Craig gets a crappy run of the mill F250 and can't be more excited. Craig gets a unique bad ass little desert runner beetle with crazy suspension and Honda swap and calls it crap and garbage 20 times in the first 2 minutes of looking at it 😂 Ford guys are wired different
If it wont rev past 3 or 4k, inside the ecu you bridge the vss with the vtec solenoid and that will take it out of limp mode and allow vtec to work. Also you don't need the o2 sensors wired up. Also you probably have a perm code for no immobilizer chip.
As a bug owner myself (stock one, not a baja) one thing that NEED to be changed if it is stock, is the steering! Not just the box or the column, THE WHOLE STEERING! That floatiness you described, a HUGE chunk of whats causing it, is the steering, SPECIALLY when lifted. Bugs are notoriusly known for having bad steering and much more problems, but i love them!
That car looks a lot like a car that was on the news in San Diego a number of years back where the driver/builder was showing off and how it performed.
You can convert a WRX transmission into a transaxle, and if you flip it upside down, it'll even turn the wheels in the correct direction for rear engine applications such as this. DK what to do to make it limited slip, but the point is; look into it if you want a cheap, relatively easy, and relatively solid trans option to replace the bus trans. Also, if you can swing a turbo system, something like one of the smaller Borg S300SXE with a twin scroll type D housing would be perfect. You can even use the stock manifolds and current mid pipes, and if you wanted to get epic, do a water to air built into the intake manifold that way the whole system is relatively compact and low profile. If not, Whipple 140AX if it's a J35/J37, or a 100AX if it's a J30/J32.
What you could do since your going to rework the whole back of the "car".... ditch the whole rear engine and bus trans setup and go with a mid engine and transaxle setup. It will have better steering, CV angles, better trans, smoother ride, etc.... the only downside is that it won't "look" like a baja bug with the engine hanging out the back. Even if you do keep the rear engine setup get a modem transaxle from a sand rail. It will be a lot better then the bus trans.
That ride height is fine. generally most decent bug rear setups are 80% up travel and 20% droop. At axles level there will be some angle back because as the suspension cycles it will move forward through the arc. This one might have the engine and trans too far forward, but not that much, maybe an inch or 2 at the most. but it has standard stub axles in the back reducing axle length, in turn reduces travel. with a 3x3 stub axle setup with 002 trans the most wheel travel you'll see is probably 14-15" and thats with 930s. with bus axles youre looking more like 12". I have a 3x3 micro stub kit with 930s and getting 16" was difficult while maintaining ground clearance. at 16" of travel im at 18 degrees of axle angle at full bump and 26 degrees at full droop. At ride height my axles are at 10 degrees. if I wanted to reduce my ground clearance at full bump to zero I could have 20" of travel, but being so rear biased, you want at least 4-5" ground clearance at full bump. As well as the fact your engine is back there you dont want to be slamming it on the ground every time you land, go through a G out, or go through whoops.
The front suspension set up reminds me of a sport quad like a Yamaha Raptor or YFZ. Very cool looking! Set up right it should glide across the desert and fire roads.
Very cool project. If I had money to kill, I'd put a b18c in one. More power than 2332 n/a , more reliable, less weight than v6.. Congrats on new v dub.
Yo havent even watched yet, now this is sick dude hell yes. this is cool. You can do so much with this awesome buy dude. The baja are the best of the bugs period
I had a similar problem in my set up like yours. My car was in lip mode and wouldn’t hit vetch with out a speedometer cable hooked up for some odd reason! After that it ripped.
Those codes are for the O2 sensors there missing that's why it's running the way it does you need to go into the programming and remove the O2 sensors shut them off
I’d love a toy like that, I wouldn’t want it shiny and pretty, just a quick lick of drab green and perhaps some choice decals. Naca ducts and fuel filler in plexi glass side windows perhaps
Baja Blast of course.
This is it, you could even to a Baja Blast livery
Craig, you need to call it "The Stink Bug".
Craig gets a crappy run of the mill F250 and can't be more excited. Craig gets a unique bad ass little desert runner beetle with crazy suspension and Honda swap and calls it crap and garbage 20 times in the first 2 minutes of looking at it 😂 Ford guys are wired different
That's honestly pretty sick I didn't expect it to have a v6, that's fucking awesome

Also could have a rev limiter with a cold set
Internal pcm fault code like you mentioned

yup
Porsche steering from a 924
Love the fact that you said its already stupid fast and sketchy as hell and yet needs a supercharger , why I love this channel !
Crazy! I love lifted bugs
I vote for Dung beetle as its name. Fits it perfectly in my opinion 👌
I was thinking the same thing! As soon as he called it a turd, I said to myself, Dung beetle!
Doesn't AZN already have the original Dung Beetle?
@@chrisallen2005yes
There is only 1 dung beetle
That car looks a lot like a car that was on the news in San Diego a number of years back where the driver/builder was showing off and how it performed.
WilkeyWorks was the bug shipped out of the country I had to double check

that's an odd swap i wasn't expecting a v6.
They're pretty popular for buggy swaps. Good power, light, and cheap
It’s stuck in limp mode because from what I can see there is no O2 sensors on that exhaust and the stock ecu definitely needs that to run properly
dude that thing is sick i would love something like that!
This needs a PFI speed collaboration

It ain't got no gas in it. Carl Childers.
Can't stop laughing at the passenger door flying open when you first drove it. Classic.
😂 You move that engine any further back and you might as well get it a trailer.
You need to do a vehicle fleet update, I’m so lost on what you own now😂
Ikr

