So the "Bring my strawberry sunrise" in Armed and Ready is a nod to Yang's trailer when she asked for a strawberry sunrise with one of those little umbrellas from the bartender.
And the “Now you’re saying goddamnit” is a reference to a common response everytime her voice actress makes a pun.
@@slippahmastah This entire song is just puns and bad jokes
A lot of the song is related to Yang's trailer. Such as, "Call me Sweetheart (what the bartender called her) and I'll tear you apart, just call me 'Sir' (which is what she told him to call her), try to resist as you meet my new fist (relating to her punching him)..."
@@chb2551his codename name was Junior. Apparently his actual name was Hei Xong
Plus Barbara andbyang loves puns, so the "ARMed" and ready has to be cause of the new metal arm loñ
The best part of "This Life is Mine" is the fact that this is the song Weiss sings at the concert. She literally told her father in front of hundreds of people that he can't control her anymore.
Just to let you in on a secret on the song “Let’s Just Live.”
The line “Move Onward Not There Yet” spells out MONTY which was the creator of RWBY, but sadly passed away before Volume 3 released.
It’s great to see that they still honor him after his death ❤
One of the reasons I adore Let's Just Live, I also love the reference to "keep moving forward" at the end of the bridge.
Lusus Naturae was from the video game "Grimm Eclipse" it's the villain song for Dr. Merlot, a mad scientist obsessed with "improving" the grimm. They used the melody as a leitmotif for the grimm during this volume
Also Lusus Naturae is Latin for "freak of nature"
Thank you. I was so confused for a moment. I don't remember every track but when that started playing,I had no idea when it played and I'm sure I'd remember it if it were in the show cause I actually quite like it.
Among us
Jeff said he wrote the opening track to help motivate and help heal CRWBY after Monty's passing... hence that whole slow section in the middle... it's directly for them.. and of course like others have mentioned "Move Onward Not There Yet" is MONTY.
"This life is mine" still hits hard 😂🤣 what a beautiful song.. one of my favorite ❤❤
I have hard time not thinking objectively that This Life is Mine is Jeff’s masterpiece. The way it builds from that melancholy intro to an opera aria to full on rock is amazing, it encapsulates Weiss’s character perfectly and Casey’s voice just brings it all together.
It is an AMAZING song, but I personally like the tribute to Monty from a future soundtrack more (largely because it's about a real person who is no longer living, as opposed to a fictional character)
@@marieporter9488I’m not a fan of that song personally. I think Cold does a better job of paying tribute to Monty even if it’s not directly about him . The other song I honestly didn’t know it was about Monty until I was told.
It really is and does
I just love that, in story, Jacques instructs her to perform at this event and her response is a song basically screaming "my dad is garbage and I'm not with him"
@@johnhannon4074 I feel like the concert was Weiss giving the Atlas elites a final chance like “come on show me you aren’t all a bunch of shallow morons”, but her interactions at the party, particularly with Henry Marigold kinda ended that
delusion for good.
I love "This life is mine!" and "Armed and Ready" ❤
I've always thought of Home as Ruby's song narratively as it is playing while she is writing to Yang and greeting Qrow waking up, I've kinda thought of it as her summing up her relief at getting to their destination and reflecting on missing those she can't be with and being caring/afectionate with those she are with.

Thank you!
Lusus Naturae is goated.
The Lusus Naturae song was featured in a game called RWBY Grimm Eclipse. It's about the villain from that game, a crazy scientist.
I think they used motifs from the song in this Volume's score though, specifically in scenes where the Nuckelavee was on screen
11:59 So the line "I'm a cursed black cat", funnily enough while black cats are seen as bad luck by most, sailors actually see them as good luck charms when the cats are on ships.
Don't know if you found out about these already but oh well.
The strawberry sunrise line in Armed and Ready is a reference to the Yellow Trailer. Yang goes to Junior's bar and asks for a drink called a Strawberry Sunrise as well as one of those little umbrellas.
Lusus Naturae is latin for "freak of nature", the perfect description of the Grimm. Its a song that was made for the game Grimm Eclipse. Grimm Eclipse takes place between Volumes 2 and 3 but I'm unsure of its canonicity.
