    I purchased the DT201 from Amazon in October. I love it but I AM having the temperature problems reported elsewhere. When set to 400°, my oven would heat no higher than 350° after 40 minutes. I called Ninja today and they agreed it was not working correctly and are exchanging it for a new one. Thanks so much for your excellent videos.

    John, "Ninja Kitchen' just stated the following: ""Shortly after the launch of the Ninja Foodi Oven, it was determined that the splatter guard was not required covering the fan and that the product performed equally well with just the metal grate covering the fan. Moving forward, no units are being manufactured with the splatter guard. The metal grate covering the fan can be cleaned per the instructions in the manual for cleaning the interior of the product."" I found this on their youtube channel under the comment section where they replied to Mary Esser 3 months ago. LOVE your show, Jelly, I always learn how to improve my cooking.

    Hey great video! You got me excited about XL Oven and bought my own! Also thank you for addressing the missing splatter shield. I was going crazy about why it was missing from my oven. Like you said there was not bracket or anything for the shield to attach to so it must of been intentional. So I did some investigating and called Ninja. I had a 45min call with customer service trying to tell them that my oven didn't have the shield. I told him that I watched TH-cam channels using the oven with the screen clearly in front of the fan and that it was also in some of their promotional pictures. Especially the one with the chicken and the potatoes on top. But didn't know anything about a screen in any of the ovens. In the end he made a very good point saying that he wasn't able to find the spatter shield as a replacement part in their system and in the website. The spatter shield for the grill was available as a replacement part. Tbh he did a very good job in helping with his limited resources he had which was all the official Ninja videos and manual only. He did say that he does see it but can't confirm it you know. I just hope it's not about cutting costs or maybe a performance thing about the fan choking up or something. Well imma try to put small splatter shield in front of the fan to at least protect the fan and give it a longer lifespan (hopefully).

    I’m not sure if someone has pointed it out but as a convection oven it sets as 450°F but in actual fact 425°f is convection temp for 450°F usually because there is an element in the fan as well.

    Outstanding very detailed 60-day review video and thanks-so-much for discussing the splatter shield screen discrepancies between the two ovens. I know I freaked out when I received my DT201 directly from Ninja without the splatter shied screen installed after watching so many reviews showing the oven with a splatter shield screen and likewise Ninja's website showing the oven with the splatter shield screen on the oven; heck I thought they sent me a defective one.
    When I called Ninja direct, the representative had no explanation for the missing splatter shield screen except to say the oven does not come with such splatter shield screen, and had no explanation as to why a splatter shield screen was shown on the oven on Nina's website. Granted there was a language barrier as the Ninja's rep was not the most fluent in the English language, speaking nor understanding what I was trying to relay to them. Oh well, Ninja does make a fabulous oven...
    Also the tips and demonstration of the cleaning products was a very big plus... Thanks John!

    getting use to mine , so far no problems, today I used a Dutch oven to cook a chuck roast and vegs. I did take off the knob on top to make sure not to hit the top burners, placed it on 2nd slot , 400 deg. for hour n half . checked it at 50 mins. was almost done , turned tem down to 350 for 15 mins , came out perfect .

    Even if preheat doesn't get it to temp, I did a pizza in mine today (we just got it, so I had to try something) set it to pizza, 400, 20 minutes (what the box says.) Once preheat was over, I put the pizza in, and it only took about 12 minutes. It could have gone longer however it would have soon I feel start burning the cheese and meats. It turned out great, and took less time then a conventional oven. I replaced the Foodi for the XL. I was really not expecting the cavity of the Foodi to be so small, as great the oven is. I think this XL will be very good,

    Ovens are supposed to fluctuate. Once the inside temperature has dropped below the set temperature, the oven cycles on again to heat and will then cycle off again to maintain an average set temperature. The key concept is "average" set temp. Your graphs illustrate that perfectly. I bought an early Cuisinart combination convection/microwave oven many years ago. Piece of junk. I have kept a thermometer inside it for over an hour with the oven set at 400 degrees and it won't get hotter than 335 degrees. Now that I have my air fryer, the Cuisinart is just a huge expensive microwave that I occasionally use as a warming oven 😔. I think you may have convinced me to try this Ninja oven, kick the Cuisinart dinsaur to the curb, and replace it with a compact microwave.

    My original Dt-200 had the splatter screen and new Dt-251 smart does not... from conversation with Ninja apparently may have been removed due to airflow restrictions which didn't seem to be a issue. Doesn't seem like a good thing to not have as after roasting a chicken it had quite a bit of grease on it. All of which will now go straight on the fan.

