As for Avalanche Kaito I also didn't know anything about it but loved it on first listen. Mesmerizing. Thanks for sharing it all with us.
I haven’t kept up with a ton of new releases this year (been really busy listening to a ton of older bands, back catalogues and shit like that) but I do have to say there has been a few albums I was absolutely stoked for and really enjoyed. My personal album of the year was easily Les Chants de L’Aurore by Alcest as they’ve been a favorite band of mine ever since discovering them a little while after they released Spiritual Instinct. Originally I bought it day one on vinyl and didn’t listen to it until my copy arrived and while I enjoyed it I didn’t get insanely invested in it like I expected. Fast forward a few weeks later and I played it again and I absolutely fell in love with the album. Right behind that for me is Cometh the Storm by High on Fire. Just an absolute beast of an album by Matt Pike and I love it a lot. Eg Er Framand by Sylvaine was a great listen as well. I believe she has possibly my favorite female voice in metal and I love how she has a similar style to Alcest while also having her own vibe and feeling that I find distinctly removed from how Neige and WinterHalter usually make me feel. Todbringerin by Ellende was also an enjoyable listen to me and I’m really glad I discovered them this year when I was doing a massive search for different bands and artists to listen to. Horizon Dancing Below by N.T.T. FxxKS was one of my favorite shoegaze releases this year and I came across them completely by chance after looking for new things to listen to. Bellum II by Aquilus was an album I discovered when I was trying to find more bands with a similar folk/black metal style like Windir, Agalloch, Gallowbraid, Obsequiae, Ifing, Caladan Brood etc. and I really enjoyed it a lot. You Were Also a Dandelion by Delayed Minds was another shoegaze album I really enjoyed for many of the same reasons I enjoyed Horizon. Darkroom by Ghostly Kisses was another album I came across and really enjoyed. Definitely a solid album and I find myself returning to the songs fairly often. Fathom by Àsa was a really interesting post-rock EP I really enjoyed a lot after stumbling across it. I’ll definitely be watching out for any other releases from them as I loved the songs. Silent Running by 65daysofstatic was another fantastic addition to their post rock discography. Turiya by A Collective Subconscious was another fantastic post rock release I really enjoyed a lot. Other than that I mostly worked on expanding my musical intake as I was starting to get tired of listening to a lot of the same artists over and over again. In that regard I definitely succeeded as I found a ton of great stuff but most of it wasn’t from this year.
Thanx for the list. Your number one keeps me confident for the future. We need more quality, we need more personality(originality) and we need more honesty.
I've been following this channel for some time over a year now, and I have literally dozens of bands you've recommended in my list that I still need to check out. You have a special knack for not only knowing really good music but making it seem like the most important thing ever, and you've basically become my source for great bands and artists as I've been getting more into heavy and experimental music. This list seemed well put together and I'm excited to hear some of these for the first time 🤘
Thus far, "Eiger" by Aara is my album of the year but we'll see how my opinion shifts when "Aperatures" by An Axis of Perdition drops publicly. Glad to see them back to be honest, I didn't think they'd drop a whole new album in 2024.
