FrSky as a company but I do like this particular product of theirs. There is no other option that is about this size and general shape with as much travel on the gimbals and support for crossfire. If there were, I would not even touch this controller.
    To get crossfire to work, you just need to update your X9 Lite to the nightly builds. There will be official releases in the future but for now the nightlys are all we have with the updated protocols. It's just three wires that need to be soldered and it's up to you if you want to include the 6v for power from the controllers batteries for low power crossfire usage.

    I bought two of x9 lite from a private party on craigs list. I come from spektrum dx9 and futaba 14sg. It took me took a day to learn open tx and companion. I am a pincher flying only helicopters. Been practicing on simulator. The gimbals are fine. Not butter smooth like spektrum or futaba. I like high stick tension. The only thing still not use to is the gimbal spacing is small. This is a narrow radio. I have added 5mm neoprene tape to the sides to make it wider but the kimbal spacing is still too narrow coming from full size radio. I might buy a Qx7. Stick travel can be changed by adjusting the height to a degree.

      To be honest once you have configured betaflight OSD (or crossfire OSD) much of the frsky telemetry is redundant. Maybe ask Joshua Bardwell. The micro crossfire tx uses a lua script to configure the transmitter and to allow the transmitter to update receivers and more. To use it you just run the script and for the most part it just works.

    I see a lot of people liking the Nirvana so I thought I would share my experience with it. (Wall of text, consider yourself warned)
    I ended up returning my Nirvana. Like the firmware wasn't being updated regularly and it just wasn't finished. Mine literally came with no firmware loaded out of the box, not a great start.
    Then the JR bay didn't have the correct voltage to drive an xjt module and they (Flysky) expected you to solder a (IIRC) 0603 resistor to fix that. Like I can do it, but that isn't a reasonable thing to ask a consumer to do. Not to mention it an instruction from one obscure forum post Flysky authored and they didn't even answer any follow up questions.
    You're right though, fit and finish was better than any other "drone radio" I've used (high end stuff like graupner not included). I really loved how it felt as a thumber.
    But I couldn't just keep wrestling with the bad firmware though. This isn't even including the drama with UG FPV with the different firmware versions. That and there were quite a few hardware issues you see posted on the rc forums, they would eventually respond "it will be fixed in the next hardware revision", uhh well what about everyone else who bought your trash who's stuck with defective hardware?
    This was my experience around 04/19, they might have fixed all the issues by now but I wouldn't count on it. When I gave up firmware got an update maybe once every 4 weeks at best and it only fixed minor issues.
    Sorry this wall of text was a bit longer than what I was going for but as you can see I fell into a rant.

      I was just really upset with how that product was handled, seems like it was developed well to the 90% mark then rushed out the door for the last bit.
      I'll admit I miss the ergonomics of it though, the shorter gimbal travel was great for thumbers imo

      I have it. It totally sucks. R9 is a waste of money and time. Regular 2.4 is almost the same as the dumb 1w and there are so many different versions you don't know what's what with all the firmware and what to order. The antenna bits are also trash quality. Wait for them to come out with another five versions. Maybe then they'll have figured it out.

      @@bmwcoders2020 I have all three variations of the R9 and all three variations of the Rx's. None of them are compatible and I'm far too lazy to rip Rx's out of quads to solder onto servo leads to update then stick them back in. I have about eight quads with three R9 modules I need to plug and unplung into my controller to see which one is for which quad. The fragmented ecosystem will likely keep getting more fragmented and is just an enormous headache. It's fine if you're willing to put in the effort to get things to work but I really don't have time to mess with all that BS. Crossfire has been 99% solid from the very beginning. I may return to R9 later if they ever figure it out well. For now, it's a total waste of time for me and in my area, the range is garbage too. I'm in a very very bad area for radio waves.

      Not the case. I can feel it in the stick movements with my own fingers. The x9 lite is slightly less travel. About 90-95% travel. Also, the M7 gimbals don't fit this radio

      Look around for a mod to fit the xfire lite in this controller. I'm sure many have done it already. The Bluetooth and wifi in the big crossfire module will be used with the upcoming module and other bits from what I hear. It's just taken a while. I also don't know how much use it will have.

      @@Kabab The small crossfire module is the "Crossfire micro TX". The "Crossfire TX lite" is the new model, almost the same as the one you have - the "Crossfire TX" , but without Bluetooth.

    • @amisoftau2659
      @amisoftau2659 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The crossfire CRSF protocol can tunnel telemetry data over the link, and I believe you can then use the Bluetooth capability to transfer such data wirelessly to a phone or tablet running ground station software. E.g. MissionPlanner for AuduPilot. It means that you can have a full control and telemetry link with all the benefits of the CRSF long range - greater than 10Km. Traditional Pixhawk usage uses separate lower power radios and radio link (900mhz) for telemetry.. which is cumbersome and not compatible with a 900mhz control link of course.
      None of which is very relevant for racing quads :). But you didn't say what your usage was. Also as others mentioned, there's apparently rumors of a Bluetooth capable goggle module in the future. Of interest, the "Crossfire micro TX" DOES have the Bluetooth module inside, though not used by current firmware. I've found the micro TX to be very usable, especially now it does 250mw. Cheers.

      @@Kabab The Bluetooth capable goggle module? Yep. I guess it could be used to have your goggles change freq. to follow your SA channel changes.. which would be useful. Each quad might have it's own (due to specific onboard camera) settings of brightness and contrast for your goggles.. auto configured via Bluetooth. Gotta keep the KISS principal in mind tho :). I mean there's a limit to how much complexity we want.