Call it Dung Beatle
I cant wait to see this thing once you have gone completely through it. I already know its going to RIP
I’d like to see you build a set of long tube with x pipe or a 6-1 for this thing
I second this
I love all your Fords but I’m really really diggin this bug. Like wayy too much.
That thing is sick! Let's get it all fixed up. An m90 supercharger would be a great addition
The front suspension set up reminds me of a sport quad like a Yamaha Raptor or YFZ. Very cool looking! Set up right it should glide across the desert and fire roads.
"71" is the year of excellence and perfection! That's the year, that I was born! 😜💯
Very cool project. If I had money to kill, I'd put a b18c in one. More power than 2332 n/a , more reliable, less weight than v6.. Congrats on new v dub.
Paint it white pearl metallic. It would look awesome in the sun in the desert.
Air, fuel, spark… you don’t really need all three! 😂
“Ain’t got no gas innit” in my best slingblade voice 21:02
The bug is sooooo rad , I always loved those things . Cheers 🇨🇦
My vote for the bug name is “Greg”. Craig and Greg has a nice ring to it!
Here for the Baja Build 😃👍
That bug is awesome ! Looks like something out of a mad max movie fix her up and throw a turbo on her and have some real fun out at Glamis
It is a super cool project. I am a big off road fanatic. This is the kind of project I'd like to find.
looking forward to this build! desert vlog coming this season!!
The Beatles name should be the bugle.
This… is so fucking cool, Craig. I love it.
Can we body swap the galaxy onto a crown Vic chassis, utilizing the fire wall and floor pan from the crown Vic
This bug is sick as hell!
Bro that wiring up front is literally how they came out the factory😄👍
that Fairlane deserves some love!
You called it turd, it’s a bug . Name it Burd🤙
This thing is gonna be a riot! Can’t wait to see what you do with it 👍🏽
This thing has potential to be really cool
That thing is SICK!
Thing is SICKKKK!! Can’t wait to see it’s future
DUNG BEETLE!!!!
Its either a j32 or j35. Most people dont know it but that engine actually also used in a GM vehicle other than a honda. A Saturn Vue. No joke. 😂🤣
Yo havent even watched yet, now this is sick dude hell yes. this is cool. You can do so much with this awesome buy dude. The baja are the best of the bugs period
Bro never change your awesome and the content you produce is one of a kind
I had a similar problem in my set up like yours. My car was in lip mode and wouldn’t hit vetch with out a speedometer cable hooked up for some odd reason! After that it ripped.
I'm a ford guy.... but a vw guy at heart.... I've have 5 vw's... love working on them, drivein them ... just as fun as a ford but metric
I dig the bug always wanted one off road style
This is awesome I just got my 63 bug on the road again last week
Love baja bugs and love a good j series honda. Perfection here
That thing looks crazy as hell but it looks like a blast wonce you get it setup right 😂
Has a nicholsfab A-Arm kit on it, pretty cool!
put the fuel tank, electronics and radiator on the front and make a cantilever rear suspension to make it 4 seated and add a roof rack on top.
I can't wait for the crown vic video.
9:52 make sure you're eating ice cream though. Hehe
😂i thought about the gas thing once you got it to crank then it wanted to start with starting fluid. Happens to the best of us
Nice. Probably in limp mode still made more power than my baja
The Baja Blast! 🙌🏻
If it’s just sitting it won’t rev past 45 rpm but if your driving it I will higher then 45 the ecu did the same on my tl
Dzus fasten the quarter window covers in for access panels to work on it.
Welcome to the bug club! I have a 73 convertible! 😂
Probably something to do with the ecm. I mean it's not exactly hooked to the factory key.
My neighbor has the same engine in his Baja bug. Thing sounds wild
fuel
fire
timing
love you Craig
da wookiee
APPROVED
Awesome! That’s the 2nd coolest car you own! Can’t wait to see what you do!’nn😎
Ford guys...so humble. Slick back hair, skinny jeans, calls everything a pile of junk...good people, LOL
name it humblebee
Those codes are for the O2 sensors there missing that's why it's running the way it does you need to go into the programming and remove the O2 sensors shut them off
It's BLACK. It's a BUG. And it (better) JUMP. "Cricket!"
been wanting a baja forever it would be sick with a leghened rear to fit a big engine.
I’d love a toy like that, I wouldn’t want it shiny and pretty, just a quick lick of drab green and perhaps some choice decals. Naca ducts and fuel filler in plexi glass side windows perhaps
Craig909 Build That VW Baja Bug From The Ground Up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bomb bug shall be the name
Honda-bug=hug, hog, Bunda, something along those lines lol
The Dung Beetle.
I’ve seen an couple with American v8 in them really cool
Look into a Porsche box some of them are ram in that orientation. And I think people have done k swaps on them too
Beck yeah! Awesome project
That galaxie needs to be a gasser!
Name it the roach
Looking forward to seeing what you will do with this.
Curbie. Instead of racing its hopping curbs and jumping
Looks to be a blast!
Asian Bug!
So cool!
Name it wild thing because it is wild.
"Dung Beetle" 💩 would be the ideal name for it Craig.. 👍
Checking to make sure you have fuel is a basic thing 😂
I got a low mileage 2 door Altima with a V6 I'd love to use the motor out of for one of these!
I like them old dune buggy ones like off that old cartoon speed buggy
Looks mad max
Shock angle on that looks pretty typical for a bug. 90 degrees at full bump
