    Great video, amazed at the minimal amount of gear you and can still have a great trip! The meals are basic but look so good, thanks for sharing 🙏❤️

    Great post as usual bro! The condensation thing: never use a vapor barrier, use gortex or some other breathable waterproof fabric you'll be so much happier. Of course, you live in a relatively balmy part of the world so, hypothermia isn't a constant concern but still, your poncho shelter kept you dry, no need to soak your clothes with perspiration by using an impenetrable moisture barrier! I learned this the hard way, living in New England as I do, in the mountains of the region in the autumn months. 70degress F at trailhead down in the notch, 25degrees F at 4000ft up. Need to be bone dry no matter what! l like your BCB stove, I still use my 40-years-old ESBIT folding stove. Simple, elegant, dependable. Stinky as hell so I double-bag the fuel pellets but, an old friend I'd say. Question: what kind of insects do you have in that environment? Any nasty spiders? Mosquitoes? Centipedes? Other? Just curious. Always look forward to your posts, don't always comment, but always "like". Cheers

      Heya Rick.
      Thanks alot mate. Yeah I'm not quite sure how much the emergency bivi actually did but like you said, hypothermia isn't a huge concern so I wasn't too worried.
      The great thing about the bcb fuel tabs is they don't smell! And you can use them as hand sanitizer.
      As far as bugs and crawlies, we have some spiders but apart from the white tail, the only deadly spider we have is the Katipo but they are very rare.
      The mosquitoes and sandflies can be annoying in the summer. We have centipdeds and millipedes (I think) but I don't often see them.
      We also have Weta, but they are pretty harmless although they can freak you out a bit.
      NZ is pretty cool in that we don't really have anything to be concerned about.
      I appreciate the support mate.
      Cheers.

    I think it's always good to get that bit of rain and test the old shelter out, it affirms your build was spot on. I must invest in gloves, simple things that make for a better camp. How to avoid the condensation do you think? Cheers Zeb.

    • @BackcountryKiwi
      @BackcountryKiwi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely Chris, you can build an awesome shelter in dry weather but you'll never know if it will actually do the job until it rains, I wasn't expecting that rain so it's a good thing my shelter was good!
      Gloves are a life saver at times, would highly recommend some thick enough for grabbing hot things from the fire, makes cooking so much easier.
      I have no idea about the condensation, it's a serious downside with emergency blankets. I think I read that having your clothes as a barrier (instead of bare skin) helps but I was fully clothed and there was lots of condensation so I'm not sure.
      Thanks Chris.

    Thanks for sharing. I would have added shredded cheese and sliced avocado at least but to each their own. Did you give yourself a once over for ticks after the debris bed?

    • @BackcountryKiwi
      @BackcountryKiwi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Albert. I was keeping the meal really basic due to it being a minimal camp.
      The only ticks we have here in NZ infest mostly birds and don't transmit diseases to humans. I've never even seen one!
      Cheers

      Ooo that's a tough one haha. Ease of set up you'd definitely win, but packability and comfort I'd say are a draw. 😂
