Just saw Band of Friends last night at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. I have seen a lot bands in my time, and no one - and I mean no one has ever rocked as HARD as this trio. I've seen a a LOT of guitarists too, and I play myself. It's awe inspiring and humbling to hear what Mr. Knowels can do with a beat up old Telecaster, a vintage AC30, and a tiny pedal board. I have never seen anyone play rock/blues guitar like this guy. Seriously. He's the best I have ever seen - and I've seen him twice now live, so the first time was no fluke performance. He's on the same plane as any of the greats. Technically better and more inventive than many of them. Who would have though innovation was still possible within the blues-rock guitar genre? It's all been done before, right? Nope. What this guy does with modified pentantonic scales should be rated X. No minors allowed. It's that hardcore. Oh, and he can sing too. Like I mean, hair-standing up on the back of your neck singing. While tearing into a blistering riff. He would blow Clapton out of the water - probably why he's never been invited to Crossroads Guitar Festival - he'd embarrass a lot of the greats. The only reason he's not a superstar is because this sort of music is out of fashion. Kids today want Autotuned Kanye - Cold-play - Beyonce pop pablum, not lock-up your daughters, hide the silverware and grab the earplugs and shotgun hard-rock blues. Talk about devil music: Davey's guitar playing could impregnate millions of mid-west bible belt daughters if it were ever aired over FM radio. It's inspiring to see a young player like him taking hard rock and blues to new places, and keeping the legacy of the genre fresh and exciting. With guys like Davey and his band-mates around, Rock and Roll really will never die.....
I was also there, two rows down from the drunk Birthday Boy, in front of Gerry, who along with Randy Jo Hobbs (Johnny Winter) was one of my bass Heroes that made me switch to bass. I've seen Rory and Co. about 10-11 times since 73 and DK did Rory a solid. I've seen BOF before but DK changed the energy of the bad to a higher plain. DK was the most energetic, fiery guitarist I have seen in in along time. The fact he actually looked like he was having fun didn't hurt either. All in all you are dead right on all points.
Clapton has the name i have met him & seen him close up live an innovator but I know many that are better as such but remember Davy learned from the legends Rory Hendrix Beck Jimmy Page Clapton & hundreds of others but he is in the mould of needing few effects one of the few old school in the young team not forgetting my pal Manny Charlton never uses more than three individual pedals 🤔
I saw Davy and BDS open for Chickenfoot several years ago. As soon as he said this next one is from one of my idols, then played Messin’ With The Kid I knew I was gonna like this guy!
I'ts 50 years since I saw Rory play live. This brings it all back. Thanks for keeping Rory,s music alive.Awsome.Real musicians playing blues rock. Stunning set, reckon this is as good as it can get( in my opinion of course).Rory would be proud of these guys.r.i.p.Rory.
Watched Buckethead at the Ardmore Music Hall and was blown away!! Then I watched Joe Bonamassa play Royal Albert Hall and was blown away again.........But this?!!?! I've never seen anything like this!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
RIP Ted saw him and this band numerous times and always a rokin band ,only last gig in Leicester just before Christmas last ,stood next to Ted at the bar and offered him a pint , can’t believe it soooo sad.
Fantastic...been a Rory fan since I first heard him back around 1980. Never heard of Davy Knowles but he's got Rory down with his own touches thrown in.....and to have Rory's bandmates rounding it all out is very nice.
Caught these guys last night in Hermosa Beach, CA. Outrageously good show. Rory was already gone by the time I discovered how great he was, but Davy absolutely shredded with Gerry and Ted. Rory would have been proud.
Rory was one of the best guitar players ever! But I would have have to put Davy right up there with with Rory. Great singer and songwriter, and unreal guitarist! I wish I could have seen this show with Gerry and Ted! WOW AMAZING!!!!
I saw these guys 5 days before this show and this video captures the feel and excitement very well. I've been a fan of Davy for almost 10 years and of Rory since the 70's. What might not be obvious on video is the freakin FORCE OF NATURE that is Gerry McAvoy- who will be 70 yrs old this year. And Ted McKenna (RIP) was non-stop power the whole show. God Bless this trio of brilliant musicians, for their skill and for keeping Rory's legacy going.
This is the most amazing stuff I have seen in forever. I found it last night on TH-cam and it’s literally been playing ever since. Goosebumps 100 mile an hour stuff.... The Real Thing..... wow.
I've lost my mind for ever. Einer der grössten Bluesrock- Gitarristen aller Zeiten. Thank you Rory for your great music. Thank you Natasha for this great video. I love this sound. Strato' for ever!!!

Natasha, 1.000.000 Thanks are not enough for your Fantastic work. Thanks to you, I'm always at the concert in front of the first row... Big Hello from France.
Saw this band a few years ago when they had an amazing Dutch guy Mark Scherpenzeel on the guitar along with Gerry and Ted. What a great night's music that was.
Gerry is always smiling and having a good time ,the ultimate musician to have in your band, never seen anyone work harder to pump up the audience than him, awesome
Going to see them at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park. Sound great Can't Wait. Saw Rory in NYC opening for the Jefferson Starship. He blew them off the stage. People either yelled for Rory through their set or left. Nice to see his music kept alive by Davey and original members
Fucking close to Rory as you'll get. Done with a lotta love and dedication. Davey runs with the same Rory's themes of plaid and a beat up guitar, he grew up with this and you can tell.
Well done all of you! More people have to hear this! Peace to Rory! Kudos to the band that plays on! Gerry really makes it happen. Golden when the bass and drums carries it and the lead guitar can just go anywhere, yet you still hear the song.
Thanks for sharing this. I love your videos! Davy is doing a great job. He's not Rory but that doesn't devalue the performance at all. He's a fantastic player with a great voice! A fantastic song writer too. Check out his own band if you haven't!

Unreal
Mr. Knowels's guitar seems to be very like Rory's Strat
Give it up for Gerry McAvoy. Best BassFace in the biz. Shout out to Davy for the Rory shirt.
Met him last year at a concert. Did I nice vid for me and photos. What a gent and really a beautiful human being.

Thank you Davy, Gerry and Ted for your amazing musicianship and for keeping Rory alive. Been Rory-ized since 1980.
Started listening to Rory as a young USAF guy in Italy 1980, discovered Davy in NH in 2009.

dude has some serious chops.
This is the most amazing stuff I have seen in forever. I found it last night on TH-cam and it’s literally been playing ever since. Goosebumps 100 mile an hour stuff.... The Real Thing..... wow.
NIck, you haven't lived til you've seen Davy live. He's the only musician I've seen live more than 3 times. I think I've been to 6 shows.

One of my favourite guitarists covering songs by one of my favourite guitarists.
Never heard Davy on a Strat before. Dam that sounds good! One of the best Strat tones I’ve ever heard.
He's using his Fender Custom Shop " Rory Gallagher" Tribute Stratocaster. Lovely guitar

That's all right, my mistake. I restored it. Thank you.
I learned to play guitar back in the 70s.by listening to all those albums and playing a long . Some.of those classics I am sure I played along with.
