I'm really happy to say that all of my 6 horses are rescues ! One was neglected for 8 of her 11 years alive. The second was beaten and left into a field of bulls that attacked him. The third and fourth were mustangs "too feral to be adopted" (they seemed to at first, but I gave them the time of day and all of my patience and they are now the sweetest little diamonds in the rough !) so they were going to be put down. The fifth was supposed to be a racehorse, but he was "too big" and "not the right color" so the previous owners sent him to a slaughter house. The sixth was supposed to be a carriage horse, but he hated pulling and refused to do it, so he was also sent to the same slaughter house. Now they are my family and they love playing tag with each other ! :)
rescue horses are great they take more time but are worth more in the long run. My 2nd horse thunder was the only one I've had but he is a great horse. When we first got him he was as skinny as a rail and wasn't even a year old yet. It turned out the old owner had too many horses and that Thunder's mother died when he was young (she was about 37 when she had him, a miracle) he had a fear of every thing and was nicknamed twister (he would do a full reining horse 360 and buck off his rider). He is now a happy 8 year old gelding and has fathered a beautiful paint daughter named strawberry. He's still afraid of plastic bags and dead things but is a great horse none the less
May God bless the people who rescue these lovely animals. I hope the people who mistreat these animals experience the same suffering the animals did just 10x worse!
Unfortunately our world is full of good and bad...these horses have seen the bad and possibly the worst, and now they will be able to rejoice in the good that they so deserved to live in.
THANK GOODNESS YOU CAME AND SAVED THEM! I don't understand why people treat horses so horribly! All they do is work for us and try to please, it's a shame. Horses deserve so much more!
i want to join rescues like this but i am only 17 and live in Canada.. but this is amazing so glad these horses are now safe! and to the people who disliked this are horrible!
This video has inspired me! When i grow up me and all my friends are gonna rescue animals just like these amazing people! :D Everyone should take care of the animals they have if they cant take care of the animals than they should leave it for someone else to keep as a pet because other wise this would happen! and the people would have to come rescue animals over and over again.
"If you abuse animals, we will find you. We will remove those animals to safety, care for them, and prosecute YOU. Bottom line." It is 2018 now. A stronger, kinder, more actively involved group - everywhere people are speaking out, and stepping up. W are proud to be supporters of the great work of HSUS.
It's where the horses spine has become 'swayed' hence the term, by either age, or being ridden by someone too large for them or hard riding for many years. It can also occur from being frequently pregnant. It's doesn't usually debilitate the horse and horses with sway back can still be ridden, but because most are quite old when it happens, they usually just retire them.
Not long ago i saw a horse with a really bad sway back, but he was in a lovely paddock with plenty of food and plenty of love, but it is really horrible to see that some of us humans can bear to do this to such a beautiful creature.
so happy they're in a gorgeous field, rescued and on a path to wellness and love, ty to all who helped! hope the people that did this go to jail and are forbidden to ever have the privelage of any pet in their lives!
its called a sway back, it is very common with older horses, and ive been around them my whole life and i have NEVER seen something like that i am so happy that these animals have better lives now
I volunteer weekly w/ DEFHR and I am happy to tell you the one with the sway back is still in our care. Her name is Diva and she is doing great. Most of the horses are now adopted. They only two horses I recognize from the 19 that have not been adopted out (still at the farm) are the bay draft with the roman nose (the one with the wounds). His name is Ziggy. The other is the black horse wearing the green halter lead by the man from hsus. His name is Jinx. They both give pony rides to kids.
I have meet the majority of these horses from volunteering at day's end and I just can't believe how someone could leave their horses like this. Such sweet horses too!
Thank you to all who helped with this rescue. I hope all of these horses find their forever homes! Thanks HSUS for posting this video. All of your volunteers are wonderful!
