Gave me a few ideas for a problem that I need to get past. My good live centers don't let me get close to the end of the work but something like this could help, and If I extend the live portion out a bit I could get very creative. Those bearing cannot take a lot of axial load, but adding a small thrust bearing would help a lot.
Would a small lip on the bottom of the spinning shaft help seat it against the bearing and leave a little bit of space between the spinner and the holder as a thrust washer kinda thing Still a pretty cool build...simple and fast and does what it's supposed to...how accurate is it? Does it have much runout?
If you push anything with that center it will most probably lock out as you did not used any axial bearings. It's out of center and the finish quality is terrible with these diy cutters. You could achieve much better quality.