    • @JohnSanders
      @JohnSanders  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually believed that may have been why they did it and the reason I did the test on 2 ovens with and without... but...I was surprised to see the one with the fan actually got a little hotter...I do think cleaning the screen is important...thanks for sharing your experience...

      I have another brand convection oven for 8 yrs and it doesn't have a splatter shield. I don't think I've used the fan function in 6 or 7 years because the fan has been gunked up baking with oily foods chicken or fish. I'll be looking at this older model if I can find it. I don't need a thermometer I want that splatter guard that oven will last longer especially the fan. Might be why Ninja got rid of it for future sells.

    John I’m lost here.... ? You say here in this episode that you’ve had the D251 longer....???? You’ve had your D201 long before you got the D251. Perhaps you misspoke.....? About 7-8 days ago, I tried to buy my daughter the D251 but couldn’t find one in-stock so I settled on ordering the D201 which arrived on Sat..... It has the splatter shield and was manufactured in Nov(2020). My D251 was manufactured in Oct. So I’m thoroughly confused here 🤷🏻‍♂️.

      I meant to mention it but somehow forgot... the fan in the original DT201 oven i had was making a noise...I called ninja warranty and they did a video call and watched and listened to it... although as I explained it was obvious on my videos which he didn't know who I was...lol... so... after hearing and seeing they sent me a new oven and that is it...I have no complaints with their warranty procedure...I did have to pay for shipping and I think that was 20 dollars... but very happy to get it...I honestly don't know how i forgot to cover that but I plan to mention it on a video one day... thanks for watching!!!

    I think it takes so long to preheat because it doesn't use the upper or lower elements to heat up for most modes. Just the rear fan heating element. Reheat heats up the fastest.
    Mine has temperature consistency issues too. Thermometer showed it was sometimes 40 degrees under what it should be while I was baking a cake last night.

    I got this oven without the probe and was so excited. I tried several things and consistently found that it took MUCH longer to cook everything but toast. So I returned it and got another one..... ugh the same problem and nothing came up to temp when checking with a digital thermometer with probe. The bake function was easily 30-50 degrees low. The whole roast function did better but ONLY if you set the time for less and then came back to reset. apparently it thinks that the set temp does not need to be reached until the end of the cook.... I am so discouraged... ugh

  • @blaskotron
    @blaskotron 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I put my grill thermometer in there and it took over seven minutes to reach 400 on bake, was already pretty warm from previous testing. Also used a laser thermometer on a pan to verify it was accurate. Pretty slow, was wondering why it needs extra time vs my old air fryer. Last 10 degrees were the slowest, maybe I need to use higher Temps.

    Thanks for the video John! We did the Pre-use, 20 minute run of Air Roast at 450 degree to prep the unit for first use. During the 20 minute cycle we smelt a really nasty chemical smell, guessing its some kind of grease or something they coat the inside with. I called customer service and they said this smell is normal. That being said we have tried running the unit a few more times since the initial 20 minute cycle and we are continuing to notice the chemical smell... Curious if you or anyone else watching your videos has experienced this same smell and if it goes away over time? For what it's worth we got our unit from amazon and while the box it came in says DT201, the sticker on the back of the unit says DT200. The unit does not have the splatter shield.

    The new ( somewhat newer model) is a dt201 they just added the thermometer. They used the old oven to make the dt251. Look at the labels on the back and the are two different model numbers. So the one with no splatter guard it the newer built model.

    @Mr. Sanders Could you measure the ambient top temperature inside the oven with a sizeable amount of food cooking in it as well. A lot of these toaster ovens, be they convection or not, especially these high capacity ovens tend not to be able to maintain temperature with food cooking in them (I'm not talking expected fluctuations of during the cooking process but maintaining an average of at least within 25 degrees of the expected set temp.) . Maybe a 1/2 hour into a cook of a 5 lb. chicken. I would greatly appreciate it and I'm sure others contemplating purchasing this oven would too. Thank you.

    I just bought the DT200. It doesn’t have reheat or dehydrate. Are you familiar with it. Is it a good one

    I would not run mine without the splatter shield in place. The fan would get dirtied up faster I would think. By the way, did you swap the doors or control panels from the 2nd one to the first one?

      Not sure what you mean about swapping doors?... you mean on any of the ovens I have?

      The reason the control panels are different is that they are two different models. One has a temperature probe and the other one does not.

    Why did you not do this test under bake? The problem is under the bake setting.
