You set the pickup heights with a gauge?
I always set them for sound. Set the bridge first for good tone, then set the height of the other pickup(s) to match the bridge volume so they mix well when two pickups are selected. If they are just set the same height the neck pickup will be louder and overpower the bridge pickup.

Both are useful but sound rules overall. A measurement can give you a rough height, and then I usually adjust from there for sound. Personal preference like you said tho

what grit sandpaper are you using after the crowning job ?

It depends. I usually go with 800 grit and then 0000 steel wool. This is absolutely sufficient to have a perfectly smooth frets. If you are looking for a shiny fretboard you can use only sandpaper: 800 to 1000 to 1500. Even in this case buffering the frets is not required they will bi shiny enough but if you want to take an extra step go on and buff them!

Usually 600->1000->1500 as needed -> polish

I saw a video of a guy leveling the frets with one of those crowning files that does the top and sides, he was just filing the area on the fret where he marked a rocking and he had 10 frets to level, I was thinking that this could throw out the radius of the frets. personally I would have used a levelling beam and then crowned them.
I dont think what he was doing seemed right but I am no Luthier just a hobbyist, what is your opinion?

Hi Andrew, beautiful name btw 😜, do yo have the link to such video?
If not done properly you could mess up the fret radius especially because usually the frets worn much faster on G B and E strings which means that when you are leveling the frets you might take off more material on that side of the fretboard. Anyway the radius won't change dramatically.
When I do this kind of job, even if there are only a few buzzing frets, I prefer to work on the whole fretboard to be 100% sure of the result.

@@AndrewsGuitarShop I found the video, its a bit long winded but the fret levveling begins at 27:50, personally I would have used my Nylon/leather hammer to check that the frets were seated properly first
