I think someone else said it before me, but I always thought it makes sense: Razorbeard KILLED the Lum, so it's in the tomb of the ancients, which acts as some sort of Graveyard. It's Dead so it's there...being Dead. For who that Skull belongs to... Some Deko I guess by Razorbeards Wife from Rayman Arena? This Series is weird...
Wild idea, while Rayman 2 implies there are only 1000 lums which came from the heart of the world, Origins and Legends show that yellow lums exist outside of the heart of the world. These two facts can co-exist, the heart is made of 1000 lums and shattered, but there are still just yellow lums hanging out wherever and all Rayman has to do is collect 1000 of any yellow lums to fix the heart, and there just so happen to be 1000 across each level he visits because video game.
Well the thing is, in Origins and Legends, they're simply referred to as "Lums" as opposed to being called Yellow Lums. My personal take is that Lums and Yellow Lums, despite being mostly the same color (the Lums in the UbiArt games are a light yellow while the Yellow Lums in R2 are golden), are different types of Lum.
Hahaha! That’s crazy that you came across this video so fast as well! Hope you don’t mind me using the footage, it was perfect to help show my point :)
@corkben It's fine. I just wish someone else would have remade the footage of the 3DS version with an emulator or capture card by now, but it's not a great version to go through.
"If you don't know it and you don't love it then why did you click on this video?" Because I have Aspergers and I like learning about weird topics, please continue. 👀
I remember watching a Rayman 3D video of somebody collecting the lum and during the video they said 'Razorbeard must've used the skull as an outhouse to get rid of the lum after eating it'
There’s actually a hidden scene of razorbeard shitting out the lum in a lake, but it’s only unlocked after beating the baby globox racing game 50 times and any wins after that has a small chance of showing the cutscene.
My guess is that the area with the Skull was the original path to get through Tomb of the Ancients. However, when the Level got changed later on, the Skull Area was never blocked off to prevent Rayman from reaching it.
Interesting theory, but I don't really think it's that complex. The lum died, so you can find it in the graveyard themed level. I think that's about as deep as it goes. I also don't think Razorbeard ate it to gain power. He just did it to be sadistic.
another theory, razorbeard eating the yellow lum was a display of power in front of his minions, and he then removed it coz he didn't find a use for it yet, and he only needed to destroy the heart of the world which made rayman weaker. So Razorbeard disposes of the lum, maybe where no one can see him, coz there are robo zombies so robo pirates generally avoid the tomb of the ancients.
Y’know, in the GBA version of Rayman 3, the lum count’s limit is 999, until you unlock the ‘lum challenge’ which serves as sort of a final level that you unlock for beating the rest of the game 100% and houses the 1000th lum. Not really a theory, just something to point out.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape and outright the greatest rayman game of all time. But as Razorbeard ate the Lum, the platform-driven nature of the game ate Rayman's ability to fly (#Rigged). It is like not having Super Sonic playable in few Sonic titles after completing them or collecting everything. Being allowed to fly around would've been an epic reward for getting 999/999 Lums and not having that still messes with me till today.
Loving your videos man! Growing up 20 years ago I didn’t think anyone loved Rayman and Beyond good and evil as much as me! I bought a steam deck and the Remastered BGE + Rayman emulations are my main thing to do! Anyway would you consider doing a video on the desert of the knaren? That place scared the pants off me (still does!)
@@dylandogroc8804 thanks! I’m glad it’s not just me who loves these games. I’ve got a video going through ever world of Rayman 3 coming soon, but yeah I’d be tempted to do one just for that world too!
Erm actually Rayman Revolution is the most canon version you see, because there are no Lums in the Cave Of Bad Dreams there, and it doesn't make sense for there to be Lums there you see.
I could have sworn, that the lum counter would return to X/1000 after colecting the dead lum, but I honestly only saw that lum once on the PS2 version when a friend of mine showed it to me, so I'm most definetly remembering that one wrong :D nice video, verry entertaining!
I believe it did change back on the PS2 version but no other ones. It’s less of a secret in the PS2 port with the game heavily hinting/guiding you towards its. Thank you! 😁
According to the Origins game manual, Jano was supposed to be in the game. He was the creator of Dark Lums. Or was it Darktoons? I forget which... So you're not wrong about scrapped content.