This is so sad but glad they could be rescued and for all the comments on the sway backed horse it is actually very common and horses are not always bothered by it, i know a 5 year old horse who was born with a sway back because of his conformation and it has never bothered him
The owners were probably the types of people who place higher value on human life than on animal life. I don't understand how a humane person can make such a distinction! Disgraceful! Those 19 gals and guys have so much to look forward to.
These S.O.B.'s that do this to any animal deserves to be shot. How evil can people be? Some of them are so beautiful. I'm so glad they were rescued and will be taken care of properly and treated very well. God bless all those who step up to help these wonderful animals.
I am almost certain I saw this tent before it was taken down when I was younger. It is right next to RR tracks for a sample train ride the B&O museum provides, which I went on during a family day trip. So sad, I had no idea what was going on in that tent.
I knew a horse, I won't say where. He was a swayback not that bad but he was and I use to ride him. One day people stopped riding him and I guess that meant stop caring for him. His stall looked like those COVERED in crap. So after I was done there before going home to help a little. I would give his fresh water, some hay to eat, brush him, clean his hooves, I tried to clean his stall. I basically was doing everything but giving him his shots and vitamins. The place was shut down, torn down and the horses moved. I hope he went somewhere where they actually gave a shit about him. I could see his ribs when I knew him.
Horses are forgiving? Some one needs to explain that to my horse. She got in a bit of trouble one day for nipping at her pasturemate while he was trying to eat. I went to visit her the next afternoon with a pencil stuck in a spiral bound notebook, and she pulled the pencil right out, bit it in half, and spat it out on the ground. "There! What do you think of that? Tell me to keep my nose in my own bucket, why don't you."
+Catrina Alley yeah he's one of my favorites from the rescue, i actually groom him all the time :) here's a link if you see a photo of him and the other horses. www.defhr.org/adopt/meet-the-horses/
+Catrina Alley Yeah Slick has literally been my favourite since he first came in with another horse named Tonka. He's so adorable and funny along with Toby(Tobias). Quanna just recently came back, and Tonto used to be a program horse like Jinx but he had some issues with his feet. Either way there all really amazing :)
my grandpas' horse was abused.along with another horse.it was before he got him but he was in pretty bad state.at his first home, the two only got around 1 cup of grain to eat.and little hay.they were fed 1 cup of grain for them to share.they didn't get separate grain to eat.they were so skinny!then his man took them away.he had a very mare an she kicked DuDe(my grandpas' horse).so my moms friend took them.then my grandpa bought DuDe and now he is no longer skinny.
I do not understand how this went unnoticed for so long. I mean...a tent full of sick horses under a bridge, the smell alone should have tipped someone off about the abuse long before the horses suffered so long. How can anyone who has an animal working, helping that person make their living, treat them like that?
Some people will just buy horses just have them but won't know how to care for them. I've seen a horse that was just bought and then stuck into a small pen and expected to stay there for the rest of its life. Not even enough room to walk around. So sad.
Some breeds have more sway backs/more likely, older horses are generally more likely to get them, and very young horses which are worked when they dont have much muscle.
I have seen horse's in much worse conditions from seizures. These horse's are in relatively good body condition....The stable conditions were deplorable
@Lindi85 I don't know if it can be reversed but I do know the many causes of it. It can range from the horses genetics and or old age to being constantly ridden or the horse pulling more weight than they can handle and in these horses case, the vegetable carriages Arabbers make them pull.
Reminds me of the infamous amersham case at spindles farm in 2008 where there was dead foals and other dead horses all 125 were ill some had to be put to sleep because the previous owners lack of remorse on youtube type in the amersham case and there is one where you would be surprised at their lack of remorse. I HATE PEOPLE WHO DO THIS TO ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How big was the racehorse?
May God bless the people who rescue these lovely animals. I hope the people who mistreat these animals experience the same suffering the animals did just 10x worse!
Thank you for your kind words RockyCrazy100!