Very interesting list, full of things to explore ! This, instead, is my TOP 25: 25 - Coffins - Sinister Oath 24 - Charli XCX - Brat 23 - Departure Chandelier - Satan Soldier of Fortune 22 - Caligula 031 & Taeter - Escalation 21 - Brodequin - Harbinger of Woe 20 - Fistfun - Up the Rolls 19 - Primitive Warfare - Extinction Protocol 18 - Makt - Makt 17 - Willie Nelson - The Border 16 - A Monumental Black Statue - The Touch of the Moon with the Golden Veil 15 - Commando 15 - Inner Insurgency Manual 14 - Mgla - Torn Aether : Live Recordings 2013 - 2022 13 - Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats - Nell’ ora Blu 12 - Grunt/Bizarre Uproar - Toinen Iho 11 - Feketefagy - Kaosz 10 - TourDeForce - Hail the Electronic Sun 9 - Ufomammuth - Hidden 8 - Band-Maid - Epic Narratives 7 - North Central - Dark and Abusive 6 - Satanic Warmaster - Exultation of Cruelty 5 - The The - Ensoulement 4 - Snuff - V 3 - Boslide - Del Fare di Sartre la Nostra Puttana 2 - Sutcliffe No More - Campaign 2024 1 - Fleshpress - Viimeinen Saavuettu Tahto
Here is my favorite 25 albums of the year. 25. The Black Dahlia Murder - Servitude 24. Deceased - Children of the Morgue 23. Pyrrhon - Exhaust 22. Inter Arma - New Heaven 21. Brodequin - Harbinger of Woe 20. Dark Tranquillity - Endtime Signals 19. Borknagar - Fall 18. Necrophobic - In the Twilight Grey 17. Hideous Divinity - Unextinct 16. Mitochondrion - Vitriseptome 15. Alcest - Les Chants de l’Aurore 9. Thou - Umbilical 8. Nile - The Underworld Awaits Us All 7. Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God 6. Crypt Sermon - The Stygian Rose 5. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere 4. Oranssi Pazuzu - Muuntautuja 3. Opeth - The Last Will and Testament 2. Job for a Cowboy - Moon Healer 1. Judas Priest - Invincible Shield
I had never heard of Painkiller before today. I am glad that changed. One track in and I already adore it. Using that fairly standard backbeat as a canvas to just absolutely spazz out on the sax in every way imaginable. Absolutely unhinged in the best way
Very happy to see the new Mitochondrion release making it in so many lists. Absolute blast of an album. Also happy to have discovered Yemen Civil Servant from this video, absolutely love Vatican Shadow and Muslimgauze. Can't get enough of that aesthetic so it's always nice to hear more music like them.
Great list. Really intrigued by your No 1. Also didn’t know about the Painkiller album. I’ve been going through early Zorn stuff now that his catalog is on Apple Music. My favorite non-metal of the year is Brendan Byrnes with his Transfigured Earth I & II EPs. Microtonal dream pop/rock that I learned about from the Make Weird Music YT channel.
The most unique countdown I've seen so far, bravo! I also picked Mamaleek, Oranssi Pazuzu, Avalanche Kaito (it appears Kaito and his brother Simon Winse were born in Burkina Faso), Tristwch Y Fenywod and Norna. I'll focuse on a few things you might like that you haven't come across yet. You liked Ghostly Kisses, so you may be open to The Narcotix: Brooklyn band’s debut is a master class in polyrhythmic vocal innovation and beauty. Citing influences like African wedding music, neoclassical symphonies, Afrobeat, Kofi Olomide, and Warpaint, their first EP was an extension of the shapeshifting, ethereal music of Raincoats’ Odyshape (1981), Lizzy Mercier Descloux’s global post-punk fusion on Mambo Nassau (1981), and The Slits circa Return of the Giant Slits (1981) where they fuse their dub roots with skewed African rhythms. The full-length is not much longer, but it packs a lot in, including lushly layered arrangements weaving Siera Leonean Adam Turay’s beautifully abstract guitar shapes and 12/8 polyrhythms. The dense but dreamy production recalls peak Kate Bush. But where they really push things forward is their vocals, which careen through French, Spanish, and wordless yodels, whatever it takes for Quansah’s and Foinchas’ voices to express their spiritual and existential meditations. Check out the emotional range they project with just “la la la” on “The Maiden.” This is one area where Western music has played it very safe and conservative the past couple decades. I have to go back to Sheila Chandra’s ABoneCroneDrone (1996), Sussan Deyhim’s Madman of God: Divine Love Songs of the Persian Sufi Masters (2000), and Björk on Medúlla (2004) to find equally adventurous use of vocals in pop music. Psychedelic Soul | Art Rock | Trip Jam | Global | Afrobeat. RIYL: Raincoats, The Slits, Kate Bush, Sheila Chandra, Björk, Warpaint, Peluché, Nightshift, Goat Girl. Fester's Lucky 13 1. The Narcotix - Dying 2. The Other Sun - Daimon, Devil, Dawn 3. Julie Christmas - Ridiculous and Full of Blood 4. Bent Knee - Twenty Pills Without Water 5. Oneida - Expensive Air 6. Smoke Bellow - Structurally Sound 7. Water Damage - In E 8. Bingo Fury - Bats Feet for a Widow 9. Senyawa - Vajranala 10. Nightshift - Homosapien 11. Elephant9 with Terje Rypdal - Catching Fire 12. Kanaan & Ævestaden - Langt, Langt Vekk 13. Dool - The Shape of Fluidity Bubbling under: Causa Sui, New Skeletal Faces, The Janitors, Moin, Chelsea Wolfe, Still House Plants, Brume.
