Wabuu: "This crossover of Phelous' running gags is sooooooooooooooo stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid." CROSSOVER INTERRUPTING BEAR 🐻 Wuschel: "What am I doing here? I don't have a catchphrase" Beauty: gasp
The thing that always confused me about this was how in the TV spot, there's a bit where kid Rick Moranis is overdubbed by an obvious adult saying "Hi, Fang!" in a kid voice, but in the movie itself, it's just the child actor. Even as a kid, that was a "What the..." moment.
Stupids not so much, Carpool? Oh yes. Arnold worked way better with David Paymer and the kids than Rick and the kids in this, and it had a way better director in Arthur Hiller. It was cheesy and more for kids but it had a bigger heart than this one and is a blast to watch. If Arnold had done just this one and Carpool I don't see his 96 being so disastrous. The Stupids really made him look bad and put his leading man run on a permanent end.
Something must have happened in the production of this movie, but I can't find anything. Miner was never great, but he had been a solid hand on films like "Forever Young" and "Wild Hearts can't be broken". He mostly did TV the rest of his career, but he was mainstream. In the abstract, it looks like any of a number of bad mid 90's comedies, like "Getting Even With Dad" or "Jingle All the Way" or "Mr. Magoo". But with those films I at least get the bad idea they had. What story did they really want to tell with Big Bully? I suspect the original relationship then and in the future changed frequently as they were shooting so when they were done it was a swiss cheese.
Please stick with me guys, this Big Bully story lands: This movie has been a quote monster in my house since I saw it in the theater, which is all insanity on its face. ("WhaDDAsammmHELLLLL?") ("But you can call me...Ross.") ("Daaaaaaaveyyyyyy...") ("Greeeeen Eggs and Haaaammm...") ("It becomes...hot dish...") ("What? More PEASSSS?") Even crazier, as a child I started collecting theater posters, and the dumb, plain white one-sheet of Fang hugging Davey was one of them...and I still have it. Up. I'm 40 in two weeks. Crazier still, as soon as eBay was officially a thing, I bought the Knievel toy set, x2, boxed/loose. I still have them. Not-so-crazy side note: I purchased the Duke Kaboom! toy set for my kid after Toy Story 4 came out; it emulates the Knievel set from the film...and she loves it like Davey did. Our favorite book, for a time, Green Eggs and Ham...my stolen copy (though from a church(?!), not a library). The book isn't a moon rock...but nobody's looking for it/me, so I'm in no danger. Small world side note: I met the screenwriter, Mark Steven Johnson, shortly after he directed Daredevil/Ghost Rider, at a comic convention when he was the original choice ti helm the Preacher film adaptation from DC, which never materialized. Everyone asked Ghost Rider and Preacher questions. Not me. Told him I loved the film and why...and he was flabbergasted that anyone had seen it, let alone enjoyed it.😂 Grand finale: I'm a writer who moved back to his hometown in June... You guys, it just hit me: I might be this movie's biggest fan...
Allison MIGHT remember this, but there's a scene in 13 Seconds where one character says 'Something is wrong here' and another character (played by the director) replies 'Your hair?' NOBODY reacts to the line, not even the guy it was directed to. That was what this movie reminded me of. Jokes made for nobody no one reacts to.
The more I rewatch this review the more I recall fuzzy memories of watching once on tv when I was about 15. I remember watching some movie about some moon rocks being stolen by some kid but couldn’t remember what it came from.
The reason for Rick Moranis stepping down from acting and just doing voice acting, was because of his wife passing away... Sure, "Big Bully" bombing at the box office kinda did him no favors, but it certainly wasn't Moranis' fault.
I'll just say: maybe watch the video before commenting on the title? Titles for TH-cam videos need to be eye-catching so people click on them, they don't always have to be 100% accurate. This is essentially a simplification/urban legend: his wife had passed 6 years prior to this movie even coming out.

Peter Venkman from The Real Ghostbusters (in Lorenzo Music's voice, of course), "It wasn't that funny."
Old Man: "you're right Peter, because he's completely useless now."
Wabuu: "This crossover of Phelous' running gags is sooooooooooooooo stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid."
