  • I am getting ready to pull the motor out of this 2005 Toyota Tacoma. I am building this truck, or whats going to be left of the original truck into a truggy.
Fully frame fabrication, new transfer case, one ton axles, 42' tires, 4 links front and rear. It's going to be intense and this is only the beginning!!!

I love the fact that Branden gets paid to hang out with his best friend. Yes, y’all work hard but it doesn’t feel like work when you get to do it with your bestie ❤

I watch Nomadic Movement as well as Trent and Allie, so I hope there isn't something like what happened to them when they were paying a friend on the land to work for them and it all went bad and friendships were lost.

Trent, here are just a few of my thoughts after reading all the comments.
    1. My wife and I have binged watched all the T&A videos after first seeing you on Wild Wonderful Off Grid, we are retired, and we enjoy wholesome content for our entertainment, and we have a lot of time on our hands.
    2. What a great blessing it is to have all the hard work you and Allie put into your TH-cam channel to make enough funds to be able to pay your way and also hire your best friend to help you build your dreams and have a blast doing it. By the way Brandon is awesome and you two work well together.
    3. Lighting is just fine and no need to take a boatload of pictures, just play back you video's and reverse the process.
    4. I don't mind you talking thru the projects, that's a big reason why your other channel is such a big success, the interaction between you and Allie. Now it's guy time, in a garage, you and Bradon can clown around all you want, longer videos would be just fine. It'll be great.
    5. Last but not least, just keep doing what you're doing. Trent, look at all you've accomplished in 35 years of life, a beautiful family, traveled the world, built vans and a great home with your own hands, a new business to provide for your family, you're living the dream that most will never have the opportunity to live. Thank God for these blessings and I'd like to thank you and Allie for letting us be part of your life's journey.

Oh, this got me emotional because I share your sentiments. It's just amazing watching how hard Trent works, thinks outside the box, and is not afraid to fail. He corrects things when they go wrong. He has a beautiful wife, his partner, and a good friend (Brandon) working alongside him. He is a family man who loves his mom, his grandparents, his in-laws, and his sisters. There are not so many Trents out there, and my tears are with awe because of the impression he leaves on me. Has anyone noticed when his beautiful, kind-hearted wife complements him? He always says thank you. It may be a simple thing, but he'll always say thank you. 👏
I say thank you for visiting my house via your videos on both channels. God bless you abundantly. 🙏 Love from the United Kingdom ❤.

SUGGESTION: I don’t know if you can do it, BUT before dismantle anything, TAKE A PICTURE of what you’re working on. Then later on you can see where things were to help you rebuild.

The whole time Trent is worrying about how he will remember how to put stuff back together - I’m thinking … just watch the video and see what you did there. Hopefully Ali is saving all this footage securely so that it won’t be recorded over.😂

Trent … the internal struggle is real … do I take the engine out or not ….. I don’t wanna ……. But I’m going too anyway 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I argue with myself every time I do a big project like that too it’s awesome 😂👍🏻👍🏻
Your doing great , it’s nice to watch whatever you do , and I usually just tape the connector ends with blue tape on all my wires as well as writing in sharpie ,the side it’s on and what the connector goes too because who knows with a project how long it will be till you get to hook it up again 🤷🏼‍♂️
    It helps a bit..

Hey Trent, I did this same job for a friend, to a point. I was repairing the rusted frame on an 05 Taco. I managed to have it stripped down to the frame and axles in about 8-10 hours. I found out that it wasn't necessary to remove the fenders. I lifted the bed, then lifted the cab and front end as one unit. That made lifting the engine, transmission and transfer case as one. Took a little longer to put it all back together.

Just kinda of curious why you bought the wrecked truck if you are rebuilding everything for your Crawler?? Would it been easier to just buy a used motor & go from there? Just not sure what you will use other than the motor? Great Channel Trent..Will give you credit that you tear into anything, auto or home projects & have the confidence that you will figure it out, good for you..fear stops a lot of good projects but confidence promotes a lot of visions..My wife of almost 47 yrs watch your T&A channel & now I follow your Garage channel..Retirement for us both gives us time to watch what we enjoy..Stay safe & be well.. I think my favorite part of this channel is that it's not some super shop with half a million in tools. No CNC machines and benders, notchers, shears, all hydraulic. I took no notice of the lighting which is a great sign. There is no issue there. I know how challenging it is dismantling complex components that the engineers sometimes overlook. They will build around previous mounting screws and take little notice of what that means if the day comes when it has to be dismantled. The way you know how to get at mounting screws and hanging brackets comes from experience. Things are getting exciting. Frame fabrication! The fun stuff.

Definitely tie the frame to the lift. Measure for clearance / protection for oil pan transfer case, tranny before you cut off clip. Plan to possibly cut out floor pan for transfer case, driveshaft? Rack or steering box? Layout the new chassis and all the pick up points with motor pulled. Tack all of the new chassis together and move suspension up and down (w/out coil overs) check all clearance with wheels turned right and left etc) in the event that you need to make structural adjustments with new tube frame. Fox coil overs have a ton of travel as you guys know.
You guys are awesome, I’m enjoying every upload. Oh, and the lighting is better.