Sweet list! I need to check out some of these. A few of my favorites from 24: Bedsore - Dreaming the Strife for Love Toxaemia - Rejected Souls of Kerberus Black Curse - Burning in Celestial Poison Immortal Bird - Sin Querencia Necrophobic - In the Twilight Grey Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God Blessing of Despair - Devenial Verdict God Dethroned - The Judas Paradox Dark Tranquillity - Endtime Signals
I would say my top 5 1. Iotunn - Kinship 2. Cistvaen - At Light's Demise 3. Panzerfaust - The Suns of Perdition - Chapter IV: To Shadow Zion 4. Thy Catafalque - XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek 5. Yoth Iria - Blazing Inferno and of course Blood Incantation was awesome, Ulcerate and Opeth also surprised me.
I cannot overstate how thrilled I am to have run across this list. I have always appreciated noise rock and unique sonic architecture but have fallen out of touch with current music. Your tastes seem to mesh with mine and I really appreciate you bringing so many great bands to my attention. Also crazy that Einsturzende Neubauten are still going. Accidentally seeing them in 1987 had a lot to do with the way I interact with music.
I just saw Knoll on Devestation of the Nation. I love how they call themselves Funeral Grind. I'm new to Chelsea Wolfe still, thanks to Killbot and gorgor attack, but these are all great albums I hope to grab in my journey of music collecting
Emanations of Unconscious Luminescence by Theurgy is probably my favorite. I have followed them since their first demo, but this full-length was entirely unexpected and absolutely mental.
1. Anastasia Kobekina - Venice 2. Ghostly kisses - Darkroom 3. Alcest - Les Chants de l'Aurore 4. Opeth - The Last Will And Testament 5. Blood incantation - Absolute Elsewhere 6. Djevel - Natt Til Ende 7. Aquilus - Bellum II 8. Paysage d'Hiver - Die Berge 9. Akhlys - House of the Black Geminus 10. The cure - Songs of a Lost World
Man if I heard this Ungfell release before I heard the debut I might have liked them... That debut was so shameless in its mimicry I was too nauseated to digest a single riff.
Endon being here is no surprise. I hope if they tour again that they come to Australia. I’d love to see them live. Although, since the passing of one of their band members, I have my doubts.. may he rest in peace
Hauntology make me think of furia and kall, but i do get that urban nauseating aspect you were referring with lifelover. But great list, cheers to share!
I must admit I didn't dig most of these albums, however did appreciate most of it as an artistic endeavor. However, I will probably listen to Ka and I will most definitely listen to Norna. That shit slaps.
Don't have a numbered list finished yet, but the ones that are pretty much guaranteed to be in the top tier: Blood Incantation- Absolute Elsewhere, Paysage Dhiver- Bie Berge, Gonemage- Spell Piercings, Lust Hag- S/t, WIntersun- Time II, and Judas Priest- Invincible Shield
Chelsea Wolfe's album is my favorite of the year. It might not be as heavy or in your face as Abyss or Hiss Spun but it has haunting elements that can only be crafted in its electronic simplicity. Also, Pixel Grip. Gate Creeper's new album isn't bad either.
My personal Top 10 list: #1: Crucifyer: Led Astray #2: Paysage D’Hiver- Die Berge #3: Auld Ridge- For Death and Glory, To The Gods I Cry #4: Vemod- The Deepening #5: Brodequin- Harbinger of Woe #6: Spectral Voice- Sparagmos #7: Defeated Sanity- Chronicles of Lunacy #8: Pallbearer- Minds Burn Alive #9: Nahtrunar- Hirima #10: Verberis- The Apophatic Wilderness
Cuntroaches finally put a full-length out?! HELL YEAH. Shocked I didn't hear about this earlier. Absolutely adored their early blackened hardcore stuff.
Long time no watch, Wyatt! Been checking out some of the year-end lists from some channels I used to be subscribed to and I remembered yours. Good to see you’re still talking about music on TH-cam-regardless of my personal opinions about *certain* artists you have chosen to talk about over the years.
Always looking forward to your EOTY list even though most of the stuff isn't my taste. Had some matches this time! Really enjoyed Aluk Todolo. That Gloomy Reflections album is up there on my list as well. Will check out the rest for sure!
