My best friend growing was a Rod Buster named Aaron I was just a kid and he lived next door to us. Every kid in the neighborhood loved this guy. He was a gentle giant that always had time for kids. He would sit and talk with you all day. Great guy.
Gobbersmack a lot of them are actually a holes lol. Cool looking from the outside in but from the inside out it’s like prison rules you can’t even imagine I hated going to work everyday it wasn’t the work it was be people and never knowing if you where going to have to fist fight someone that day or just get bulldozed and be the bitch that gets stuck doing all the work.
BUT THEY DIDNT GO TO COLLEGE THAT MEANS THEY ARE DUMB AND WILL AMOUNT TO NOTHING IN LIFE! I MAY WORK AT STARBUCKS FOR $13/HOUR, BUT I GOT MY COMMUNICATIONS DEGREE SO I AM GENIUS. /s
I moved recently to one of the most feminist countries in the world - Denmark, and I've met three women working rebar and concrete. I never met any in much bigger UK and Germany.
Out of all the Ironworkers jobs (reinforcement, structural, ornamental) this one (reinforcement) is the most physically demanding by far. Once I got the hang of it I actually kind of enjoyed it despite the demand it has on you mentally and physically. I did it when I turned 18 years old and worked on the First Interstate building in Los Angeles as well as multiple interstate roadway bridge decks the latter of which will have you wiped out at the end of each and every day. I put on several pounds of muscle after the first couple of months. It's literally like lifting weights all day at high intensity in the gym. At one point I considered it as a career but a rude awakening for me was the layoffs. They were frequent and I didn't like the idea of having large gaps in the calendar year of having to rely on unemployment benefits. This is very common and what ultimately made me say, "to hell with this work I'm going to college to get a four-year degree". I haven't looked back since. All in all it was a pretty rewarding experience equivalent to going through the boot camp of one of the armed forces and when I decided to go to college that experience made me study harder. It teaches you discipline and perseverance to keep going at your chosen endeavor no matter how exhausted you get. :-) Another reason why it made me work so hard in college, to be completely honest, I didn't like the idea of working my arse off to near death exhaustion and then getting laid off for a couple of months during the slow period. It just didn't seem worth it at times having to do extreme budgeting to make ends meet. When I got to college that experience made me choose a field of study that was in demand and paid a lot of money after graduating without having to break my back in the process. In a nutshell, I was thinking that if I received a college education I wouldn't have to go back to being a "rod buster" . I was right. :-)
he wasn't lifting 260 lbs himself it was split up between both of them so it was more like 130, but still that's a lot of weight and trying to walk on a raised ground with meshed rebar to walk on is still quite difficult.
Been a Rodbuster for 25 years.Started when I was 24 years old.Got started late in the craft.Have 11years structural. But being a Rodbusting is my trade & I WILL NOT yrade it for an office job.Been a GF,forman even a super with my own ACed office but I always go back to my rods.I still have & use my original Rodbelt & my Ideal reel.Don't make those anymore.Got my belt, reel,Klein holster from a fellow Rodbuster. My reel is busted but I still use it.I have 3 brand new Klein reels still in the boxes they came in but I just can't seem to part with my Ideal reel.Had the new reel for 5,10 &15 or so years & will probably never use any of them.Hope my grandson will be an Ironworker tho I would not want him to have to bust rods except for the love of the craft.I never weighed more than 160lbs.& still don't.I am getting old now (51) & slowing down. Can't carry as much rods like in the past nor tie as fast (42 snaps to the minute was my speed)as I used to it hurts to bend over more now but I will still outwork these young bucks just coming up in the trade.Worked non union & union.STAY SAFE BROTHERS.GOD BLESS & ROD BLESS ALL OF YOU!Remember,HRADACHE!Always look up & look out for each other!
I like how at 1:14 the froofy-assed host seemed surprised that the ironworker started when he was 18 years old. When this announcer guy was 18 years old, he was still in school practicing his masturbation skills; and couldn't imagine doing actual work; especially doing some work that would develop callouses and give him rough hands
I started tying rebar in nyc when i was 19.Just about to finish my apprenticeship now. That architect got one hell of a fucking reality check when he was lumping steel with the rodbuster. Proud Local 46 Lather
I used to live in Chicago but now I live in Dallas and work construction and I also reinforce rebar and tire rebar cages. Does anyone here belong to iron workers union in Chicago I'd love to move back and work in reinforcing rebar. Also do these guys also have to be concrete finishers?
In Norway we use Knipex and do a knot in half the time. If you use gloves when its warmer than minus 10 deg C you are a chiken!😂 Size of bar is in millimeters. 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 and 32 mm.
Tropheus id honestly go to school for something else it wouldnt surprise me that they screw us out of a good portion of our pension eventually where are you ? if i cant convince you to get into something else if i were you id workout lifting weights a bit to keep your strength up because as you get older it can get a bit tougher on the body and try to become a fast tyer you wont have to punk iron as much if they see you tie fast it worked for me and although i never wanted to run work it might be beneficial to only in the sense that when work gets slow you might still be working because your a foreman oh and if your young just getting in work as many hours as possible so you will build up your pension credits up quicker so you can retire in your early 50,s like i did and dont let anyone put you in a dangerous position be safe!
mostly but it can be a pain in the ass depending on what your doing and who your working for i worked for alot of dipshits who made the job alot harder than they needed to and i think rodbusters are about the same as finishers
I'm the fastest and best rebar IronWorker there ever was lol although I'm retired now these guys would never make it in the world I came from lol! IronWorkers Local 787 Parkersburg West by God Virginia!

Construction workers seem like the biggest bros.
Go from screaming at each other to giving high 5s and drinking a few cold ones so fast haha

Awesome work, I don't know why we don't see feminists demanding a quota of women in the construction business, they would carry that rebar much faster
Video Account hahhaha exactly I don't see them complaining about the gender inequality in the construction field lol
I moved recently to one of the most feminist countries in the world - Denmark, and I've met three women working rebar and concrete. I never met any in much bigger UK and Germany.
I've been in construction for over 15 year's,and have worked with some cool chick's.💪

He said "so follow Mark"

Get your high bud on boys!!! Lol.
iron workers are tough as naisl
30 ft #11's are 6 lb's per ft = 180 lb's....Keep it real....
What's 11 bar?
nik c it’s in 1/8’s of an in. So it be 1 3/8” in diameter
why wouldnt they use rebar hook? much more effective and quicker. in finland, hook is all you need in this work
Cause we're American! We use pliers like real men!
pffft... 10 american with pliers =3 finland man with hooks
+jonzgu17
3 finland hook 1 Mexican American either one hook or pliers U.S.A#1
If you can tie fast with pliers there is no reason for hooks, ive seen a dude with pliers beast
Pre tie a column, wall, or grade beam with those hooks pick it and fly it with the crane. Let me know how well it holds together
The best jab in the world
I got two months until I can try to get an apprenticeship.
Rookie at the front.
Rebar work gives you bleeding shoulders,Architect work gives you chronic headache, I would say do a Tump work or do nothing...