Let's Just Live was made for two people, Pyrrha in the show and Monty Oum for us in the real world. There are even a few references to Monty in the song. The line "Go forward, you must keep moving on" is very similar to Monty"s "Keep Moving Forward". If you take the first letter from each word in the line, "Move Onward, Not There Yet", you get MONTY.
BMBLB...
Since both of Ruby and Yang's moms left/died, the song Home is basically Yang stepping up when their dad, Taiyang, was drowning himself in a bottle. Yang ended up being both a sister and a mom to Ruby.
I'll note that afaik we don't know if Taiyang got into much drinking, Yang described him as just sort of shutting down. No highlight of alcohol there, but not impossible that he's just fortunately not very difficult when drunk
@@emdivine yeah, that's more fun theory but it makes sense that he would want to do something to numb the pain of losing two loves
I actually listen to "Home" every night before bed. It's my lullaby
I don't know if it's related, but there is a Devil May Cry anime in which Strawberry Sundae happens to be Dante's go to treat.
Yeah, the song "Bmblb" came out of left field. I remember seeing it on the album and knew there was going to be a lot of discussion around it. It got kind of chaotic to the point where Jeff & Casey came out and spoke about it. They said it was just a fun and light song that shouldn't be taken too seriously.
Adorable song, but doesn't make much sense narratively in the current story.
BTW, I'm not sure if you remember, but most of the RWBY soundtracks have an acoustic version of a song that was from a previous volume. This volume we got "Boop" which was from V2.
"This Life Is Mine" is still one of my favorite RWBY songs to this day. Top 5 100%. Jeff and his team killed it with this one!
Bad Luck Charm, Qrow's leitmotif, is my personal fave. However, it's also a very tragic song when taken into context of his semblance.
So Bumblebee was a kinda "unofficial" song. It didn't actually play in the show, but Jeff wrote it anyway for fun for the fandom ship of Blake and Yang.
Their ship name is Bumblebee because Black and Yellow
The strawberry sunrise & "call me sweetheart & I'll tear you apart, just call me 'Sir'" was in reference to her confrontation with Junior in the bar during her Yellow Trailer. It's certainly been a while since then, so I don't blame you two for forgetting it.
I love how every title song truly encopasses what each volume is about^^
The part where the intro calms down I think is definitely not so much talking about RWBY itself but the passing of Monty. A little tribute to him.
Weiss has, I think, five songs that show her growth throughout the series. It starts with “Path of Isolation” and ends with “This Life is Mine.” Mirror, Mirror” has three parts but not every part is called “Mirror, Mirror.” You have to look in the song credits and you will see it in parentheses as part of the title. All of team RWBY has several songs in the series that talk about their growth in the series. Yang has a few and so does Blake. Casey’s vocals are absolutely amazing; she is now in college and has her own band called Ok Goodnight. They do have a few of their own songs on TH-cam, the songs are on Casey’s personal channel or on the band’s channel.
Strawberry Sunrise in Armed and Ready is a reference to the drink Yang orders in the Yellow trailer.
Volume 4 soundtrack:
- Let’s Just Live - Volume 4 Op. Right above V3’s for me. Move Onward Not There Yet is Monty. And the comments about losing a friend are about him, tho they fit Pyrrha too. The picture of the birds flying into the sun is Monty’s signature.
-Like Morning Follows Night - Appeared in ep 3, and it’s okay. Don’t really have much to say. One of the better raps.
- Bad Luck Charm - Appeared episode 7 during the Qrow v Tyrian fight. Pretty self explanatory.
- This Life is Mine - Appeared in episode 6, Weiss sang part of it at her concert. Honestly, such a frickin banger. I love the growing progression of how it goes from operatic to hard rock. And the amount of rock star Weiss fanart this inspired was amazing.
- Home - Appeared during Ruby’s letter in episode 12. Basically about the team, RNJR, JNPR, and RWBY, all of them. Just... they’ll be here for each other. They’re home. It’s sweet. Found family trope for the win.
- Armed and Ready - V4 credits. The other banger of this volume. My baby growing and getting better (not completely healed tho). Lots of callbacks to the Yellow Trailer, including the strawberry sunrise.
