The MobileTV app probably was never released to the US, since the US uses ATSC for digital television communications. In Brazil we use ISDB-T, same as Japan. But the correct name is ISDB-Tb and for Brazil specially it's SBTVD (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão Digital or "Brazilian Digital Television System" in English). It's a completely different tech compared to ATSC, it can work everywhere mostly, you can literally just buy a tiny digital TV that uses 1seg or ISDB-Tmm as their comms tech. Actually Brazil improved the main specification the time ISDB come to Brazil (added support to H264 and etc.), that's why here it's called ISDB-Tb.
One major difference between the 1seg in Japan and in Brazil, is that 1seg in Japan runs at 15FPS, but in Brazil it runs at 30FPS, so you get a smoother picture.
When I say it can run everywhere mostly, is that a signal using ISDB will go far away compared to ATSC for example, and even DVB-T (Since ISDB-T is supposed to be a better alternative/evolution of the DVB-T standard)

I’ve purchased many mini tvs and karaoke type tvs in USA and USA no longer has these services so without some form of an adapter to do basically a screen share.. it’s a bit boring to that end. you can hook up a console to it though and that’s a good time too.. but Mobile tv is unreal! While watching this video, I realized that even though Android phones (especially older ones which are not flagship/mid-range level) almost do not get a software update at all, years after they have been discontinued they can still be usable to some extent because they can download some modern apps. It's the effect of the Android Operating System's fragmentation which is beneficial for people who are still using older Android phones/tablets. Not to mention that sideloading and custom ROMs can also drastically improve their experience.
Also, I can also feel the nostalgia with those games that you played with the device and I was also in school during those years. I'm 26; I think we're in the same age group 🙂
I still have mine. It's the 8GB version.
I was actually using it actively until a couple months ago and it ran most apps well on latest versions like instagram, youtube(not latest but a functioning version), twitter.

Man, I remember the struggle of having 8GB if storage. Glad I only used it as a secondary phone back around 2016 - 2019, my daily driver was the iPhone 4S which had 16GB storage.
Now pretty much every phone nowadays has at least 128GB of storage, it’s absolutely insane how far phones have come the last 4 years.
Now nowadays phones have 1TB...

as someone who was alive in 2015 and had a smartphone, these are indeed the *Essentials* 🍞
to me the essentials were danmaku death, n64 emulator(+the n64 essentials), bullet force, block city wars, minecraft PE 0.16, and gba emulator

Seeing people use outdated phones with outdated os on it is really cool! I have an OPPO A83 as my daily driver that was bought back in 2019 and has Android 7.1.1 in it. It still supports almost every apps but companies started dropping support meaning I will eventually have no options left except to buy a new one.
back in the early days it was common, people were still using, supporting, and developing for android 2.x in 2013
u can use a custom rom at some point but well its an oppo phone so might not have much options about custom roms!
That's the downside of using brands like Oppo that pretty much never update their phones. I had a Samsung A10 in 2019 (low end) that was updated till Android 11, with security patches up till Q1/2023

Oh hey! I had a regular J2 for the longest time, that was my main phone until 2019 when I replaced it with a Galaxy a90 5G and oh boy what a MASSIVE leap that was! Nowdays I just use my J2 for older android apps that can't run on modern android.
I had a J Luna pro from like 2016 through 2019. And then I got the enthusiastbog and started buying expensive flagships... Pixels, LG V60, But for years I lived on these cheap Samsung prepaids from Walmart
I've been using a samsung C9 since 2018, runs super well still.
cod roads to victory is an underrated game since its fun and has medium difficulty. 9/10 game would recommend if you dont care about graphics

If there was a 2023/2024 version of this phone with modern software, a modern chip set, and 256 gigs of storage then I'd daily drive this sucker. Call me old fashioned but I honestly do prefer the look of this phone over my current Samsung Galaxy s22 ultra. The physical home button, removable (swappable) battery, and headphone jack just hits all my boxes for a good phone, hell I honestly kinda like the borders on the screen, it gives my fat fingers something to hold on to without accidentally touching the damn screen when im not using a case.
i miss mine, it was such a good little phone for the price. they knew how to design a good shell back then. functional not pretty.

Brother I Have a Samsung J7 Prime which I'm using from like 4 years and it runs like butter and doesn't even lags idk how its the best phone and it's battery goes 1 days easily (Beating Apple😂). I still play genshin Impact and COD And it runs them smoothly. The best part is it doesn't even has a scratch on the screen due to the gorilla glass which is fire dude🎉. I think it could be used 3-5 more years. I still dont go into the option of going for a new phone coz it already fulfils all my basic and gaming needs. It was a flagship that time and still its camera is fire.