Trent, I like the running commentary. Knowing what's running through your mind adds to the video. As far as lighting, the general lighting is great. Whenever you are underneath the truck or working "Under the hood" you need supplemental lighting, either small pods or head lamps. Most camera's will attempt to adjust for lighting but if there are dark areas, below bright areas, they can't adjust for both at the same time.

when dealing with wiring... painters tape and a sharpie are your best friend. You should have chosen an older truck without everything computer controlled. While the engine is out, its a good idea to replace every seal and gasket..... .always cut before you disconnect the fuel lines.
Edit: If you are pulling the cab, set the frame down on blocks and use 2 2x12 through the windows and raise it with the lift arms

Nah just sell the engine and buy a Cummins diesel for it Trent.
Those Tacoma motors don't have enough power for what your wanting to do with the truck.
It will have a hard time just rolling the tires over to get moving haha.
Maybe add some rubber bands and squirls to give that yota motor a boost LOL

Although its been a while since doing what your attempt to do is... there are very few wires necessary to run the engine. Find the schematic that points you in this direction and then its going to be a ton easier to make the modifications. Of course with the madness of swapping everything to LS engines, there are tons of those. Your best source of information is another channel who specializes in this vehicle/engine. One of the very most important pieces of your puzzle is to NOT TAKE ANYTHING to the scrap yard till you have this engine/body in a running status. Some of the most crazy little brackets and parts that only apply to this rig are in that mess.... also destroyed in most wrecking yards to make it possible for someone else to use in their application. Why try to reinvent the wheel, they already did all of this for you. Its time to sort out what is or is not important, again, till running, how will you know whats what. Just judging from how much metal is bent/destroyed in the primary accident, tells me you have no simple fix ahead of you.

The lighting seemed fine to me. It looks like you and Brandon are having more fun with mechanics than house building. Glad you're taking time to do a fun project!

the lighting is MUCH better :) God bless you for doing all that .... whew ! I agree with the person who just said ... take a pic of everything before you take it apart so you can put it back in the same order ... good luck !

You keep calling it " Frankentruck". Once it's built you should use Eddie Van Halens paint scheme he used on his Frankenstrat!

Brings me back in time when guys were always tearing apart vehicles to make them into zombie apocalypse, bad ass things that they eventually sunk in a lake while driving on March ice or got so mired in mud that they are still sitting in the woods/swamp somewhere. Yep... The good old days. The lighting was good today!

    Looking good !
I will make a cpl comments about the videos from a car guy’s perspective…..when you are explaining things you can explain it while working on it or explain what you will be doing next while still working on it.
Maybe on your other show stopping to explain and making it into a story is important but I think if you are into cars you don’t need a story as much ?
What you think isn’t film worthy for your other show is what ppl that are into cars want to see…
Either way I can’t wait to see the next episode and look forward to seeing the progress !

Hello great channel! I would put some duck tape or something to cover the sharp edges that you cut. I have done vechicle extracation for being a firefighter/medic. Don't want you to get hurt.

lighting is better, works well. for safety, before pulling engine you may want to place a few rachet straps/ straps from frame to lift arms for a little support/ counter balance. great video and the project is coming along. remember building this truggy is for enjoyment not a job that must be done in a short time period. if it becomes a chore step back and give it some time. then the enjoyment desire will come back and have fun building the project. remember it is the experience and enjoyment you receive building the project for the fun it will provide. take your time and be safe

Electricians , when they need to keep wires that they take lose identifiable to put back in the same place use tape to wrap around the wire purchase in electrical department and if you have more wires double each color gives you 12 wires or triple each color and get 18. If cutting wires to be reconnected put tape on both sides of the cut. Works with hoses too.

Got to be careful calling the back wall a "Firewall". Ford lost a big lawsuit over that term. It's called a Cowl, as it will not stop an engine fire. Lighting looks great.

You said you were building a rock crawler/ monster truck. Is it your intention that it be street legal as well? If not no point in saving that harness as a purely off road vehicle will not need all that crap and you could just remove the harness then put back only what you need, building it out of the existing. Being a purely off-roading truck you are going to have to touch every square inch of it so you should probably dismantle it completely. Take longer but well worth it for the fabrication you are going to have to do. Your frame will need to be boxed in if you want it to hold up to crawling and there will be a lot of tubing as well. Just saying...

Hey Trent, when you have the engine out, you should definately do some upgrades on the engine. As you might know, working on an engine is a lot easier when the engine is out.
And no i dont mean a rebuild, i just mean minor upgrades now that you have the space to work on it.
BTW i love your videos on both channels, say "hi" to Allie 😁

Pull the motor but take pictures as you disconnect everything so you can put it back together. I do this when I am working on a quilt project.