- Lusus Naturae - It’s the main villain theme for the RWBY Grimm Eclipse game. It’s okay.
- BMBLB - Did not appear in the volume, much like Boop back in V2. Jeff had some extra time due to a hand injury so he wrote a cute little love song for the Bees, Blake and Yang.
actually I am pretty sure Boop was playing on Nora's headphones
"It’s okay."
EXCUSE ME?!
The strawberry sunrise line from "Armed and Ready" is a callback to the Yellow trailer for Yang when she went to Junior's club and ordered a strawberry sunrise
17:58 that guitar solo hits hard every time 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Can't believe guitar isn't even his main instrument. The guitar solos are always impressive in these RWBY songs 🤩
Fun fact! After the lyric in "Bad Luck Charm" of "You don't want the burden of my name" it started a circulation of a theory that Qrow was Ruby's dad that he left with Tai cause he didn't want Ruby to deal with his bad luck.
This will forever be my headcanon, it just makes so much sense to me and is so tragically beautiful.
@MartinBrkic I mean I did too but don't anymore for reasons I don't wanna get into for spoilers
Cant get over Bucky sleeping so soundly with that little goblin smile the whole time. Smushy face fuzzy pupperchunk squad is go.
Lusus Naturae, the song starting at 30:10, is actually from a video game made before Volume 4 came out. It's the theme of the game's main villain, the mad scientist Dr. Merlot, who's obsessed with the Grimm, seeking to alter their physiology and bring them under control. The title is Latin for "Freak of Nature".
Bad Luck Charm is my favorite song in Rwby just because it’s an amazing song, it fits the character a lot but also the main reason is because I have the worst luck in the world. So I can relate 😂
Let's just live: Is a very good opening for this Volume 4, it really represents this pain of having lost a friend but the desire to continue for them too, that their memory is not lost, as well for the characters of RWBY that the teams behind the series
Like morning follows night: Is actually a nod to the discussion between Blake and Sun. And then outside of the text, kuddo to Jeff in the vocals, this guy is incredible.
Bad Luck Charm: This song helps, even if the series already does it in part, to understand Qrow and why he is the way he is. The torment he imposes on himself by thinking he can only live alone.
This life is mine: One of my absolute favorites, it always tends to make my eyes watery (with another one from Weiss that you will hear later). But it also offers so much deliverance, it's really the song of Weiss revealing herself and taking charge of HER life.
Home: It's a song whose melody you will hear in the future, it symbolizes the bond that the characters have between them, we hear it for example when Ruby writes her letter. It encapsulates the idea that being surrounded by the people you love is enough to feel at home.
Armed and ready: A song that I can't help but sing in my car when it passes. The return of Yang, which is of course with a pun, since she has a new arm, so she is "armed".
BMBLB: It's a surprise from Jeff for those who like Blake and Yang's ship, Bumblebee being their code name (but also Yang's motorcycle).
One thing I’ve noticed in these music videos is the character singing is usually indicated by the color of the text. Red is usually Ruby, yellow Yang, etc
funfact, a line in the first song is a subtle shoutout to Monty; M*ove O*nward, N*ot T*here Y*et
The song Lusus Naturae is the theme song of Dr.Merlot the main villian from RWBY Grimm Eclipse a game released shortly before volume 4 and the song tells how he wished to bio-engineer Grimm to become humanity's guardians instead of their destruction.
Personally my favorite Traci of the Bunch will Always Be Bad Luck Charm. It's my Favorite RWBY Song Followed Closely By Hero and One Thing. All three songs are absolutely amazing to Listen too but then again that just goes to every RWBY song as they're all incredible.
30:44 Lusus Naturae song was Salem’s Song, it came out during the game Grimm Eclipse a RWBY spin off game that was created by a fan originally and then bought (the creator hired on, and project acquisition) and funded by Rooster Teeth as an official title. “Lusus Naturae” stands for Freak of Nature in dead Latin if I recall.
My headcanon is that Qrow actually wrote "Bad Luck Charm" back when he was a first-year at Beacon and still going through his "emo edgelord" phase. Summer thought it was hilarious.
