Also, G5 and G6 used the same processor, which was a very awkward decision, resulting in the G6 feeling like a one-year-old flagship phone.

That's true. Apple kept their name simple with just the version number. None of this LG V60 nonsense. BlackBerry had the same morning with the weirdest names like DTek, Priv, passport etc. That's why they all went bankrupt. Apple have always called their phone iPhones and nothing else.
LG's hardware was very creative, especially the LG Wing, however, it's difficult to introduce a new form factor in the age where a smartphone's success is determined if developers support and build applications for it. So LG had to make their own software to make their new Wing function. If you're not Apple or Google, it's very difficult to get developer support. Google has been trying since 2011 to get developers on-board to develop apps for its Android tablets. Now we have the foldable form factor, and Google and Samsung have been encouraging developers to support their new hardware. That's why phones are so boring right now, everything has to be uniformed like developing one app to fit all display sizes, so hardware makers made it easy by making 9:16 the standard. Now the new standard is somewhere close to 9:18, which means all phones look the same, just taller. LG tried their best to make third-party apps play well with their wing display, but without wide third-party support that's not enough these days and people will see it as a gimmick and just revert to using the regular portrait mode. Remember edge displays on flagship Galaxys? Weak software support, so Samsung had to build software to play well with the edge display like those mini applications that gave you information at a glance, but they were party tricks. And in 2024, no more edge displays for Galaxys which was the coolest differentiator for Samsung's flagships.
Edge displays looked nice but it wasn't practical to hold and prone to crack. It adds to the cost and the edges are useless. It also distorts the picture on the edges. Samsung took awhile to realize that. Motorola is the only edge phones now.
I just want to add that LG V10 and V20 used to be a more rugged flagship and has a dedicated second screen for multitasking it was for people who want more than the the G series but LG decided to change the phone direction which is a shame.
The V series are good phones. Basically the same as G with a second screen. But that's also silly. Why add another screen when you can join into a big continuous screen. LG could have succeeded if they made better phones with better software support.
Really sad that they didn't sell their smartphone division another company to keep their legacy, a company in my country (Vingroup) tried to negotiate a deal with them but failed to reach an agreement
They innovated and were first but Samsung and iPhone did it better. Still LG deserves recognition for first high resolution display, curved screen, modular phone, second status display line, rotating wing phone, wide angle camera. But software support was poor and every phone was just abandoned after. They also priced their phones too high. It's sad because they owned the phone market in the 2000s with LG chocolate, keybo phone, Dare and many iconic models. But after iPhone they fought hard for 15 years trying to carve a niche but Samsung just did it better. Also for a long time LG wouldn't put OLED screens on their phone even though they make OLED screens for TVs due to some internal pricing issue. Very strange.
LG had interesting designs. But hampered by hardware issues and that they got eaten out by Samsung in terms of quality. Not to mention the saturation of the Android market and the perception in Korea of “If you don’t use an iPhone you’re poor.”

LG's phones always made you happy to see the new phones of the year. They've always pushed the envelope when it came to design. One of LG's major issues though was how frequently their phones would lock up and get stuck in bootloop. Having industry leading displays, amazing battery life, functional quality of life features and much more sounds like a recipe for long term success but LG always has that one issue for some reason each generation of their phones there was always a considerable amount that would end up bootlooping. To the average consumer that's probably just filing an insurance claim to the seasoned techie this means going on forums and figuring out exactly what is wrong with your device and how to fix it. There's been points where you just completely throwing out your device was the best case scenario just because of how frustrating it is. I had most if not all LG phones from the G1 all the way to the v60 DS and I've had to deal with a bootloop at least half of those times did I fix it Yes but it's very obvious that was an issue through and through. There's also the fact that LG can never really get people fully on with the thinq system and it just felt like more of an afterthought on most devices but overall LG walked so a lot of these newer companies could run.
