I live in Herefordshire UK 🇬🇧 I stumbled over this video as I was looking to buy an awning for my RAV4. As it’s got a barn door most just don’t do what I want. I’m single and not young. I go everywhere on my own. I sleep in the car, (I’ve made a great concertina bed). I use the rear door all the time for cooking and sitting etc but I have to close it at night and use the side door to get into bed. So my criteria is, easy to put up & down on my own, covers barn door & side door and copes with British weather. I think you have found it for for me. I’m going to find a stockist and get some prices. Thanks for sharing and giving such good info. 😁
Sleeping? 😂. I am planning on filming a video on the inside of the bundutop. Good idea with video on the ladder. I actually prefer the ladder supplied with the Bundutop than those Chinese collapsible ladders that everyone uses.
@@douger1517 I slept in the bundutop for 8 nights at the Gold Coast recently and it was the best sleep, mattress for me very comfortable. The most comfortable stock mattress I’ve ever slept in inside a roof top tent. That’s the beauty with the bundutop, no extra money need to spend on it. It’s got a comfortable mattress, has power already wired inside the tent so you can charge your phones etc, has two fans and has led light. Also pre wired to mount a solar panel onto the bundutop roof.
Wow that is a awesome awning thanks for the advice Phil. And you have RTT to go with it. I’ll be seriously look at installing that on my 90s prado any indoor about RTT will be appreciated
G’day Phil, just watch your comparisons of 4 x 4 awnings, very impressive, the ostrich wing did grab my attention! Question pls, how would the ostrich wing work with a lift up tailgate ! I own a Mercedes-Benz Vito van! Looking forward to your reply. Kim.
I don’t think any of the 270 awnings will work for you unless you can get the awning mounted up higher. You might need a fairly high roof rack to mount it on. Also the roof rack will need to be well mounted and strong.
Not much use if you have a hatchback. Does it have walls on the car side? Does it have a bucket floor? Does the roof pool water, because I doubt you can drop the edges?
What’s that saying? “Buy once, cry once over the price”. At least you will not have to keep buying awnings all the time like I’ve been doing. The 30 second awning is very similar but I don’t think it’s got the quality and build of the ostrich wing. The canvas is much higher quality on the Ostrich wing. The backing plate looks to me weaker on the 30 second awning. The arms don’t look as strong as they are on the ostrich wing. There’s more straps to fiddle with when setting up and packing up on the 30 second awning. And your purchasing the original not a copy which everyone goes on about here in Australia when you purchase the Ostrich wing. The Ostrich wing is the original 270 free standing awning. First made back in 2008. And it’s made in South Africa.
There’s one more thing that just came to mind. The 30 second has those heat sealed tapes that covers the stitching that don’t last in our Australian environment, The ostrich wing also has taped glued over the seams but it’s not that same stuff the use on the 30 second and many tents that peels of within a year. The tape looks to be much heavy duty and glued on, not heat sealed on the Ostrich Wing.
Hi, yes, I’ve been in storms and heavy rain. It keeps water out except for the gap between my 4wd and the awning. I’ve had to close my rear door while it rained. I did not fit the awning in myself, if I did I would not have set it up so far back. Not sure why they did this. I’m going to get a piece of canvas made up to shelter that gap.
@@allanpower8041 The static load weight is not given by Mitsubishi or any of the roof rack manufacturers. Static load is high, has to be to protect occupants in a turn over, I read somewhere it's often 3 times or 5 times the dynamic weight loading. So there's no issues sleeping up on your roof. I've had as many as 4 in my iKamper on the Pajero.
Quick question please Phil. I have a Prado 150 with similar barn door. Due to the nature of the triangle aspect at the rear, some of the awnings do not provide full coverage over the barn door when opened. Can you please let me know if the Ostrich provides that full coverage over the barn door when fully opened?
Good luck to you Phil with your awning, but at about $1700 not even fitted is wayyy too expensive!! I wish. I'll stick to the basic awning which takes a bit longer to set up. l have one at way less than tenth of that cost. If it breaks 5 times I'm still way ahead.
The Ostrich Wing is extremely convenient and it looks well made. Have you tried it in the rain ? I have seen some reviews that say they suffer from pooling, despite that little arm that pops up to help prevent pooling. Is that true ? Do they pool in the rain ?
Hi guys I have the same awning they do pool in the rain I found an easy and cheap solution I've got some guide ropes with some clips from Bunnings that you open and when you pull on them with the rope they lock onto the canvas I put those in the center between each pole and thats it it takes 5min if that .
@@georgee686 A mate gave me some tarp clamps that sounds similar to what you described. I found them yesterday. I think they will work perfectly. Basically they clamp onto tarp or awning and has a tie of point on it for the guy line. In saying this, I’ve seen a Video review on the Oatrich wing awning in the rain and it did not pool.
@@PhilsCampingReviews Hi phill when I say pool they gather a certain amount of water and then dumps it and just hope your not the one next to it lol, when I put those clips on they also act as a gutter.
G’day Phil awesome video. Just came across your channel. Wish I lived closer, I’d offer you some $$ for any of the awnings you do t use and would want to get rid of. Keep up the great work on your channel mate.

My gosh Phil, that awning. it's a dawning of a new awning without the yawning. I think we'll have to get that for our Landcruiser, that's ridonculous!
The Ostrichwing is by far the best, I'm still using it today and I can't ever see myself replacing it with anything else.
Dude, I have been researching this stuff for some time to try to avoid disappointments, thank you for this video and sharing your experiences.
Your welcome

Awesome. I'm glad I helped you out.
I'm a complete awning novice. I just learned heaps! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this excellent video 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the honest review, that looks like an awesome piece of kit 👍🍻
The Ostrichwing is my favourite freestanding awning.
What a fantastic video Phil.
You’ve gone through the brands 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the info mate. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

Awesome review I've been looking for, nice work.👌
Thanks.
Great review on awnings. Can you do a vid more on the walls and also a review on using the ladder and sleeping in the tent.

It looks exactly like the 30sec awning, is it the same ?
Similar. But not exactly the same. Ostrichwing has stronger frame and stronger better canvas.
would you ever consider selling any of these awnings?!
No. I will not sell any of these.
Can I get this in US?
The Ostrich Wing? I’d be surprised if you can’t.