The lines "Call me sweetheart and I'll tear you apart, just call me sir" and "And bring my strawberry sunrise" are direct references to the Yellow Trailer where she kicked Junior's teeth in, a level of energy she's returning to
Lusus Naturae is a song for the game Grimm Eclipse released at around the same time as this volume, written from the perspective of the villain, Dr. Merlot
15:55 Weiss questioning if she can’t be strong always gets me, because the only strength she could question is mental…she is quite literally ripped. You don’t see the details but she has to be in flawless shape for her size to wield the weapon she does and to use it so well and gracefully. I picked up a life size replica at a con once made with real metal and that thing had to weigh at least 75-80 pounds. She wields that one handed. Bruh….😂
SIR, and STRAWBERRY SUNRISE are both a reference to the YELLOW TRAILER 👍
Fun fact about Lusus Naturae (my personal favorite song of this ost) it's originally from the game RWBY Grimm Eclipse and it actually doesn't show up in volume 4. But it's basically about the mad scientist of that game who wants to genetically modify Grimm for his own personal goals. It's also just so dark and creepy and different from everything that I love it a lot.
There are so many great songs in this volume! I am so excited for you to start volume 5.
"Let's Just Live" remains my favorite OP for RWBY. The slow build to the now fully positive chorus is so great.
Omg i remember the hype when these first came out!! So glad to see you guys jumping on!! New sub, this popped up in my recommendations and im totally gonna watch your beginning reactions!!
I find it funny how defiant "This Life is Mine" is towards Weiss's father, but that was the song she sang at the charity banquet in front of her father before she decided to stand up and leave.
The song "Lusus Naturae" (the song that plays after Yang's song) is from the game RWBY: Grimm Eclipse
If you wanna know what The song that starts at 3:20 is about in the game RWBY grim eclipse thar is a sintest that as a obsession with grim and wanted to evolve them
In the long list of "RWBY Lyrics That Go Hard", "Now this conversation's fin'ly over, mirror mirror now we're done" continues to be towards the top. It's impossible for me to listen to This Life is Mine without belting that part out 😅 same thing with "I am the golden one, who burns just like the sun."
"We're powered by every tear that's dried" is also a pretty good one.
Thanks for this. I don't think I've ever just listened to this soundtrack. I find it interesting that for both Weiss and Yang, the songs link back to the trailers. The white trailer is Weiss addressing the mirror, while this one is Weiss breaking the mirror. And then Armed and Ready references Yang's trailer. That's one of the things I like about RWBY, the way it links together. My favorite is still Home, though.
the song mroning follows night rly hits me hard cuz me and my best freind are like that and she is rly the night and i will also never leave her on her own if she needs me im there but because her depresion she also sometimes push others away but i said time and time again that one thats bad for her and hurt us more then anything else and no the strawberry sunrise is from the yellow trailer and the song lusus naturae what means freak of nature is from the game grimm eclpise
I feel like bmblb should have been on OST 5 and switched out with All That Matters, in terms of telling of the Hurt from Yang side (that Song tells us more about Yangs feeling about Blake leaving than the whole Show ever does)...yes I know that the Lyrics don't work for that but on a pure timing base, bmblb seems odd to be there (It was only a test for Jeff, to see if he could write a "fun, Love Song" and he mentioned on a Pannel once that he considders romatic Songs his weakness). Mirror Mirror and Armed and Ready still slap imo and i can't wait for the OST5 reaction
maybe but it makes sense in a "don't worry we haven't forgotten about this ship" perspective.... It did fuel quite a few flame wars of course, but can't make an omelet without cracking a few eggs,
@@TheMhalpernyeah, Blacksun shipers had a Meltdown, im sure...just as they did when anything happens with BB (or nothing happens so they can call it "forced" ...can't argue with stupid)
@@WalterWhite-jz7ct I mean really its the second or third song that has BB hints in it, first is Red Like Roses Part 1 (Black the beast... Yellow Beauty) that is a very interesting word association right there, then of course there's Armed and Ready also in the Vol 4 ost "nothing I wont do for her"
@@TheMhalpern Agree with alll but Armed and ready...that had no BB in it ("Im racing to her side, there's nothing i won't do for her" thats about Ruby since Yang went to find Raven to get to her faster....and she was still pissed at Blake)
All BB Songs would be in order :
Red like Roses P 1 (hinted at but yeah ^^)
Bmblb P1 v 4
All that Matters v6
Nevermore v6
Worthy (Bmblb P 2) v9
What makes BB so good is the fact that they had 5 scenes in 9 seasons just dedicated for them, with the rest revealed in looks, background and the Songs ^^
@@WalterWhite-jz7ct nope actually its the scene from the end of Volume 3 just before she loses her right arm. hence the "this is not a dream, my mind repeats the scene. I can't forget it and its torcher" referring to Yang's ptsd.