I am also using an old Samsung midrange phone, was released also in 2016 and it's still holding on strong.
It's the Galaxy C9 Pro, costed me around 600 dollars when it was released, did not expect it to last this long. So far besides software updates slowing it down and the battery turning into shit along the years, its pretty much still VERY useable
Just as a funny note, I'm literally running a Minecraft Server in my J2 Prime, if you want pictures, you can ask lol.

I have a galaxy alpha. LOVE the form factor but just heartbroken most apps dont run on it anymore. Hardware still seems fine and it's in relatively pristine condition with a removable battery but kneecapped by software..sigh... Planned obsolescence at its finest...

@@JayyyNz the galaxy alpha runs on an exynos chipset..so custom roms arent that strong. Plus it seems development for that phone has stopped as the last android version based on a quick Google search is android 8.1 only.. which is quite a bit behind current android 14...

Bro i had a samsung galaxy gran prime wich is older than the J2 the design is similar but the processor was pretty bad on the gran prime and only had suport until Android 4.2.2 and the battery was bad but i loved the phone 😂😂 now i have a samsung a03

heya, you should give a try on the Galaxy A family, it's a intermediary class of smartphones very well sold in Brazil by Samsung, they are really great phones, since they had a huge upgrade for its kind and have now a fair price for what it offers, since Xiaomi, a chinese tech brand arrived here around 2018 having good specs for a lower price, so it made other brands upgrade their low cost phones in the country, so you can get a decent phone as A33 for a fair price, and here we can use these phones for 3 or 5 years or more.

(By that i meant that in Early 2023 Roblox was pretty not heavy but after Late 2023 it started to become kinda laggy, But in Early 2024 it's laggy and in Late 2024 it's unplayable cuz you cannot download it because of the low storage and can't run it smooth because of low RAM.)
first phone i activated was a LG k7 also known as the LG Tribute 5 back in 2016 i was 18 got my first job at walmart and bought my first smart phone and had service i thought it was so cool lol than i got the galaxy on5 and loved that phone lol
back in 2015-17, to me, the essentials were danmaku death, n64 emulator(+the n64 essentials), bullet force, block city wars, minecraft PE 0.16, and gba emulator.
my phone was worse than the j2 being a rooted 4.1.2 samsung galaxy fame, it had 512mb ram and 2gb of internal storage.
for ppl like me who had a below average phone, the common practice was to
- root it, kingroot 4 life!
- strip it of all the Gapps and other bloatwares down to AOSP levels, it freed up much needed and precious hundreds of megabytes and also made it run faster without all the background processes
- overclock it(the galaxy fame in stock clock never really heated, so i was comfortable with adding 100mhz extra and it did heat up under stress but i never forced it too much)
- add a bit of swap ram on the SD card, android already has a bit of swap on internal storage too, so with it on the SD, the system has an extra data bus for swap, which is better
- add storage, i did have an 8gb sd card which to me was huge
- use foldermount to trick apps to save their stuff to sd card and think its internal storage, so i could finally install heavy apps and have them on the SD card instead, the likes of FL Studio Mobile and Ragnarok Mobile SIMULTANEOUSLY. (ON A FAME)
- mess with developer options to turn out animations and limit the amount of bkg processes
- use resolution changer tools to lower the internal resolution, to reduce load on the GPU and get more FPS
and some installed cyanogenmod to get it to android 6 and support more stuff, i didnt.
if one does that list of things on this J2 right there, it can fly like a Super Toucan!

unfortunately it only runs on the phones it was originally pre installed.. unless I am uninformed which is possible! you can try searching in the play store but yeah I believe its locked to the specific phones which originally had it.
I think you could extract The apk using an app but I'm not sure.

I have a SIM card already- also I left out that when I bought some other phones I asked for two adapters and they just gave me them “free” with the phones.
I always remember that me and my friends before used to owned that during our elementary and junior high days and i miss when phones are quite basic and simple, i didn't own a J2 prime before, ive had a J1 mini that i used before when i was in elementary, now im using a different phone now, my dad used to have a J7 prime before, after the J7 prime, he used a galaxy A8+, now my dad is currently using an S23 ultra

i saw a spanish ytuber said the j2 prime is not woth it because 8gb of storage and very slow, then another spanish ytuber take this seriously, he buyed on j2 prime, replaced battery, found webs, to root, and optimize, to the next level. the name of the ytuber is pete el androide. that phone was real $#/T, 1.5GB was too little, 8GB Storage was down to the bottom and 960x540 was over, this was okay for 2013 standards, but in 2016, its suffering time, this had the same exact specs like the s4 mini/zoom except quad core

The J2 Prime has a 16GB version too (and if I'm not mistaken there was a 32GB version somewhere on the world, but it's rare to find). I have the 16GB version, using it to run a tiny Minecraft server lol
