    I'm a farmer in a Africa, and my experience has mostly been with Brahman (bad tempered assholes, we've never gotten along) and Limousine (sweethearts). I'm sure Highlands would hate the heat here... But I watch you and it's clear how much you love them. In my experience, that's what counts. Like having a dog, you've just got to have a mutual respect and love for each other. Much love from Zimbabwe.

    Same reason I brush my kitties and my puppydog. Because they like it and so do I. Also, the way he looked at you when you said he's always dirtier. 😂

      @@mrade5321 lol. I started brushing mine as a baby so he'd get used to it. I guess it's kind of like being groomed by a mama kitty to him.
      Actually, cows groom each other like that our of affection too, come to think of it. I wonder if that's why these big guys like it, too.

    • @HamishandKyloe
      @HamishandKyloe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the past, most of my good stories came from my time training dogs for search and rescue… as you can imagine working in animal control, and as a vet tech can be rewarding, but it’s also filled with lots of heartbreaking stories…
      And when I got to the point where I believed that people should have to pass a test to own a pet I decided it was probably best to get out while I still had a chance to make their lives better, and not just intervene under sad circumstances…
      But yes, I have lots of stories that I’m happy to share.

    In the spirit of the holidays please consider some donation to the nonprofit sanctuary. Feed and forage has gone up a lot and they have to be fed that because in Virginia there isn't a lot of pasture once winter sets in. Please like share subscribe and comment it helps the channel.

    I have read that Highland cow hair can be made into yarn. Do you collect the hair and sell it to spinners and weavers?
    The cows' hair reminds me of muskoxen, whose hair makes a beautiful yarn.

    Can you ride them?

    • @HamishandKyloe
      @HamishandKyloe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends on your definition of “ride”… I can sit on them while they move around but if you mean ride as in “intentionally steering them in a specific direction”.. then the answer is a most enthusiastic “Oh, hell no”

    Is there any rhyme or reason why the terror twins, Kyloe and Hammish, that is, destroy the gate, or anything else?

    • @HamishandKyloe
      @HamishandKyloe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Boredom… they sometimes do the same thing with trees or brush, but I think gates take the brunt of it because they like the way they “klang”

  • @blujen1642
    @blujen1642 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    They clearly love the brushings n time with you. They are incredibly docile n gentle with you. Are they steers or bulls? or because you started brushing them as calves?

    • @HamishandKyloe
      @HamishandKyloe  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Highlands are widely regarded as fairly docile cows. Kyloe was 4 years old before I laid eyes on him. Having said that, I think its mostly due to the amount of time I spend with them. Experience also helps