Now that Weiss has shattered the mirror holding her back, it feels a good time to point out that her Whitley's fairy tale reference also involves a mirror. His fairy tale inspiration is Kai from the Snow Queen. Shards from a magic mirror pierced Kai's heart and eyes leaving him unable to see the good or beauty in anything. Frozen was originally an adaptation of the story, but obviously it strayed pretty far from the source.
Wonderful reaction and discussion! I can't really offer anything more than what others have already, but yeah, this Volume's soundtrack is on point. Armed and Ready is easily one my favorites of the series.
Looking forward to the kickoff for Volume 5 and your reactions to the shorts!
Lusus Naturae is from a video game that came out around the time called Grimm Eclipse. It's the theme song of the game's villain Dr. Merlot who, get this, captures and experiments on Grimm so that he can get them to serve humanity. (Insert Bugs Bunny holding up a picture of a screw and a baseball.) In the game you can play as any member of teams RWBY or JNPR (yes including Pyrrha, this takes place in between volumes two and three) and try to put a stop to his plan. It's also multiplayer so you can mix and match the characters if you want.
I knew you guys would love "This life is mine". That song is incredible in the sense that it's both really well composed, and the lyrics tell some much needed character growth for Weiss.
You little puppy looks SO CUTE!😍
14:17 gotta say Ken you made me start laughing my ass off with that one, well played sir 👌👌
BMBLB is an awkward song to discuss until you’re caught up.
When it was written, Jeff just wanted a love song for the soundtrack and liked the ship. Also good, regardless on your thoughts about the pairing, to see a love song explicitly about two women.
but its totally worthy of the wait.
Jeff liking the ship is actually kinda a myth, he doesn't really care about ships or stuff like that. Heck, he doesn't even watch the show. He just wanted to give the shippers a gift.
@@gazelle_diamond9768 I doubt that he doesn't watch the show or didn't at the time, music matches too closely for him not to have had not only been watching but have some advance info
@@TheMhalpern That... has nothing to do with watching the show. How exactly do you think he makes the songs BEFORE the volume is released? How do you think the writers CREATE the show?
Yes! This is definitely one of my favorite soundtracks I love all the songs tbh
This Life is Mine just shows how Weiss is the best written character in the entire Series. And thats one of many reasons she is my favorite character along with Jaune
It's been mentioned, but Lusus Naturae is the theme of the villain of RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, a hack n' slash video game set between Volumes 2 and 3.
There is no soundtrack of RWBY that doesn't have at least 3 songs that are absolutely AMAZING and at least 2 songs that are objectively good.
Let's Just Live expresses not only the sentiments of the characters of RWBY but also the feelings of CRWBY, processing their grief over losing Monty.
Sidebar, it was with RWBY4 that they switched from using Poser to the Maya engine, enabling Blake's expressive cat ears to be a reality. It was a move Monty had opposed because he knew the Poser software so much better. But it was a step forward the series needed to make and the show has been so much better visually because of it.
You can definitely read the RWBY book "After the Fall", it is about team CFVY, it has both how they formed in the Emerald Forest, interacted with RWBY at Beacon, and what they did after Volume 3.
This Life Is Mine feels like Jeff Williams listened to prog rock and Coheed specifically one day and was like "yeah i can tell a whole six minute theatrical rock opera style song for Weiss."
Another great soundtrack react,V4 was great! everytime i watch one i'm always excited for yall to react to the next volumes soundtrack!
