We didn’t have Fluorocarbon 20 yrs ago. Never had a problem catching fish. They never complained.

It’s a mystery how we caught plenty of fish w/mono b/f fluorocarbon was invented.

There was more fish in the ocean and the fish out there now are alot more boat and line shy.

Flurocarbon makes a massive difference, my setup was the only one catching fish compared to my mates that didn't use it, they caught 1 between them all

      I agree, Fluorocarbon is Proven.

I think more and more rec anglers who fish often are starting to realize this. I had a shop tell me I "need" fluro when I first started out and I have used it since, but with the dirty water in Brevard and fish are starting to move to more structure like docks and mangroves, i'd rather have the more abrasion resistance that mono provides. Also like you said, the price point is huge! More trips = more experience = more fish. Good looks!

Great video captain, I’ve switched over to mono as well due to the price difference. Both work well but one works for a whole lot cheaper.

I agree with you 💯 I have always used Ande mono as my leaders !!

Might be true for snook as you mention, but this isn't necessarily true for our clear water northern lakes for line shy Great lakes Smallmouth and even more so, fluoro leader used for abrasion resistance on musky and esox species. I've seen numerous times in both applications where straight fluoro and braid to fluoro leader or was the superior choice. Tight lines and glad you found a more cost effective method for your target species.

I totally agree and have used both premium and tournament grade Ande for 20 years! I have lost so many fish with floro to braid - where the leader mysteriously snaps on Hooksett! Also lost lots of expensive tacke on break offs on casts for no reason! Yep no to floro!

  • @stevepiacenza2426
    @stevepiacenza2426 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The only benefits I see is abrasion. If your casting with a mono leader, top waters and swimbaits its fine.if you are fishing chunk bait on a rocky bottoms I think floro is the way to go. I agree floro is way to expensive for what it is!!!

Been using ande mono for years. Not 1 issue. I have plenty of fluro in the cabinet and the price is 5x more then mono. Alot of fake chitter chatter fuels the hype about fluro. When that affordable ande mono does the same exact job for a fraction of the the price. I do alot of top water fishing in the surf. I carry a spool of mono with me all the time. Built tuff

  • @5bind

only pro difference is fluorocarbon is less visible underwater but that only takes a large affect on very few fish

I agree 100% but I'm not sure how pink Ande mono is stronger than clear. How in the world did you put this to any critical test.

Sorry bro but when you're fishing Backcountry lakes and nervous fish fluorocarbon is the difference between a hit and a swim by... There is a reason why EVERY fly fisherman uses flouro.

Flouro performance does not justify price. Regardless of what anybody says, people used to catch filthy piles of world record fish, and they did it with dacron, tied directly to a lure. Fish swim directly into and through gill nets. Fish simply do not care.

Me pop only uses red cajan mono leader. He will not use anything else. And we always used 8lb monofilament line on our light bass/crappie spinning reels. But I just bought some red label flora 8lb main line for my spinning reel. I hope it hangs in there

I salmon fish a lot on Lake Michigan. I did the same was broke as hell and needed flasher fly leader. $7 for wheel of Big game 50lbs leader vs $50 of a wheel of Fluoro. Did I notice a difference..... nope actually kinda like the little bit of stretch mono gives on big fish

    • @WhiteGhost21

edit: caught a 15# barred snapper this morning

Alot of fishermen feed into gimmicks that are marketed by their favorite professional angler... remember that they are getting paid to promote fluorocarbon line. You don't need fluorocarbon line to catch fish. Monofilament works just fine.

They sell "mono leader" but regular mono you spool your reels with is basically the same thing. I Prefer pink Ande Mono

I got 150 spools of mono leader ranging from 40-80lb I was for a while wiping out the Walmart leader spool every day before close and every morning before I would head home from the beach it's basically the only Walmart by the beach. Not only that but I'd wipe out their 4/0-8/0 perfect demon circle hooks I'd buy 4/0 5/0 6/0 7/0 and 8/0 hooks I pretty much bought $140 worth of tackle every time I'd go to the beach. I got so much leader spools to this day.

Fluorocarbon is so much better. Especially for Trout. Salt water fish are not as picky.
Id rather spend the money on Fluro.
You have an 80K nice boat and you don't wanna spend a few extra dollars for line that is invisible in the water?

    • @philippiansfourfour1081

It isn’t invisible in the water. Biggest lie in fishing. I can see the micro fractures in it in a poorly lit photo. Will be all that much more visible to a fish on a sunny day. Any line mono fluorocarbon, copolymer etc, that comes off a spool or wrapped in coils for packaging is going to have micro fractures. It. Fluorocarbon has even more micro fractures than mono because it’s stiffer. It also acquires an opaqueness when stretched. Has weaker knot strength than mono. And salt stronng’s test also proved it has less abrasion resistance than mono.
There’s also way more than ‘a few extra dollars’ in price. I can get literally 1 mile worth of 130 lb mono line for about $120. You know how much fluorocarbon I get for that same price in the same line rating? 30 yards. You obviously don’t know anything about saltwater big game fishing either if you think they aren’t picky.
