    Lynn inspired me to believe I could make it in tech after working in a totally unrelated field (botany, fittingly enough). That I'm working in semiconductors now is due to her in no small part!

    Thank you, Lynn Conway! I believe in the diversity of nature and that so much more life force has been able to flourish because of you. I hope your spirit can rest peacefully knowing the love that follows your legacy.

    As someone transitioning and stuck at home due to quarantine, I've been going through the articles in your website. They've been incredibly helpful for me to keep going, especially as a soon-to-be woman in science, just like you.
    Thank you so much for all you've done, despite everything you've been through. You are such an inspiration.

    Just beautiful. I'm a retired computer scientist who first encountered Lynn Conway when I was at BBN 40 years ago and taught a course, with a colleague, that was based on her book with Carver Mead on a very important new approach to the design of integrated circuits. It was only later that I learned more about her life story and had the privilege of meeting her at Xerox PARC. She is one of the great, world-changing people in computer science, fully deserving of being mentioned in the same sentence with the likes of Bob Kahn, Vint Cerf, Doug Englelbart, Ray Tomlinson, Grace Hopper, etc.

      @@chicxulub2947 You should consider talking to a psychologist who's willing to consider autogynephilia/autoandrophilia, an autistic fixation on your body, depersonalization, among other conditions as explanations. HRT + SRS, an invasive surgery known for leaving lasting mental scars, definitely isn't going to assuage any of that.

      You're not in the least bit concerned about the connection to Alfred Kinsey? That man was a fraud who get personally involved with his research, thus tainting it. Hell, that Benjamin guy was probably a prototypical "Jazz surgeon."

      Absolutely. We need to foster a society that gives all trans people the ability to safely transition and be open and honest about their gender. Lynn has made fantastic strides towards this in her activism.

    Poor woman.
    She is just awkward, from birth. The set of her jaws, especially the lower one; her hands and body movements... Constantly sad, always lonely.
    It's the biology of her body, hormone balances, etc., which is twisted and predates any socialisations and "social prohibitions".

    • @TamsinJones
      @TamsinJones 5 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      She's done incredibly well with her life and doesn't seem sad at all, just mellow and well-balanced. And to be active and sharp at 76 is nothing to feel sad about, either!

      @@robertcarter8600 You just have no idea about what being trans really is, you ignorant fuck!! You really want to give opinions about something out of your ass in the most knowledgeable place about this??? You have no idea who she is... I can tell this just by reading your comment. She is famous and a very important piece in the history of microchip architecture... she's literally part of the history of Computer Science!! I know a professor at my University who even talked about her in the beginning of the course... just because she's transsexual, transitioned during the 60's and despite this she has done all these contributions to IBM.

      Poor woman? At least you got her pronoun right! ...I would describe her as very rich, ...she is successful! You can not imagine the additional burden being transgender and going through such a transition is on top of all the other challenges people face. Sadly, her success is not typical of most transgender people. It is so sad that your lens sees only the negatives that you want to see as opposed to the reality that she has contributed so much in her lifetime. The only regret I see is that she needs to escape the world and make her own sanctuary because the world is still full of too much hate and hurt.