CROSSOVER INTERRUPTING BEAR 🐻
Wuschel: "What am I doing here? I don't have a catchphrase"
Beauty: gasp
28:55 I died laughing at "You will perish in flames!!!" **throws vase**
The thing that always confused me about this was how in the TV spot, there's a bit where kid Rick Moranis is overdubbed by an obvious adult saying "Hi, Fang!" in a kid voice, but in the movie itself, it's just the child actor. Even as a kid, that was a "What the..." moment.
have to admit that "Welcome to Hell! I'll be your tour guide!" is a pretty cool line, if still a bit corny :P corny-cool, i guess
Speaking of mid-tier Tom Arnold movies, you guys should totally review Carpool from 1996!
ETA: yes! You mentioned it. It’s so delightfully bad.
This movie seems like two screenplays shoved together, or the studio execs chopped an entire hour off so no context exists with certain scenes.
The score reminded me very much of Matilda (1996), and sure enough it's by the same guy.
Roscoe punching David in the balls *THAT'S MY PURSE I DON'T KNOW YOU!*
phelan is childhood youtuber
Rick Moranis most likely would've retired regardless of the quality of this film to take care of his kids.
If I'm ever home sick soon, I just wanna watch all your videos while I'm on and off sleeping and it'll be the best sick day ever 👌👌
lol his son is the "naked woman!" Lady Godiva kid from charmed
This movie is fascinating because you can see and hear how completely done Rick Moranis is, he’s just over it
Phelous and Alison’s enemy, Tom Arnold.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show, RIP 'Peter Scolari'.
37:21 What a Cool Transition showing both actors.
You know I forgot Rick is In Ghostbusters😅 i know he was in that honey I shrunk the kids thing🤔
The moon rock granted Principal Kokelar immortality
I prefer The Stupids and Carpool over this. At least those were creative in their weird plots.
Oh Lord no. I hated the Stupids. I’ll take Big Bully any day. That former movie just shows me how fall John Landis fell as a filmmaker.
The Stupids I didn’t think was that bad as the family did live up to their names and were pretty accurate portrayals to how they were in the books.
I remember being a kid and always catching this movie on tv, I liked it.
You're serious...
Btw, surprised there were no WWF jokes. Googling Big Bully brings up a wrestler called Jim Jacobs who ran by this nickname! :P
Tbh they should have made this an IT style horror movie, it probably would have worked better
I don't think I watched the whole thing but I vaguely remember the climax of this movie from childhood as some sort of fever dream.
It's been ages since I've seen this film, but part of me wondered if it was real...
I really hope we're closer to you both covering the Tom Arnold movie I watched the most growing up, Carpool also from 96'
It's like Adam Sandler's That's my Boy. It's a Comedy that feels more like a Thriller.
23:49 Was that Friday the 13th music Added by you guys there?
Please stick with me guys, this Big Bully story lands:
This movie has been a quote monster in my house since I saw it in the theater, which is all insanity on its face.
("WhaDDAsammmHELLLLL?")
("But you can call me...Ross.")
("Daaaaaaaveyyyyyy...")
("Greeeeen Eggs and Haaaammm...")
("It becomes...hot dish...")
("What? More PEASSSS?")
Even crazier, as a child I started collecting theater posters, and the dumb, plain white one-sheet of Fang hugging Davey was one of them...and I still have it.
Not me. Told him I loved the film and why...and he was flabbergasted that anyone had seen it, let alone enjoyed it.😂
Grand finale: I'm a writer who moved back to his hometown in June...
You guys, it just hit me: I might be this movie's biggest fan...
Big Bully 2 will be mostly shot in Vancouver on a boat with one brief scene in Times Square where Tom Arnold just glances around.
Allison MIGHT remember this, but there's a scene in 13 Seconds where one character says 'Something is wrong here' and another character (played by the director) replies 'Your hair?'
NOBODY reacts to the line, not even the guy it was directed to.
That was what this movie reminded me of. Jokes made for nobody no one reacts to.
16:37...Wait that voice...DAN!? IS THAT YOU?!?!
"Look - Killer Clowns on the moon."
-"Yeah."
Adding Mr. Moranis' assault to his last film, goddamn.
I have a pretty good memory of the movies I’ve seen, but I had completely forgot I’d seen this one.
The more I rewatch this review the more I recall fuzzy memories of watching once on tv when I was about 15. I remember watching some movie about some moon rocks being stolen by some kid but couldn’t remember what it came from.
Great video.
Ric was the mannnnn i miss him in movies but u respect his choices
The crack guy is curtis "booger" armstrong. From the revenge of the nerds and moonlighting, there was also a popular simpsons reference to him.
Tom Arnold's character: Welcome back, Davey!
Me: oh, is Tom trying out for the Hugo Weaving Agent Smith Lookalike Competition?
