I went to Japan about 6 years ago. I was so nervous about trying to wear kimono or haori; I was afraid I'd offend Japanese people by wearing their traditional clothing as a foreigner. I did buy a haori during the trip because I thought it was so beautiful, and the shopkeeper seemed enthusiastic about me wearing it. Still, I didn't wear it while in Japan, and only wore it a few times when I came back home. Since then, I've bought more haori and a couple kimono, and I haven't yet worn the kimono out in full kitsuke, but I do wear the haori increasingly often with my western clothes. They're too pretty to leave in the closet, and now I can see that Japanese people like that other people want to display this beautiful aspect of their culture. When I wear it I feel like I am showing off a piece of this culture I admire so much, so that maybe other people will get interested in it and help the Japanese kimono market to grow again, since I've learned they're not worn as often by the newer generations. It would be so sad to see such gorgeous cultural clothing go completely out of use, so I feel like even though I'm not Japanese, maybe this can help make sure it survives. I was captivated by kimono ever since I was a kid, and that trip to Japan was a dream come true. I hope I can save up enough money again soon to go back there, and go kimono thrift shopping this time, now that I know much more about kimono and kitsuke, and where to find them at prices I can afford in Tokyo. This time, I'll be bold and wear them wherever I go on Japan, I think. This time around I would love to visit Kawagoe and also some hot spring towns, to be around the old buildings and do traditional activities.

Thank you for your comment. May I ask what do you mean " how to fit a secondhand Kimono"? Would you like to know how to put it on, or how to choose the best fit one for you? I would like to know your opinion. Your voice is very important!! Thanks!

How can I figure out which one would fit without trying every one on! Should I bring a measuring tape?@@SuzysDiscoverJapan

@@charlotteniteman204 you don't need to bring measuring tape lol just ask the shop staff which is your size. They already sorted out according to the size and will show you. It should be easy!!

Hi, I have a question. We're arriving 15mins before 18:00.. And I believed the JR office closes at that time, so I guess we just have to get our JR Pass in Tokyo Station? Will there be JR office in most stations? Can we claim our tickets there? Thank you in advance. Also, very informative video. We haven't decided yet whether to take Narita to Shinjuku or take the reserved seat bus.

Here is JR official web site. The JR travel center at the Narita airport opens later than 18:00. No worries. You can check which stations in Tokyo has JR travel center also at this site. Good luck!! japanrailpass.net/en/exchange/

@@SuzysDiscoverJapan thank you so much 💛 appreciate this a lot. We’re coming from Narita Terminal 3 of the international airport. And found out we have to head terminal 2 for the stations.

My wife and I always stay one night near NRT using free hotel shuttle pick-up service and then claim our JR Passes the next day at Funabashi or Ueno Station. No stress.
