    I played my first round with my new Sim2"s and couldn't have been happier with my purchase. I usually shoot around a 92-95 and got an 88 on the first round of the year. And I don't even know my yardages yet for these new clubs. All I can say is that they are very forgiving and long.

    I like this review. Rather than watching some 300 yards scratch handicapper hit balls all day long on here, while trying not to fall asleep, you just get to the stats. I dont know good you play so the only thing I would add is a mid and high handicappers stats too. Thanks!

    I just got the sim 2 max in today. They were on sale, $100 off and I had a gift card. I’m pumped as my irons before these were blades and not very forgiving (im somewhat new and the guy at golfsmith, when it existed, said they would be a great club for me). • @mikem3726
    @mikem3726 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Nice review. I knew after your aesthetics rating you weren't choosing the Ping G425. However, I disagree about the looks and also feel you over weighted that part of the scoring considering they all look a little thick on top and you aren't looking at the back during the most critical phase of any shot. Based on the more important, IMHO, areas for any game improvement iron, and the ratings from the other areas, I think the Ping G425 would've won as it did well in every category, other than looks. Again, its all subjective. I'll be trying out the Ping soon, and may try the Sim2. I've already hit the Callaway Apex, Taylormade P790, Mizuno 921's and the Srixon ZX5s. Of those, the Apex and P790 worked best for me with P790 being ever so slightly better, but I need to swing the G425s to compare. Thanks again for a great review!

    • @LetsPlayThru
      @LetsPlayThru  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, you may be right. I might've weighted looks too heavily. We all have our biases, and I could've been a bit too shallow here. Beyond looks though, bigger does mean harder to get out of the rough. So there is that, but your point is valid none the less. Its' a solid club and the best choice for many out there, no doubt. For me it was splitting hairs but that added distance / spin put the SIM 2 over the top. Just depends on your needs.
      I did a review of the p790s a few weeks back. I'll try to work in a comparison with the ones you've suggested, but in the meantime here's the standalone review: th-cam.com/video/sZb3dZeBfjM/w-d-xo.html

    I will be looking to get some new irons over the winter and have the Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal irons at the top of my wish list. Since you did not review them until after this video, I am wondering where you would rank them on this list. I also have the Apex DCB and Sim2 Max on my list as well and possibly the Ping 425. Want to keep the fitting down to a reasonable amount of time. Good comparison - I like the criteria set but would have liked to see you add sound along with feel. It is hard sometimes to tell the sound watching videos. One thing I like about my Mizunos is the sound. Anyway, thanks for the videos and I wish you well with your upcoming ankle surgery and look forward to seeing you back as soon as possible. AE

    So I have had 137 rds for chemotherapy starting playing golf at 33 years old when I got cancer almost 10 years ago. It also took me 10 years to test days after chemo to test what I would play 90% of the time vs the 3 to 5 days when I was at my physical prime so testing 3 to 5 after then 10 to 14 then 17 to 21 days after treatment and the ping g425 with a Graphic shaft and there power plus lofts were the best to find for me the Callaway Epic Speed was the best driver 3 wood off tee plus super hybrid has been the best off the deck and the cobra 7 wood best 5 iron in my bag hahahaha. Thanks so much to Peninsula golf in San Mateo California for working with me so closely and helping me out with everything I needed it such a long process. !!! And another questions feel free and ask. He even let me use reg and stiff shafts during the month until we can up with a plan reg flex driver and 3 wood the shift 75 gram 3 super hybrid and shift cobra speed 7 wood. Took my ego almost 10 years to even think about this way and my game is talking off breaking 85 weekly at the home course next goal break 82 then shoot 79!!!

    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The line down the center of the top of the Cobra RadSpeed would be a total distraction for me. I don’t think I could hit them. For me I can’t seem to hit a Taylor made iron well. I have tested them and for some reason, other than having a bad swing, I can’t hit them vs other irons. I will be testing irons in the near future and for me the longest, straightest will be the winner for me.

I picked the right club that works for the job no matter what the brand is. If you are really serious it might be worth finding a fitter. But if you were just casually getting back into the game, my advice would be to simply visit your local golf shop and a competent sales associate should be able to get you a relatively decent setup.

    Nice review. I haven't played in years and have a set of 704.cb's. Hit the Sim2's today and was very surprised. These are not the GI's from circa 2002-2004, which the rest of my equipment is from. The jacked up loft 7iron was going 170 on the fly and very tight dispersion. I hit the mizuno hot metal and those felt pretty good too. I'd like to hit the Sim 4iron, 19*. Always been a decent iron and wedge player, much better than driving anyway. • @ggmorris71
    @ggmorris71 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good review. However , think of the buyers in the category of “Game Improvement”. Workability is a very suspect category. Workability has to be very low (well almost non existent) for these buyers - they want it go straight. I had mostly same experience, Ping 425 on open range is hard to hit a bad shot, but the didn’t feel better than a forged club. Sorry not my experience nor the golfers that day hitting Callaway, Sims and Pings. I would have put the Callaway DCB’s in this category not the regular Apex. Finally, I am impressed with Ping ‘s cheaper price for an exceptional iron and they include Arccos grips standard which is HUGE. Ping is an amazing value all the things considered. But without question Callaway’s felt the best and had the best dispersion on the open range. Just overpriced - ugh.