That Melt-Banana record is fan-fucking-tastic. Primitive Warfare is sick. I totally get the Knoll criticism, but with the new record it’s really pushing grind rn
Sick list. Surprised not to see Ingurgitating Oblivion on here. Incredible album. My top 20 1. Defeated Sanity - Chronicles of Lunacy 2. Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God 3. Mitochondrion - Vitriseptome 4. Ingurgitating Oblivion - Ontology of Nought 5. Crippling Alcoholism - With Love from a Padded Room 6. Häxenzijrkell - Portal 7. Replicant - Infinite Morality 8. Slift - Ilion 9. Abhorration - Demonolatry 10. Panzerfaust - The Suns of Predition - Chapter IV: To Shadow Zion 11. Laetitia in Holocaust - Fanciulli D’Occidente 12. Gigan - Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus 13. Mvltifission - Reborn Souls from Transcendent Agony 14. Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out to She 15. Maudissez - Maudissez 16. Mefitis - The Skorian // The Greyleer 17. Brodequin - Harbinger of Woe 18. Bedsore - Dreaming the Strife for Love 19. Rvinous Null - Labyrinthine Reaches 20. Silvaplana - Limbs of Dionysus

I love that Primitive Warfare album. Definitely my favourite war metal album of 2024, I like it more than the new Antichrist Siege Machine album.
It’s definitely more abrasive and harsh but I also dig the more goovey war metal approch of ASM's new Album.
Primitive Warfare rips, them and Concrete Winds made exceptionally violent records

Thus far, "Eiger" by Aara is my album of the year but we'll see how my opinion shifts when "Aperatures" by An Axis of Perdition drops publicly. Glad to see them back to be honest, I didn't think they'd drop a whole new album in 2024.
Will have to check some of those out, not heard some of them, great video.
There were some pretty solid releases, but for the most part I'd say my number 1 is by Crypt Sermon, They Stygian Rose.

Still getting off the floor from your number 1. 😊
Man you are going to love Kvadrat- the Horrible Dissonance of Oblivion.
I had never heard of Painkiller before today. I am glad that changed. One track in and I already adore it. Using that fairly standard backbeat as a canvas to just absolutely spazz out on the sax in every way imaginable. Absolutely unhinged in the best way
Now this is an actual list. I will be checking all of these.
Thank you man. Happy 2025.
Very happy to see the new Mitochondrion release making it in so many lists. Absolute blast of an album. Also happy to have discovered Yemen Civil Servant from this video, absolutely love Vatican Shadow and Muslimgauze. Can't get enough of that aesthetic so it's always nice to hear more music like them.
you are the new Coverkiller nation
What a diverse list... got a lot to check out here. For me Nile's The Underworld Awaits us All was my favorite if this year
Super sick list. Knoll album is fenomenal
Just discovered your channel. VERY interesting picks, thank you!
Nice recommendations, thanks
The most unique countdown I've seen so far, bravo! I also picked Mamaleek, Oranssi Pazuzu, Avalanche Kaito (it appears Kaito and his brother Simon Winse were born in Burkina Faso), Tristwch Y Fenywod and Norna. I'll focuse on a few things you might like that you haven't come across yet. You liked Ghostly Kisses, so you may be open to The Narcotix:
Brooklyn band’s debut is a master class in polyrhythmic vocal innovation and beauty.
Fester's Lucky 13
1. The Narcotix - Dying
2. The Other Sun - Daimon, Devil, Dawn

6. Smoke Bellow - Structurally Sound
7. Water Damage - In E
8. Bingo Fury - Bats Feet for a Widow
9. Senyawa - Vajranala
10. Nightshift - Homosapien
11. Elephant9 with Terje Rypdal - Catching Fire
12. Kanaan & Ævestaden - Langt, Langt Vekk
13. Dool - The Shape of Fluidity
Bubbling under: Causa Sui, New Skeletal Faces, The Janitors, Moin, Chelsea Wolfe, Still House Plants, Brume.

I'm surprised Nimbifer didn't end up on your list given how much you loved it
I own the record and I enjoy it to the point id say its a good record but just not "list worthy"
@ completely understandable, thanks for informing me
What a glorious list 😊
The avalanche kaito album is also my No1 for this year ❤ 1:21
I would say my top 5

3. Panzerfaust - The Suns of Perdition - Chapter IV: To Shadow Zion
4. Thy Catafalque - XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek
5. Yoth Iria - Blazing Inferno
and of course Blood Incantation was awesome, Ulcerate and Opeth also surprised me.
