    How many times have I used a 3D printer and never considered that I could make a loom with it?! Fabulous job!!!

    A tip for the 3d printing if your printing from someone else's design. Print one smaller piece and see if the dowels will fit. Then scale the piece in X & Y so that the hole fits perfectly. When you have the scale, print out all of pieces at that scale and you will save yourself a lot of work.

    Always a ‘design feature’, never a mistake! Cannot wait to see you use the loom. My sister 3D printed 4 tablet cards and that took her ages. Your husband must have patience and a good printing setup. 😀😀

      There is a science to it--using the right kind of filament, the right temperature, humidity, and speed...it's a mystery to me.

    oeh, that looks FAB ! I'd love to see you weave on it. I am working on the Hallstatt 152 right now; LOVE it. Thank you so much for teaching me and everybody who wants to learn.

    I am a 3d-printer and weaver, I already have made coloured 3d-printed cards for my tablet weaving. This will be one of my next projects for sure.
    Keep healthy and keep happy

    Aah, good old percussive maintenance *BANG!* *BANG!*
    I'm using 3D printed coloured tablets my friend made me for the easy one you showed a month ago where you sort them into odds and evens (except the last one which sticks to its friend) and you turn the odds, then the evens( Cambridge Diamonds, I think?
    The tablets work OK most of the time but I think I need to round the edges or something, because a lot of them have a bit of an edge and try to catch the threads of the next card over as I turn them... not sure if it's imperfect technique or imperfect hole placement or wonky edges but I'm making it work and my friend who made them is making me more for Xmas :) (this time not numbered in runic). Also the rabbit likes to steal them.

      If the print wasn't super clean, you may have some rough edges or spurs. I used a nail file and took off some of the rough bits on mine. I'm starting to amass quite a pile now. Hubby tests his machine by printing cards because they're thin and relatively quick. I just got some in black and blaze orange.

    Might you consider marketing the plastic pieces with an assembly diagram? I can buy the dowels from the hardware store.

      That's an interesting thought. Hubby's printer is down at the moment, so it might not be anytime soon!

    What do you think of this loom after you have used it? Also, how long a warp can you put on it, using 3/2 yarns?

    • @elewysoffinchingefeld3066
      @elewysoffinchingefeld3066  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I warped it up with almost 5 yards of warp yarns, and could have added a bit more. I'll show you all in the next video.

    This loom looks great, and it's small enough i could even have one in the tiny space i live in. the only question i have is where will the built up twist go? when I flip cards to work out built up twist I get a little blip in the design, is that a thing that can be avoided when flipping cards to mitigate twist?

    • @elewysoffinchingefeld3066
      @elewysoffinchingefeld3066  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The blip is a feature, not a flaw... When the border cards change direction, there is a little lump on the edge.

    15:20 maybe its just me not wrapping my head around the 3-dimensionality, but couldn't you just turn it so all the handles are on the right instead of the left or vice versa? Not deconstructing it but turning it 180 on the table, then it would be wrapping the correct direction.

  • @jack80kiwi
    @jack80kiwi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have just made one of those for my wife to try, are there not some pieces missing ? I cannot see how you would open the warps to do the weaving.

    • @elewysoffinchingefeld3066
      @elewysoffinchingefeld3066  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are using it as a rigid heddle, you will need to print and assemble those parts. I will be using this as a tablet weaving loom and thus, do not need the rigid heddle.

  • @dashelyc

    Question ⁉️
    How well has it hold up and how much have you used it in three years?

    • @elewysoffinchingefeld3066
      @elewysoffinchingefeld3066  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I haven't used it much, to be honest. I often use an inkle loom for most of my projects.

      Next video! I'm working on it now. Purchasing....yeah, I don't think my husband wants to get in the business of printing these parts (he's in a different manufacturing business...), but there are links in the description that you can send to your favorite 3D printer owner. Aloha!

      I got a pro tip from a professional house cleaner. Shark professional vacuum. It's lightweight, bagless and *quiet*. The only thing I don't like is the hose attachment thing, which is just awkward.

    It may not be the plastic is shrinking. Dowels are not necessarily exact. The diameter can vary just enough to make your life "interesting".

    • @elewysoffinchingefeld3066
      @elewysoffinchingefeld3066  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 Love your programs. Haven't done any card weaving in years. I put the warp on my floor loom, remove the beater, push the heddles to the sides and weave away. Sure beats being tied to a door knob or the bed post!
