    I feel like the hardest part of being tall is trying not to look awkward when your low in a lunge or squat because dancing low is realllly weird for me. Video on comfortably dancing at a low level??

    • @HectorButNotZeroni
      @HectorButNotZeroni 5 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      Just my own experience, but found that the more flexible I got, the more comfortable and less awkward dancing low was. It just became more natural feeling as a whole.

      I used to feel really awkward dancing low (I’m not even that tall but still). To get over it, I just started bending my knees and staying low while I freestyled to songs. I think it’s just something you need to get used to. Eventually dancing low will get in your muscle memory and it won’t feel so awkward. Dancehall is a great style that emphasizes levels. Finding different dance styles, moves, combos, and choreography that has lots of levels can help you improve. Just keep bending those knees. Stretching and strength training (squats, lunges, toe raises, etc) can also be very beneficial. Another thing that helped me a lot was to get out of my head (this can go for anything really), because when you’re in your head it can show and you won’t feel as confident. So own it! Hope this helps 😊

      That categorized body for a dancer is skinny, and or slim fit. Not larger, so as a skinny dancer you have a more ideal build. versus a larger person.

    • @alejandrosantos5328
      @alejandrosantos5328 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Prince Winston Thee Third - Thats true however being too big or too small is still a struggle since your body type isn’t “the norm” (even though skinnier bodies might have it better than larger ones, depending on the dance style) Just because we might have it better doesn’t mean we have it all good. And I don’t think you know how skinny I’m talking about 😭 Not slim fit, I’m talking about skinnnnny

    For me (6" female), I realized that I need to make sure I'm going down as far as possible in my squats and lunges when working out. I notice that I tend to hover a bit above my lowest possible level, so I can do more reps. But from my research, it seems I need LESS reps w/MORE weight to develop the strength and power to dance more cleanly and explosively.
    So, even though I can do less reps (for now!) when going all the way to the floor in a lunge, for instance, that's exactly what I need to do to make dancing easier.
    How does this relate?
    Well, I unfortunately default to putting weight in the balls of my feet (and looking CRAZY AWKWARD, @$% in the air ~ lol) when dancing, instead of in my heels... in the groove... sitting back and low. As a tall person in a world made for short and average sized people, I'm constantly leaning forward to do... everything. But (in hip hop/urban especially), I see that it's important to bend your knees and put weight in your heels. To do that, I need to make sure I'm doing *fully flexed* squats and lunges in my workouts, so that that natural weight distribution doesn't take so much out of me... and so I don't look like a spindly fool.

    The thing is; there is a big difference between being tall and having long limbs, having insane proportions when it comes to how long your upper body, your legs and your arms are makes you look awkward while dancing and it gives off an illusion of poor technique. You can be so tall and have proportionate limbs and not look awkward and you don't need to put much effort in not looking awkward compared to others with a less proportionate body. I am 5"11' (180 cm) and I have a very long arm span, resting my hands literally reach the bottom 3/4 of my thigh and it just looks so weird when I dance, that's what I'm trying to improve upon rn.

But even if I'm a good dancer I can't imagine being good because of my height.... I can't control my body too and my arms are too long that it makes my dance looks bad, even if I will be good at dancing, it will be not that good because of my long arms unlike short people, (not too short like 5'1 or 5'2 or let me say an average height)
    most of the dancer I see are 5'1 '4'11 like that, and thier arms are not that long, and they're so good at dancing. So that's why being short has a little advantage at dancing 😭

    I’m mad short. (5’3) I feel like shorter people have a different way to emphasize the imagery of their dance because of their height and limb length. Could you possibly make a vid for short dancers as well? Love these videos. Keep it up STEEZY!! God Bless!!

    So I'm short but have long arms, and I look so awkward, especially with hip hop & it sucks because I really want to get better at it but I have the hardest time moving as quickly because my arms hold me back. Any tips?

    I’m 5’7” which is barely over average for for 20yo Woman but bc I’m skinny I have that “lanky” look & I was in dance kindergarten-Junior year I was always frustrated that despite how long I was in dance I felt like I wasn’t getting better & I didn’t even think about it being bc of my “lankiness” until a year after stopping dance classes. & both of my dance teachers were short & in general I do think I could’ve been in a better dance studio don’t get me wrong what they do is amazing but I just don’t think it’s quite what I wanted it felt like there was limit to how advanced you could go & also a limit being that there was never a how to “control your body/movements class” & also the fact that there’s a cut off for the dance studio being that once you graduate high school ur done.

    I think Floris Bosveld is the best blueprint for all tall dancers. If you're a tall dancer, you will look way better doing big arm-swinging movement instead of doing small, fast isolations. Learn to dance with your upper body more instead of footwork. Your footwork looks less impactful if you're a tall person.

    When you are nine and you are 5’4 so you are considered tall in your class so you are always the lead because everyone else is the same height I am the lead in 3/4 dances

    Dance solo. I'm 6.1 and sri lankan. All my friends have not even reached 5.5. Its funny cause I don't care they don't wanna dance but I pull them in and then I move to the back but if your friends are there even dancing on an abandoned building is amazing. It's in the fun. 😂😂🎶🎶🎶

      i'm 13 and 6'0, I would take 5'8 any day lol. Be confident with your height sis, it's pretty. Your dancing starts getting awkward when you get to a taller range.

    It's cool if you have nice proportions that don't scream *I'M TALL AND LONG* , I think the way your dance line looks when you're tall is weird 'cause you have like really long limbs and it kinda makes you look stiff and akward
