Thank you for another wonderful video! I look forward to trying this recipe myself. Great singing, what is the name of the song? It is very haunting. Regards from South Wales.
Greetings. To my best understanding, it is from the Havamal ... words of the High One. Norwegian Døyr fe, døyr frender Døyr sjølv det sama men ordet om deg aldreg døyr vinn du et gjetord gjevt Døyr fe, døyr frender Døyr sjølv det sama Eg veit et som aldreg døyr dom om daudan kvar English Cattle die, kinsmen die, the self must also die; but glory never dies, for the man who is able to achieve it. Thank you Luigi Monty Basiletti. Yes, it is from Hávamál, stanza 76-77, Deyr fé, deyja frændr, as AncestralBliss said. "Viking funeral song". Stay safe.
I think it would be really helpful/interesting, if you guys came up with a weekly food plan (mid day meal, snacks, evening meal kind of thing) of Viking food, but all things we could buy at the average grocery store. Don't know if you have time, or would be so inclined, but thought I'd throw it out there. :-) I believe our bodies would be healthier if we ate more like this age of Ancestor.
I agree, that would be very interesting. I would also like to see what provisions they carry on a long journey, and how they preserve food for long periods. Personally, I recommend the book "Eat like a Viking" by Craig Brooks. I have found it extremely helpful.
Thank you very much for ideas. I have plans for such a things. And also for food preservation. For now I use the book Early Meal, and some online recipes, but I will check your book for sure, I heard about it already.
Absolutely amazing (as usual). I love how your videos are all family friendly. Our eight year old daughter enjoys watching with me and then we try to cook whatever you cook. Thank you.
Thank you very much Matt. It is so nice to hear that you are watching and cooking this with your daughter. It means a lot. Wish you and your family all the best.
Hi, great videos, keep em coming. Can you plz tell me where I can buy one of the pots that you cook in? Im from Australia, but Im guessing I have to get one from Europe?
Thank you Nick. Yes, the cooking pot was bought in EU, Czech at Šermířska Burza. You can find some stuff online or just go to your local blacksmith. That one that we are constantly using is pretty simple to make. Stay safe.
@@RavensOfAsgard Thanks for the tip. I googled blacksmiths, and came across a site that sells this and other medieval viking gear. And, believe it or not, they are located right here in Brisbane where I live!
Agreed, as well. I can't help but believe, if we were to return to eating food similar to what our Ancestors ate for so long, it would improve our health.
@@theblissfullone Sounds fair to me. A diet that involves some meat and more vegetables or fruits would probably do best for us than what we eat today.
I really liked the story part and the atmosphere from the very beginning. Great way to differentiate from other (viking)cooking channels. And yeah, thumbs up for the singing :)
great video! so glad to see a receipe for one of my favorite soups. will be trying this soon! your friend will be better in no time eating that soup! love your dog. take care friends and waiting for the next video!
Thank you very much Sherry Daniels. I am already fine😉 The onion soup is a test, to see if there is a wounded stomach. If you can smell the broth trough the wound, it means the stomach wall was cut, signaling that the man won't survive his wounds. Stay safe friend.
The leather canteen is the best way to carry water. For stuff like wine, ale or oil I prefer ceramic vessel, but they are so easy to broke, so we wrap it up in a wool or some clothes during hikes. Small wooden barrels are also acceptable but they have to be full all the time otherwise they start leaking.

It is not so easy as it seems. The shaft is made from hard oak wood and it has strips of iron for reiforcement. But still, I broke some shafts in my life so it is possible. Stay safe.
