  • In case you have been living under a rock or are a complete dinosaur juice drinking petrol head, the upcoming 24 October release of VW's Scout EV will bring back one of America's most storied automotive brands- The International Harvester Scout EV! Volkswagen brilliantly bought the rights to long bankrupt International Harvester and America's first ever SUV, the Scout. The upcoming Scout EV is reportedly designed to honor the rugged off-road legacy of the original Scout, while embracing modern electric technology for both off and on-road versatility. In case you also missed it, VW struck a deal this summer with Rivian for billions of dollars to get access to their electrical architecture and software on behalf of Scout. Solid move for a German automotive company as they typically always struggle with electrical engineering and EV software. Regardless, what this means for the two seemingly similarly missioned vehicles remains to be seen, but I think Scout will be more about off-road and accessories, and less about saving the planet. Time will soon tell however. In the interim, early renderings and Scouts of old, which had a good twenty year run between the early 1960's and 1980's, suggest a boxy body on frame design, with thick A and B pillars, and a swooping, angular C pillar to stay true to form. This coupled with a wide and tall stance, remains intended for tough terrains and outdoor activities, though I'm sure the Scout will be good at hauling groceries too. Rumors abound given the lack of leaks to date, but both the SUV and pickup could possibly include practical and competitive features like all wheel drive, "gear" shifting, four-wheel steering, more physical controls than your average EV, and adaptive ride height. Production is on schedule for 2026 deliveries with a price target starting in the mid-$40,000 range. Let me know your thoughts, what you think we'll see, and if you know anything about the October reveal! ;)

@@ramshung Looks like you're an International Harvester fan. Why the hate for the Scout EV? It really seems like the team at Scout wants to get it right, so I'm curious, would you like it more if it was hybrid, or is anything with a battery a deal breaker? Not alot out there that can perform better than a Rivian on road and off, so guessing they're benchmarking that, but will try to appeal more to old school 4x4 crowd (see, I didn't even say SUV!). Here's hoping it at least has the ability to switch gears!

@@JoywritingCars remember I said this. In your lifetime you will remember this time when the Chinese communist party paid American politicians to push EV mandates because they (the CCP) could not compete with internal combustion engines. There is nothing "green" about EV. Slave labor in 3rd world countries digging up a metal toxic to humans. Not to mention we do not have the infrastructure to support EV cars. Where did I get this crazy Idea that the CCP was paying for this? From watching Russia pay for the same green new deal; they paid for commercials politicians and propaganda pieces all designed to push natural gas in Europe from the late 90s through the mid 2000s. An adventure car EV is absolutely idiotic.

@@JoywritingCars I’ve owned a Rivian R1T now for just over two years. Prior to that, I owned two Toyota 4x4 (1985, 1991). I loved those Toyota trucks, but the off-roading ability of the Rivian is astoundingly superior.
I’m really excited to see what Scout brings to the table. My hopes are that it’s less expensive and even more capable off-road than the R1T -i.e., better approach and departure angles, larger tire options, etc.
Looking forward to the 10.24.2024 reveal.