    • @LetsPlayThru
      @LetsPlayThru  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very valid point in regards to workability. Although I do think for folks who are getting a bit older and need more distance but still want the feel of their old players irons this could be a selling point for them. That’s why I decided to include it.
      You are also right about the feel. None of these Clubs are going to be as good as my Mizuno forged irons 😀 - but I think they’ve all improved significantly over the last few years.
      The Apex dispersion is incredible. I was blown away.

    I just got my 425’s for my 1st fitted clubs and love them.
    I don’t think carry distance should be as much of a factor because all of these minus maybe the Williston’s your going to get fitted for and you always decrease your loft if you need the extra range. My ranges are similar to yours thou I don’t know why you would need more range when you should be hitting 220-230 with your 4 iron off the deck any longer and I go to 5 or 3 wood it’s not like your going to hit 200+ out of the rough with anything.

  • @rvfan96
    @rvfan96 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review!! I would like your opinion on my situation as I am considering one of these game improvement irons. I've been playing 5-6 y so far. Took about a year off just to get back to it at the beginning of this year. Before the break, I was hitting 85 consistently and then it went to 95 when I got back to it. Recently scores have been going down quickly to 82-85 (GHIN from 21 to 15) and I'm sure I can bring it down some more soon. I have been using Mizuno JPX 900 tour for the last 3years. Just now I notice that my clubs' lofts are very weak cuz it's tour version. I can't even hit 160y carry with 7 iron. Average 155y only. I should've gotten game improvement irons back then. I begin to struggle as I go down to 4 iron with which I hit 185y average only because there is like 25 y gap between 4 iron and 4 hybrid I hit. I have 3 driving iron (gapr mid) which I hit 230y. between 3-9 irons, hydrid, 3 wood, driver, puttter and 3 wedges, I already max out to 14 clubs and there are this huge gap between 4 hydrid and 4 iron and between pitching(46) and 52 wedge.
    I am pretty decent to shape the ball and don't want to lose the ability. I lose lots of strokes on putting and approach (huge gap between P and 52). I keep practicing 52 wedge in order to hit 100 y but I can hit it barely with full shot on the condition that there is no up slope and face wind. So I end up being short lots of times on the course so recently started hitting pitching wedge for 100y shot with grip down but it's not consistent as it's a 2/3 shot.
    Since these clubs go miles compared with mine, the gapping at 4iron would be very small or in fact, I probably wouldn't even need to carry 4 iron anymore. My 4 iron is 24 degree and Sim2 max and Cobra Radspeed's 6 irons have same loft lol. And I noticed that most of the clubs you reviewed also have 42-45 pitching wedge (similar to mine). would you change the clubs to one of these or would you just keep trying to work on your game? I am very confident that I can break 80 in a few months and I would really hate to have to change clubs again to players irons when the time comes.
    Thanks!

    • @LetsPlayThru
      @LetsPlayThru  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well first off, congrats on getting those scores lower. Sounds like you're making some great improvements. These irons are squarely in the game improvement category. Sounds like you're past that a bit, or at least in the process of moving past it. I think my suggestion would be to find something in between. Something like a JPX Hot Metal or Taylor Made P790. These will provide the best of both worlds, a slightly stronger loft with a more forgiving face. Hope that helps.

    Have a question for you! Have a solid discount to get Sim2's for the cheapest of them all, but when I went to get fitted I hit the D9's better than all of the rest. I felt like it was heavier with a lower center of gravity and it was translating to a more consistent swing for me. HOWEVER, I am a bad and inconsistent golfer, and it is highly possible I just got into a little rhythm with the D9s, like fools gold... Would I be crazy to pay more money for a set of D9's than Sim2s because i hit them better for a bit at the range? Thanks!

      Well I think my best advice would be to give it another shot if you can. That way you can confirm if it was just a fluke or if it was the real deal. But I will say the Wilson’s are very fairly priced. And if you are able to purchase at a place like Edwin Watts they offer a 90 day moneyback guarantee. Just in case you have any buyers remorse.

    • @midnight4109
      @midnight4109 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing I've found about the Sim2 is that it seems to be intended for slightly better, lower handicapped golfers who don't need the control of the others. RadSpeed great, as long as you have good loft, otherwise you won't get the longer distance they claim. Apex the best, Callaway has a knack when it comes to high handicappers, but also the most expensive by far. I went with the D9s for what Gabe calls all around value. Very close to any of the others except price wise.
