  • Out on Canada's West Coast is the city of Victoria. It's the capital of the province of British Columbia but sometimes gets overshadowed by the bigger nearby city of Vancouver. But because Victoria is on an island, Vancouver Island, it gives you great access to the water, amazing coastal views, and other incredible Canadian nature.
    In this video, I'll tell you all of the amazing things you can see and do on a trip to Victoria. In the city, there is the fantastic Inner Harbor, Empress Hotel, British Columbia Parliament Buildings, Knowledge Totem Pole, Ogden Point Breakwater, Fisherman's Wharf, Victoria's Chinatown, a float plane airport, and Craigdarroch Castle. Getting out to nature, there are whale watching tours, Esquimalt Lagoon, Sooke Potholes, Whiffin Spit Park, and Salt Spring Island. It's such a great mixture of a medium-sized city with some amazing nature, so I definitely think you should check it out!

    Greetings. My wife and I spent an incredible week visiting and exploring this gorgeous city in 2003. Were were enchanted by its quaintness but also gorgeous cosmopolitan vibe. We lived in Pasadena, California, an incredible old money city next to Los Angeles and fell in love with the city. Simply chilled and fantastic for calm but also chic.

    I was just searching the safest place in the world.Was searching a place with sea and green land with natural springs a place miles away from Asia Africa Europe Russia and with the benefit of Canada hiding U.S I came at the conclusion that Victoria is my pick. Actually can't wait to visit the whole British Columbia .Definitely I'm gonna buy a house there someday.

    For those concerned bout the smog @6:14, don't worry that's not a common feature. This was filmed in the summer of 2019 and the smoke from BC wildfires had wafted over from the mainland. Usually you can see as far as Mt Baker depending on the weather (some 200km away). That being said it rains alot out here lol

    I'd like to visit Victoria, B.C. If I do, how many days should I plan for? Considering I will mostly be on foot touring the town.

    • @FirsthandGlobetrotting
      @FirsthandGlobetrotting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will mostly depend on how much you want to see and do while you are there. The downtown is very compact and walkable, and you could easily see most areas near downtown (Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, harbor, the breakwater) in a day. If you plan to go into into any museums or attractions, then you'd want at least another day, plus more time if you plan to take a Whale Watching cruise or go to any of the nature places further out of town.

    A really good video until the very end when you said it was a nice little city but it had no famous big attractions. I know you did not go there, but you must have heard about Butchart Gardens?

    • @FirsthandGlobetrotting
      @FirsthandGlobetrotting  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, I had never heard about it before I went. Once I got there I certainly saw a lot of advertising for it and many people recommended it. But as someone who doesn't live in BC or Canada, it wasn't a place I had heard of or that anyone I told about my trip knew about.

    • @brentwoodbay
      @brentwoodbay 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FirsthandGlobetrotting That was my point! I would not expect everyone to have heard about the Gardens before you got here, but as you said, you certainly did when you got here. So you were here and heard about them, that's why I was surprised why you said you didn't know about them in your review?

    • @FirsthandGlobetrotting
      @FirsthandGlobetrotting  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't remember mentioning the Gardens in my video. In the video I just stuck with places I went to myself but hopefully next time I'll get a chance to go to Butchart Gardens if I'm lucky enough to go back.

    • @kiwisaladcortez4593
      @kiwisaladcortez4593 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brentwoodbay I think that's his point. It isn't talk about or advertised when planning a trip, meaning it isn't a major attraction. But it certainly should be! I wish it was advertised on websites when searching for things to do. I also didn't find it when I was researching until I was there.

    • @scallywag6768
      @scallywag6768 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I grew up close to Buchart's Gardens during the 60s. It was advertised as World Famous attraction then. I haven't noticed any advertising for a very long time but at the same time I don't believe they are short of visitors. Bus loads of visitors every day to my knowledge, especially during summer months. Still a spectacular display during winter. I'm sure covid is having an impact this year though.

    Hate to be the party pooper, but every time I look at videos about Victoria the more I think it’s really nothing special or extraordinary. Looks pretty much like an average place, with a handful of one-time touristy things to do. I think the only real plus about Victoria is that it has milder winters compared to the rest of Canada. Aside from that, nothing major.

    • @FirsthandGlobetrotting
      @FirsthandGlobetrotting  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I found the touristy things to be OK but the real selling feature was all of the amazing nature that was nearby. If someone was going just to see the city I don't think they'd have as much fun as if they went to all the great places around it.
