By clearing the codes you also clear all freeze frame data and the readiness monitors & misfire counter. You should only clear the codes after you have retrieved the pids and other data and saved any codes after any repairs.
Thank you! By far the best video on this model. The instructions that come in the booklet are not very clear about when to turn on the engine vs just turn on ignition. Other than Live Data that you demonstrated, is there any other function where the engine should be running?
"OBDII" has been the standard for all manufacturers since 1996. There may be some manufacturer-specific sections that cheaper scan tools may not be able to read, but the majority of it should still work fine with your Malibu.
@@GregWellwoodThanks I figured I would ask someone first. I already own the The SC 301 purchased back in January of 2023. I have only used it on one car so far a 2000 Mercury Marquis some months ago. I already knew about OBD II being standard from 1996. I just thought there may be a cut off date this unit will actually maybe be able to handle and my wife told me when she was leaving for work this early morning her 2016 Malibu’s check engine light came on. Hoping it is something simple like possibly being the gas cap since she got gas on Wednesday and today Friday morning the Check engine light came on. We will see. Thanks again.
Do you mean you push the start button and it just starts? Try pushing it with your foot off the brake - it should allow you to go through Acc, On, and then Start. If that's what you mean.
Your quarrel appears to be in how to operate the scan tool. When I give a scan tool to my students, I say "the controls are super simple, just play with it, you'll figure it out. It does not change anything, it only looks." You got this.
I went back and watched my own video. I talk a bit about what it does, I show how it plugs in, and you're watching me operate the thing, and it was fresh out of the box so I actually had zero experience with it. Not sure where you are lost.
Ooo, I like the live data readout! THAT would be super helpful. Some code titles are so circumlocutory. The misfire count can be very helpful.
Great content! Just in need of a diagnostic scanner, the recommendation is very timely!

Some sensor tests might need it running. It will probably tell you when it need to be running.
@@GregWellwood Thank you! I'll look out for that.
I need to get one of these
Thanks Greg🥃🍺
How do you check battery and spark plugs ?
What year vehicle will this work up to? Curious if this tool will work with my 2016 Chevy Malibu.

Just like my AUTEL 319 that I've enjoyed for years and years, but yours is probably cheaper in price by now.
Can this tool reset idle speed?
No, it only "looks," it cannot "change."
What if your car key is electronic and you can’t just turn on to see the lights.

Thought the title said, "Occult SC301..."
That's in the next video. It reads the codes of your soul.
I thought it said CGSLUT, but that would just be wrong.
Anyone that strains pushing a knife while looking in the opposite direction is quite likely to produce interesting videos!
Don’t buy it or before you do try to contact customer service I’m trying so hard send numerous emails and still no response.
This is.B/S