I've played pretty much all versions of Rayman 2 (except DS) and, yeah, this mystery always kind of bugged me. I always wondered why the developers bothered to have that extra Lum if it didn't count towards to overall total. The secret Lum is really out of the way, so chances are most new players aren't going to find it intentionally. Regardless, this is my personal favorite of all the Rayman games as it has some of my favorite set pieces in the series. Rayman 3 was decent (and charming), but it lacked a certain something compared to 2. I would love to see a true follow-up to Rayman 2 with the same sort of energy and atmosphere. There were some amazing 3D platformers in the late '90s and Rayman 2 still stands tall among them!
My Rayman continuity theory is that all three of the first games are set in different universes. Rayman, Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 are the names of the characters, not the titles of their adventures.
I clicked on this video cause your channel keeps popping up in my feed. I've only played Rayman origins and Legends but i hope Rayman gets more games 2D or 3D.
ive been binge watching some of your videos and they have all been great and have reintroduced me to rayman after a decade! prehaps ill give rayman 2 a go again soon though may i ask what background music is used in your videos im not too familiar with the rayman soundtracks as it has been so long all i know is that my ears like what it hearing
For each video I typically just use tracks from their respective game. So for this one I used the Tome Of The Ancients’ level theme. The Sanctuary of Rock and Lava theme. Riding The Shell, and Clark :)
I assume the 3ds bounce web pad thing doesn't work because the devs made it not bouncable on purpose because the 1000th lum crashes the game, which is why the lum is unreachable
My answer is that the 1000th still exist cause no matter your Lum count at the end Ly conformed that the Heart of the world reformed and it is even conformed in Rayman Hoodlums' Revenge, Rayman 3 GBA and Rayman Raving Rabbids GBA/DS does have 1000 lums, also EVERY version are canon
The way I've always seen it is that the 1000th lum straight up "died" and therefore ended up wandering in this graveyard-like level. Also yes, the 3DS version is absolute trash and this game breaking crash was the last straw that made me sell it back lol.
I don't think Razorbeard could have consumed the Yellow Lum to become more powerful. I think the pirates are fueled by robotic version of rum; oil or some other processed chemical, which byproducts they dump into the rivers. So after being done chewing the Lum he simply discarded it like a piece of gum. Thinking this makes me prefer the cutscene of Razorbeard eating a Red Lum, even when it's less impactful. R3 on GBA Razorbeard wanted to use the Black Lum to become more powerful, those being malicious energy. It makes sense as the pirates drop Red Lums when defeated, Black Lums being from Red Lums. Red Lums are said to contain vital energy, life. Yellow Lums are the energy of the world, which pirates are polluting. They need life energy not magical energy. Thus the oil they consume is similar to the real world: ancient life, buried deep for millions of years.
Really? Lucky!! I know you can exit out the level after getting it BEFORE going down the slide afterwards. It seems that level warp is the part that’s broken
Razorbeard KILLED the Lum, so it's in the tomb of the ancients, which acts as some sort of Graveyard. It's Dead so it's there...being Dead. For who that Skull belongs to... Some Deko guess by Razorbeards Wife from Rayman Arena? This Series is weird...

It does, Just vaguely. There are easter eggs refering to Rayman 1 & 2 in 3. It would be cool to see what happened inbetween the games though to make a more defined timeline.
It's like every Rayman Game is just it's own Timeline. Constantly building a new world. It's not just the story that doesn't connect. Really NOTHING does. Notice how in Rayman 1 EVERYTHING is limbless. Every Boss, pretty much every Enemy, some of Raymans Allies. But in 2 Rayman is the only limbless one left. 2 and 3 are more simular on that part, but they are also waaaay different with the characters. Really think they are not supposed to be connected. The Only Games I can remember with continuos Storys are Rayman 3 and it's "Sequel" Hoodlus Revenge on the GBA. That's the only Time the Story actually continued in another Game
I for one do believe you. I’m the one who predicted/theorised about his return originally anyway. Plus Ubisoft themselves confirmed it. Anyway he has a release in 2025
All dead Lums go to the tomb of the ancients
All lums go to heaven
The tomb is the pirates personal sewer.
That lums counter going from 1000 to 999 is absolutely brilliant. It's a form of meta storytelling that can only work in the medium of video games.

I always assumed the implication was that Razorbeard pooped it out, albeit a joke that doesn't really fit the tone of R2