This soundtrack has my second favorite song in the entire show (This Life is Mine, also known as "Character Progression: The Song")! The only song i like more is a tribute to Monty Oum (the creator of the show who unfortunately died between Volumes 2 and 3) in a future soundtrack
Qrow having a passive bad luck semblance really is just an awful fate for him, similar to black cat from marvel. She also brings bad luck to those around her, at least in some versions, and it really messes with her relationships
Weiss's song This Life of Mine is one of my favorite songs in RWBY.
“Go forward you must keep moving on” referring to monty ❤️🩹
Geez I did not remember how much of a banger this OST was, had 3 of my absolute favs BLC, TLIM and A&R. Then we got Home and BLMBLB which are wholesome AF and the acoustic boop cover.
I'm not sure about the red sky at morning thing, but Strawberry Sunrise is the drink Yang ordered all the way back in the Yellow Trailer
This Life is Mine is currently my all-time favorite RWBY song from all the volumes so far. It's so defiant and yet beautiful just like Weiss.
Lustus nature is a song for the grimm it was created for the game grimm eclipse and added to this volumes soundtrack
cant wait till you guys meet Clover
OK- lusus naturae is a song from a rwby video game, for whatever reason its included in the volume 4 soundtrack
God this show is so Gay, and I mean that with the highest and most beloved compliment and praise.
I've sung Home to my sister before during her nightmares, and it's become a massive lullaby in our household. So you're bang on there too.
Fun fact: Casie Williams didnt pre-read the script for Home. She sang it as she read, and halfway through she realized it was a song to her from her Dad and broke down crying
I don't think someone mentioned that already but I have a theory that "This Life Is Mine" is Weiss' real main song.
Each member of the RWBY team came with a trailer back in volume 1, and each of them got a song attached to it. That is what I'd call their main song.
For Ruby, it's "Red Like Roses"
Weiss would be "Mirror Mirror"
Blake has "From shadows"
And Yang goes with "I burn"
Now a cool thing to notice is that in Ruby's song lyrics, RWBY's members are hinted through their songs names.
The lyrics are only 4 sentences long as well so here they are, and I'll highlight the songs name :
"𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 fills my dreams and brings me to the place you rest.
White is cold and always yearning, burdened by a royal test.
Black the beast descends 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀.
Yellow beauty 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 gold."
And if there's one thing you notice right away is that there is no mention of any mirror for Weiss whatsoever. Weird, isn't it?
Well I don't know if It's true but I think I read somewhere that "This Life Is Mine" was originally supposed to be named "Royal Test".
If that's the case, I think you'd understand why I'd call this Weiss' main song over "Mirror Mirror".
The lyrics also support this theory, as you can hear "burdened by your royal test" (which echoes to "Red like Roses" lyrics anyway).
And the "I'm shattering the mirror" would suggest that "mirror mirror" acted as some kind of decoy, faking or at least preventing Weiss from showing her true emotions.
I think the twist that the mirror that seemed so important to her was most likely representing the cage her father built around her which was preventing us from seeing who she really is is nicely shown through this whole main song thing and I hope I was able to explain it properly.
The "strawberry sunrise" line is a call back to the yellow trailer when she orders that same drink but never really got it in fact that whole verse is a call back to the yellow trailer
ok so what is your feeling about weiss from volume one to now? see why alot of people were saying just wait on weiss?
“This life is mine” is probably my favorite rwby song
Ken & Beth, I really enjoyed your reactions to this soundtrack. Granted, I usually don't watch soundtrack reactions..... Not for anything negative. I just love all the OST's of RWBY!!! I just hate that some songs still hit me so hard, even now.... 😢 And this OST has one such song.....'Home'!!
Stupid, I know. But, it brings me to tears every time.
Anyway, it is my #1 on this track, followed by 'Armed & Ready' and 'This Life is Mine'!!!
Hey..... Concert Choir was secondary major in high school. I take my favorites seriously deep. 😎👍🏿🌹❄️🖤🔥
"You'd wish you'd killed me now I'm stronger" is definitely a dragon balls saiyan genetic reference
This Life is Mine is my favorite RWBY song.
