Internal files of an application can only be accessed by that application, so yes to access those internal files you will have to root the device.

@@Antek1234l 100%, I did that with code injection, idk why TH-cam removed my comment but I recently created a project that forces the app to create a tarball and store at a accessible location, and you may modify the tarball contains and then you can do that in reverse... I did that and it's quite handy and helped me to go and share appdata without root access and I don't ever feeling like losing my game progress anymore...