Your welcome. This is honestly what I think though!
they should die
Yes we should god bless these people
Unfortunately our world is full of good and bad...these horses have seen the bad and possibly the worst, and now they will be able to rejoice in the good that they so deserved to live in.
these people are walking angels and this gives me hope in humanity
Some of these horses have terrible cases of sway back
The arched back of the chestnut horse at 3:45 is horrendous
When the horses perked up to see green grass and clean stalls I knew they were excited
To see a real home
Me and my family recently rescued a ex racehorse after being neglected for 2 years in a field and he's doing grate
THANK GOODNESS YOU CAME AND SAVED THEM! I don't understand why people treat horses so horribly! All they do is work for us and try to please, it's a shame. Horses deserve so much more!
You guys inspire me to help poor animals... That's why when I'm 18 or older... I'm going to work there!!!
i want to join rescues like this but i am only 17 and live in Canada.. but this is amazing so glad these horses are now safe! and to the people who disliked this are horrible!

Bless your hearts for saving these beautiful animals!
When I grow up I want to do the same thing you do. It's so awesome to watch you guys save animals. God bless you and the animals. 😄😃😀😍
Omg who else is obsessed with horses and noticed that one of the horses backs were soooooooo arched
that isn't due to the abuse, though. that does naturally happen to horses, it's called swayback. it's when the horse gets older and the tissues soften
Im not dumb i know what it is my sister is a equine vet
Not long ago i saw a horse with a really bad sway back, but he was in a lovely paddock with plenty of food and plenty of love, but it is really horrible to see that some of us humans can bear to do this to such a beautiful creature.

Saviours of animals in need hold a special place in my heart. Thank you, HSUS, BHD, and DAYS END FARM.
And still, after all they have known from humans, they are well behaved, loving and trusting....I'm so glad you saved them!
I volunteer weekly w/ DEFHR and I am happy to tell you the one with the sway back is still in our care. Her name is Diva and she is doing great. Most of the horses are now adopted. Jesus that swayback.
I am glad they kept the horses that were next to each other , together.
How could anyone treat such beautiful animals so cruelly??
Thank you to all who helped with this rescue. I hope all of these horses find their forever homes! Thanks HSUS for posting this video. All of your volunteers are wonderful!
oh my goodness! I love horses and I am so glad you rescue them! You are amazing
Omg why would any one do that to such beautiful animals. Btw horses are my favourite animals. I really appreciate what these people are doing thx
Something about black horses is so beautiful and majestic to me.
This is so sad but glad they could be rescued and for all the comments on the sway backed horse it is actually very common and horses are not always bothered by it, i know a 5 year old horse who was born with a sway back because of his conformation and it has never bothered him
That poor saddlebred with the severe sway, never say one that bad before... Thanks HSUS for saving them!
The owners were probably the types of people who place higher value on human life than on animal life. I don't understand how a humane person can make such a distinction! Disgraceful! Those 19 gals and guys have so much to look forward to.

Hallo! Bedankt voor het kijken en het ondersteunen van onze zaak!
3:15 such a beautiful horse
These S.O.B.'s that do this to any animal deserves to be shot. How evil can people be? Some of them are so beautiful. I'm so glad they were rescued and will be taken care of properly and treated very well. God bless all those who step up to help these wonderful animals.
the bad thing about this is that people who abuse animals are likely to abuse people as well...it's a sad fact
To all the people talking about the horse with the sway back. She is still alive and well at DEFHR, her name is Diva. :)
Thank you.
the black one in the green halter is so beautiful
i love your job....your guyz are the best
Hey! Why can't we just put the owner in the stalls for 24 hours straight every single day and see how they like it?
I absolutely love horses, I have my own horse named Cody
What an adorable Haflinger... : (
There are some beautiful horses
I am almost certain I saw this tent before it was taken down when I was younger. It is right next to RR tracks for a sample train ride the B&O museum provides, which I went on during a family day trip. So sad, I had no idea what was going on in that tent.
If I could stop all horse neglect, every horse would be happier. At least we can make a difference, right?
its so sad to see such beautifull animals in so bad conditions
I knew a horse, I won't say where. He was a swayback not that bad but he was and I use to ride him. One day people stopped riding him and I guess that meant stop caring for him. +Liz Wolf Should have stole him one night.
