  • Lesley's ground breaking research is a milestone for not only degenerative diseases but health conditions of all types. It's a step towards personalised medicine. Get a glimpse of the future of medicine
Lesley’s work at on Molecular Science involves developing a blood test for the early detection of brain conditions such as Alzheimer’s Disease. She uses basic science, automation, Next-Generation technologies and big data to profile hidden genetic material called "exosomes". Research applications are not limited to disease diagnosis and may be used to understand healthy ageing, develop new therapies and improve health.

Role of biomarkers - There are several widely investigated biomarkers for the molecular and degenerative process of AD that can be supportive of a diagnosis of AD but are not yet recommended for routine diagnostic purposes (table 2) [12]. Such testing can add incremental confidence to a clinical diagnosis of AD, however, and can be useful in certain circumstances, including early-onset dementia and atypical presentations of AD in which the differential diagnosis includes other non-amyloid neurodegenerative diseases such as FTD.
Molecular biomarkers of Aβ protein deposition include:
●Low cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Aβ42 (or Aβ42:Aβ40 ratio)
●Positive amyloid PET imaging using one of the amyloid PET tracers
Biomarkers of tau deposition (a key component of neurofibrillary tangles) include:
●Increased CSF total tau and phospho-tau
●Tau PET imaging using flortaucipir F-18
In addition to these molecular biomarkers, there are several topographic or neurodegenerative biomarkers used to assess the downstream brain changes that correlate with the regional distribution of neuronal dysfunction and eventual neuronal death associated with AD [150]. These include medial temporal lobe atrophy on MRI and reduced glucose metabolism in the temporoparietal regions on FDG-PET.

Early diagnosis is no doubt is a great advancement. It is not just talk but a motivation and hope as well. Fingers crossed for treatment by ultrasound methods

What is this test called? My mother was afflicted... and I'm at the age that she was becoming dependent.
My sister has Parkinson's... but so far, I am vigorous, creative, and healthy....

HSV-1 and HSV-2 has been linked to Alzheimer's. After days of awful headaches I already feel less sharp after being exposed. This came after a week of back and neck pain, and shooting pains in arms and legs. Count yourself lucky as I suspect this disease causes a lot of problems people experience as they get older.

We live longer "as an average of population, not overall'. Just 60 years ago as a person surviving to your 80s you would likely survive to 100.The average comes from illnesses at a younger age like infections.

And yet, to my knowledge, the test is still not available..

I looked on the internet and among several companies it is estimated the blood test to be available this year (2022) or 2023.
I found this on the internet:
“The pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, could distinguish Alzheimer's disease from other neurodegenerative disorders by elevated levels of p-tau217 - and with high accuracy (between 89 and 98 percent). That degree of precision is similar to that of positron emission tomography (PET) imaging and cerebrospinal fluid tests, and superior to other blood tests.
In individuals with a gene causing Alzheimer's disease, higher levels of p-tau217 were detectable 20 years before symptom onset.
"Even though it's not a cure, [this test] would be a huge step forward,” says Sarah Lenz Lock, senior vice president for policy and brain health at AARP and executive director of the AARP-founded Global Council on Brain Health. “I have heard from so many families struggling to get an answer as to what's wrong. Patients and families could really use this to help them plan and cope. This is great news. It puts us on the right path to improve care and help people better manage this chronic disease sooner.”
Blood test could be available in two years
Oskar Hansson, M.D., a researcher from Sweden's Lund University and corresponding author on the JAMA study, says it will likely be another two years before the blood test that he and his colleagues studied is available in doctors’ offices. (Other research groups are testing and developing p-tau217 blood tests as well. Some also presented their findings at AAIC 2020.)
Once there, however, he and Reiman see it being used by specialists to help diagnose individuals experiencing memory problems, and eventually, by primary care physicians as a screening tool - especially if more preventive therapies or interventions for Alzheimer's disease become available.”

If you want to relieve the symptoms of Alzheimer's or dementia disease take an eyebrow tweezers and remove the hair follicles from the patients hands, feet, and wrists. This should have an immediate effect on their well being.