You can say alot about it, but overall it's really powerful and meaningful, and something I think many people in the real world can empathise with.
Especially viewing it next to the other Mirror, Mirror songs.
The song about the grim was made for Grim Eclipse's villain
So Lusus Naturae was actually written for a RWBY video game, it was the main villains theme song. He was attempting to alter and control Grimm to use for "good" (a fool's errand at best).
BMBLB was written for the fans who were shipping Yang and Blake together as a fun little fan service song, but unfortunately it ignited another round of shipping wars, which Jeff Williams expressed disappointment in.
Let's Just Live had a small easter egg in it. The song was written both as the volume theme song and as a tribute to the passing of Monty Oum, RWBY's creator. The line: Move Onward Not There Yet, is an anagram of Monty's name. Jeff and Casey were friends of his.
And I gotta say that Weiss' song is awesome. I love the rock build and I see a lot of things in the song that I relate to, simply because I have had to kind of break the trend of the men in my family and how they have acted towards their families, and try to undo what that legacy did to me and my family.
Armed and Ready is a Pun. Yang got a new arm. She is now Armed. Gottem
I consider this volume’s soundtrack the best one in all of RWBY. I have practically ever song from this volume on my playlist, and I listen to it constantly.
also if i remember right magnhild is noras hammer
Move
Onward
Not
There
Yet
MONTY.
Ok, fun facts time;
The first song, "Let's just live," has the line "Move onward not there yet," which spells out Monty, the creator who passed away after volume 2. The whole song basically alludes to both him and Pyrrha passing on.
"Like morning follows night" quite literally uses lines directly from the volumes last episode, but plays during the sea monster fight earlier in the season, so it directly foreshadows Blake and Suns conversation. Also the rap section is done by Lamar Hall, who consistently gets cameo appearances through all the volumes of RWBY. Basically, if a song goes rap, it's Lamar.
The first section of "This life is mine" is the song Wiess sings during her concert this volume. The song is her calling her dad out and saying she won't be controlled any more. Her dad is in the audience during this scene and does NOT applaud her.
"Armed and Ready"; the line "bring my strawberry sunrise," is a call back to Yangs first trailer in the nightclub. It was the first words she ever spoke on camera when she ordered her drink. She never got her strawberry sunrise.
Also, on "Armed and Ready," Yangs VA Barbara is a huge fan of puns, so the entire song is basically poking fun at Yang being one armed now. Typically, whenever Barbara herself makes a terrible joke or pun, the collective response is to groan "goddamn it Barb!", which is also referenced in the song.
"Lusus Naturae" is not actually a song from this volume, but comes from a RWBY videogame called Grimm Eclipse. It was originally a fan project that the crew were so impressed by that they bought the rights to it and helped publish. The song itself is about the main villain from that game, a scientist who's trying to control and modify grimm for his own purposes.
"Boop" is first heard during Ren and Nora's first meeting under the house during the grimm attack when they were kids. It begins playing the moment Nora calms down and Ren gives her her first hammer. Basically the moment she fell in love with him begins right there. Though, I'm pretty sure the version you heard is not the original. The proper song is a lot faster.
And, like always, some of these songs can be heard if you go back and listen to earlier volumes again, such as Qrow's "Bad Luck Charm" which can be heard as far back as episode 3 of volume 3.
Strawberry sunrise is the drink she ordered in the Yellow trailer.
Most of the Maternal songs in RWBY are Yang to Ruby.
When yall react to volume 5 character shorts will yall watch all or one at a time
strawberry sunrise might be what yall said as for meaning but its a call back to the first vol trailers yang ordered a strawberry sunrise at the bar she was at in that nightclub. to quote her she said "ill have a strawberry sunrise, oh! and one of those tiny umbrellas!" also armed and ready is a pun btw something yang loves dearly
I like to think the similar feels of Blake's songs and Qrow's is because of one thing: feeling like an outcast or a pariah
Blake is a faunus and a former member of the White Fang and faunus are treated pretty badly by some people in this world
And with Qrow his semblance makes his life miserable because he can't make any friends or be close to anyone especially not his family. Because if he does his semblance might bring harm to them
I love,