Abuse of animals makes me sick, and so do the heartless sociopaths who do the abusing. I hope God deals with them and harshly.
I'm glad they are going to a place were they will receive excellent care though.
Days End Farm Horse Rescue: you guys rock :D
WHo would do such a thing?! And they were all so beautiful!
Good bless u all
The horses ears are in front which means they're happy :')
damn the people that would do that to horses god bless the people that care about lives of things that dont speak our language
Last one is gorgeous
BEAUTIFUL Bay at 2:25!
Horses are forgiving? Some one needs to explain that to my horse. She got in a bit of trouble one day for nipping at her pasturemate while he was trying to eat. ***** I know! She didn't even eat the pencil, just snapped it in half out of spite. Grumpy little bugger.
Lol sounds like your horse has quite the attitude xD
Lol your horse is moody
Just heart breaking.
Amazing People!
A sway back is when a horses' back starts to dip which can happen if it's been carrying a rider that's to big for it for a long period of time.
that black horse is so beautiful. do you guys still have one of theses horses?
A few of the horses are still at the rescue. The black one(Jinx) is still there as a program horse :)
really :D
+Catrina Alley yeah he's one of my favorites from the rescue, i actually groom him all the time :) here's a link if you see a photo of him and the other horses.
www.defhr.org/adopt/meet-the-horses/
wow Quanah, Tobias, Tonto, and Slick are beautiful
+Catrina Alley Yeah Slick has literally been my favourite since he first came in with another horse named Tonka. He's so adorable and funny along with Toby(Tobias). Quanna just recently came back, and Tonto used to be a program horse like Jinx but he had some issues with his feet. Either way there all really amazing :)
People like this will get theirs in the end.
This horse at 2:41 is ridiculously skinny. Was he/she okay?
this is terrible, horses should not be neglected or any animal as they are a massive responsibility so if you want a horse keep it well looked after
One small request plz rescue the baby calf
my grandpas' horse was abused.along with another horse.it was before he got him but he was in pretty bad state.at his first home, the two only got around 1 cup of grain to eat.and little hay.they were fed 1 cup of grain for them to share.they didn't get separate grain to eat.they were so skinny!then his man took them away.he had a very mare an she kicked DuDe(my grandpas' horse).so my moms friend took them.then my grandpa bought DuDe and now he is no longer skinny.

How can anyone who has an animal working, helping that person make their living, treat them like that?
I know very little about horses, how do horses get sway back? Is it an issue of being overworked or not cared for properly?
humans can get sway backs too, tends to be more common in older horses.
Some people will just buy horses just have them but won't know how to care for them. I've seen a horse that was just bought and then stuck into a small pen and expected to stay there for the rest of its life. Not even enough room to walk around. So sad.
It is great you can see their ears forward as they are leaving the hell
At least we can make a difference.
Some breeds have more sway backs/more likely, older horses are generally more likely to get them, and very young horses which are worked when they dont have much muscle.
the black horse is really pretty
I could never do this. i would die from sadness
@XxcarismaxX96 my question is can anything be done to correct that? that's got to be hurting that horse
I know right i want to help to, not only with the horses but with the dogs and cats and whatever other animals they have
There should be heaps of Volunteering shelters where you live; I wanna volunteer at the RSPCA or a horsey rescue
Volunteer in your local area? There are always people needing help with animals.
You can always find some other rescues to work at every little thing helps!
what is sway back? i mean, what happens to the back and stuff?
Are they for sale? And what part of Connecticut are you in?
Id like to volunteer so bad but I live in a different country ;_;
OMG that horse at 2:37 has such bad sway back, that horse has been ruined by horrible people:(
I hope it finds a nice home
Oh my! I don't know much about horse, what causes a sway back like that? and can it be reversed? :(
you can volonteer on your local animal rescue shelter