I appreciate your take dude.
Avalanche Kaito also my favourite of last year, had it on repeat for a month after first listen, wow!
Glad to see Primitive Warfare on your list ! Man this album is amazing.
Did not expect to see Ghostly Kisses here! Good job man!
1. Anastasia Kobekina - Venice
2. Ghostly kisses - Darkroom
3. Alcest - Les Chants de l'Aurore
4. Opeth - The Last Will And Testament
5. Blood incantation - Absolute Elsewhere
6. Djevel - Natt Til Ende
7. Aquilus - Bellum II
8. Paysage d'Hiver - Die Berge
9. Akhlys - House of the Black Geminus
10. The cure - Songs of a Lost World
The Hauntologist record was sooo good! Caught me off guard.
Brodequin was my number 1. Chat Pile close second. Great year for music!
Some of mine that aren't mentioned here:
Iron Monkey - Goad and Spleen
Coffins - Sinister Oath
Sabbat - Sabbsticult
High on Fire - Cometh the Storm
Coffins is awesome saw them live last month
Would be cool to see you do a video on most anticipated new albums for 2025.
Solid list as always brother. Plenty of stuff on here for me to check out. LOVE the Brodequin album, so catchy and dances with epicness too.
Thx for giving Markgraf a spot!
Also: FLYING MAUSOLEUM GANG KEEPS GROWING
I just missed the mention of the new Ulcerate album. Some of the greatest dissonant riffs and one unimaginable spot between black and death metal
Hauntology make me think of furia and kall, but i do get that urban nauseating aspect you were referring with lifelover. But great list, cheers to share!
Yass, lots of new stuff to check out
Last year, you introduced me to House of Harm. This year, Knoll. Thanks man.
I got the Endor and the Tristwch Y Fenywod albums today. Just finished listening to Tristwch album and I am f*kkin’ blown away..
I must admit I didn't dig most of these albums, however did appreciate most of it as an artistic endeavor.
However, I will probably listen to Ka and I will most definitely listen to Norna. That shit slaps.
Thanks for recommendations
Nice to see Morgue Breath getting some love. One of my faves of the year and it just came out!
Lots of great and unique picks! One of my favorites from this year was definitely new album by Deus Mortem.
My personal Top 10 list:
#1: Crucifyer: Led Astray
#2: Paysage D’Hiver- Die Berge
#3: Auld Ridge- For Death and Glory, To The Gods I Cry
#4: Vemod- The Deepening
#5: Brodequin- Harbinger of Woe
#6: Spectral Voice- Sparagmos
#7: Defeated Sanity- Chronicles of Lunacy
#8: Pallbearer- Minds Burn Alive
#9: Nahtrunar- Hirima
#10: Verberis- The Apophatic Wilderness
My favorite albums this year were the new unto others album another great record from them. Molchat doma and everything tales under the oak put out
Cuntroaches finally put a full-length out?! HELL YEAH. Shocked I didn't hear about this earlier. Absolutely adored their early blackened hardcore stuff.
You may check out UMNA I : Mistaken by the hegemonic monotheism
Long time no watch, Wyatt! Been checking out some of the year-end lists from some channels I used to be subscribed to and I remembered yours. Good to see you’re still talking about music on TH-cam-regardless of my personal opinions about *certain* artists you have chosen to talk about over the years.
Always looking forward to your EOTY list even though most of the stuff isn't my taste. Had some matches this time! Really enjoyed Aluk Todolo. That Gloomy Reflections album is up there on my list as well. Will check out the rest for sure!
I found myself going back to Concrete Winds' new record the most this year
Absolutely sick album
The kids got passion and awesome taste in music and I’m McLovin it 🍔🍟🤘🏻
That Melt-Banana record is fan-fucking-tastic. Primitive Warfare is sick. I totally get the Knoll criticism, but with the new record it’s really pushing grind rn
Honestly surprised Antichrist Siege Machine isn’t in here with primitive warfare. But Primitive warfare is sick
Sick list. Surprised not to see Ingurgitating Oblivion on here. Incredible album.

Ungfell definitely my favorite black metal release this year
