  • Unboxing, speed build and detailed review about the LEGO Technic 42099 4X4 X-treme Off-Roader set. This is the first Technic set to include the new Control+ hub and the L and XL motors, we'll check all of them in details and also compare the performance of the set to the 9398 / 41999 Crawler!
    You can find the link to the Control+ apps, the detailed video about the motors and the gear change guide in my blog post:
    racingbrick.com/2019/08/lego-...
    Features:
    - This cool toy truck model is controlled via the LEGO® TECHNIC™ CONTROL+ app and powered by an advanced Smart Hub with 2 XL motors and 1 L motor for a more immersive play experience, authentic movements and hours of fun.

    Changing the gearing made this so much better for off road, I think the standard gearing is so it’s less likely to get boring being slow.

    Nice review, good to see direct comparison with 9398, and that the motors are an improvement both on the flat and when climbing (after gear change). Guessing Lego will eventually provide a more generic interface for the control +, especially as 42100 has 2 of them and 7 motors, it would be crazy not to provide people with a way to control their own MOCs.

    @RacingBrick, thank you for all your LEGO technic reviews and sharing your knowledge. My son and I enjoy watching your videos and learning more about his LEGO 4x4 x-treme off roader and Rally car. I have a question regarding the 4x4 off roader, is the forward motion of both XL motors supposed to have more inertia and speed than the reverse motion? I assume both set of gears should move in either forward or reverse action? I asked because I notice recently that the forward speed of his 4x4 seems to be slower than reverse and upon troubleshooting, I saw that the front motion of the front wheels are noticeably slower. Thanks in advance for any advice.

      @@JacobMoonsMocs I already made an adapter cable to control PF motors with the PU hub, you can check it here - th-cam.com/video/JhmnfmJ1ewA/w-d-xo.html
      I don't think it really makes sense the other way around, without the female connector you'd need to cut the wires of the motors and attach a PF connector. Since the PU motors won't have any added benefits over the PF ones without the "smart control" there's really no point of doing this.

    Great informative review. Thanks. One improvement, for me, would be to get rid of the annoying music please. I had to turn down the sound to get rid of it then you started to mention sounds from the machine and I couldn’t hear them. Also, I found I had to go back a few seconds so many times: once to read the script then rewind to watch the vision. Very annoying. Why don’t you just talk to us and drop the sub-titles? (I think sub-titles can be turned on by option anyway, so no need for your titles). Despite these things, I made it to the end of your review because if your content and quality vision. You made a lot of great points. Thanks again. Cheers, Antoine

      Glad you like the review. About the music - I cannot choose one that everyone likes, so I choose one that I like. If you don't like it simply use the mute button, easy as pie. In my newer videos I changed the subtitles and I talk, and surprisingly there are people who does not like when I talk so again, can't please everyone :)

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      During the test I used 1.2V reachargeables. With 1.5V alkalines the performance would be better initially but that quickly drops, even below the level of the rechargeables.

You can also change the gears on the old crawler just not as easy. But really I own the old one and it can't move for beans with the stock power unit. V2 receiver helps though.
