- GREAT DIESEL SOUND! The Ludmilla Diesel Locomotive (aka classes 230, 231, 232, 234) of the (former) East German Railways was built by the diesel locomotive works "October Revolution" in Woroschilowgrad/Soviet Union (today: Luhansk) in the 1970´s and 80´s.
This Diesel Locomotive class has a 16-cylinder turbocharged 4-stroke diesel engine (the legendary 5D49!) with chargecooler and 3000 HP, 6 axles and is designed for heavy freight and passenger trains. This Russian Diesel Locomotive has been in service in many former Eastern European countries.
The Diesel Locomotive has a nice sound, especially in the test facility at the end of the clip.

Excellent video. Just one thing: I'm pretty sure the Kolomna 5D-49 in the Ludmillas is a 4-stroke engine, unlike the 2-stroke unit in the older Taiga-Trommler (Szergej) M62s: you can hear the different sound.
@Seregium The brother of Ludmila for sovet railways is 2ТЭ116. Its improved version, 2ТЭ116У, is produced till nowdays. Though, you can find some photos of Ludmila at USSR (called ТЭ109) - only few locomotives were not exported.

no, they´ve been built for the GDR only.
The COMECON rules said that the GDR had to produce diesel locomotives of up to 2000 HP, so they had to let someone else build these locos.
I'm not quite sure, but I think this type of locomotives are produced in Voroshilovgrad for the average European gauge. I read it on the site of railway modellers in Bulgaria. These locomotives were delivered in Bulgaria and the Baltic states.For the last I'm not sure. I was only 5 years old when I first I got the engine and cab one of these.

that Kolomna engine is a genius. in class66 has 2 stroke engine and has a less power.
i have book caleed 1000locomotives on it says to some ludmillas has 4000 hp s. fantastic. 4 stroke and a turbo has a good meen. grate movie thanks for shaere is on of my favourite locomotives.
In all the time I've been in Russia I have never met a Ludmilla!

Und wenn man es mal vergleicht, dann stellt man fest, das es nur am Getriebe liegen kann, welches eindeutig für höhere Geschwindigkeiten ausgelegt war ... Reibungsmasse: 121,4t (V320) gegen 124,7t (Ludmilla); Anfahrzugkraft: max. 392 kN (V320) gegen max. 450 kN (Ludmilla); Höchstgeschwindigkeit: 160 km/h (V320) gegen 140 km/h (Ludmilla), Antrieb: 2x 1900 PS MTU MB 16 V 652 TB 10 (V320) gegen 1x 3000 PS Kolomna 5 D 49 ... und so weiter und so weiter
Don´t know exactly, but I think Lugansk is correct. The town was formerly called Woroschilowgrad.

Ja, doch, schon .... :-D ... nein, Spaß ... Sagte ,ir im ersten Moment nichts, liegt aber vieleicht dran, das ich mich bei weiten nicht so intensiv mit Loks beschäftige ;-) ... hab jetzt etwas draüber gelesen. Und nur, weil eine Lok für den schnellen Reisezugverkehr reiseverkehr ausgelegt ist ... und dazu noch 2 gekoppelte 1900 PS Motoren, mehr nicht??? Die Ludmilla hat einen (!) 3000 PS Motor, DR-142 sogar 4000 PS ;-) ... zumal die V320 später auf 120 km/h begrenzt wurde ...

DB-232 ist nur der neue Name der DR-132 Baureihe, nachdem die BRD sie von der DDR übernommen hatte :-) ... spannender sind da die Baureihen 233, 234 und 241, die nach der Wende produziert wurden ;-)

Öhm, Bulgaria buy old DR-131 after the DDR get a part of the BRD. So this locs are former DDR locs ;-)
