    I've been owning a ROLI seaboard for a little over 6 months now, and I'm having a blast creating music with it! With all the sounds that are available through the software, I can litteraly create full songs without having to switch to any other instruments!

    because it has a silicone "shell" i wonder how long this material lasts until it needs a re skin, pianos can last many years under heavy use, but they are not plastic, i have some experience with silicone wrapped instruments, experimentally, this stuff in any permutation will break down, and it can absorb dirt and body oil off hands easily, important to keep hands very free, nice concept, just needs an easy inexpensive re skinning option

    • @sadev101
      @sadev101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats the one thing that worries me too. how long will it last. ive seen over 30 year old digital pianos from roland still working properly and in top condition. wonder how long this will last. im betting reskinning wont happen as i saw 1 video a bunch or nutters dismantle a seablock. and it doesnt look like you take it apart easily

      +Manabu Tokunaga No, not really. With the exception of the independent pitch change ability there is not much this $3000 controller can do that any modern synth can't. It's 90% hype, 10% "something new"....

    • @manabutokunaga3980
      @manabutokunaga3980 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using Korg M3 88 for my composition work, and yes, I can do most of what it can do with it, I think this would really give me much better expressive capabilities.
      One feature I really want is a polyphonic aftertouch that's easier to use and also I want to do away with the ribbon interface.

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Manabu Tokunaga Unless they can pull the price down to at least 1/2, if not a 1/3 of what they are asking this will stay a niche "toy" item for rich musicians...

    • @maxinator80ify
      @maxinator80ify 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Manabu Tokunaga This is just a copy of the Haken Continuum from the 80s.

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I've been playing for 40+ years, and I have seen all types of "new" controllers come and go. So yes, I *do* know what I am talking about. The *only* thing this controller can do that I can not already do with my current rig is the independent pitch control, (which I still can not figure out a musical use for anyway). At the price they are asking it *is* a "Toy for the Rich". The "average" working musician will not only have no use for this thing, but would not be able to justify the cost.

    I was searching for a individual pitch bend keyboard for years! and seems better than i thought. i just thought that bending could be simpler (for the user) if you put the sensor in the same key using up and down movements so you should control individual pitchs for all the fingers.

    I can see the potential, but after trying one out at a local music technology store, I found it to be at times obtrusive; I don't have as much agility and precise velocity response due to its design lacking the standard key action I rely on. I understand it had to be excluded in order to facilitate the advanced aftertouch functions, but this means I cannot play some of signature sequences and riffs as they require speed I cannot achieve on this keyboard. This wouldn't be a problem if I bought another keyboard with a standard key action design, but for the price of the Seaboard I don't expect to buy additional keyboards I need to fully utilise my techniques.

      I had just commented elsewhere your exact same observation although I've
      not the opportunity to try it out yet. I did notice the lack of raised black keys and although there is some pronunciation of those keys, I'm wondering if I'll lose control of the board once I start playing some fast phrasings or tricky chord voicings. We depend on those raised black keys since that's how pianists and other keyboardists anchor themselves on the instrument. I suppose this'd work as an addition to one's instrumental arsenal but have my doubts during live performance. I can't afford to constantly look down at my hands since in addition to singing background vocals, I also have to keep an eye on the leader for cues and breaks.

      Sky Vanfleet You say "the price isn't great as opposed to a keyboard". You DO realize that the Roli "Seaborad Grand" demonstrated in this video costs $8, 888.00 !! Frankly, that is one Hell-of-an EXPENSIVE price for a glorified "controller keyboard".

    cool, but there should be no white and black keys, just one type key, so changing keys would not be different. But internal lighting should be programmable, so you could make some keys black, or red:) That way everything just becomes intervals, like on a guitar and there are no confusing black keys to fuck it up if you don't want them:) It would be a far more friendly environment for guitarists.
