      I predict some will get mad at me for saying this but sometimes Dr K just seems to come up with explanations or solutions to things instead of having real knowledge. If you can speak in a certain way and make the thing seem plausible enough, people will buy your explanations. If you go to almost any psychology department to talk with the scientists about the issues of self-awareness, you'll get quite likely as many explanations or views as there are people working there. These are vague issues still unsettled in the science and I wish people were a little bit more skeptical when someone (even a professional) gives definitive answers as if the answer was obvious. As a professional myself there are many times I would have an issue with what Dr K is saying, but he is usually in a position of authority. It's easier to convince an audience of laypeople than to pursue a career where you have to convince those who are your peers.

    • @maddscientist82
      @maddscientist82 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@Minisynapse You're not wrong but I think since he's primarily speaking to a large audience, he's gonna generalize a bit. He is (was?) a practicing psychologist. He's done live streams where he is talking to streamers/youtubers and is very different in his responses and nuanced.

      If we take your example, 'a parent who tells you that you do not care enough' Our parents can be wise teachers, and they can sometimes be wrong. Or they can sometimes be repetitive or hurtful even when telling the truth. Sit and rest on these thoughts.
      Breath and focus on your hypersensitivity, let your emotions wash over you and accept the situation for what it is, your life, your parents, their judgements of you, your so called not caring enough, now back to the breath, breath in, breath out, and notice that life is okay, that no matter what happens in life you have can breathe and find peace in your self.

    Dr K speaking on breathe and stillness was so accurate to my experience. All of it, it was really exactly how things came together when I first started meditation. After an accident left me with back pain and stiffness it was never the same, I could no longer sit upright perfectly still and find that "zen" without focusing on the pain and discomfort. It's actually one of the things I'm most upset by from the accident. I never did get back into it like I was, but it was the best I'd felt and I hope to one day get back there and learn to work around it.

    I’ve never been much of a visual fan when it comes to podcasts, for the past 3 years I’ve never missed one modern wisdom’s podcasts and only ever watched the big guests on TH-cam like Chris Bumstead, David Goggins, Andrew Huberman, Patrick Bed David, but this completely blows my mind. It’s like I’m immersed in a reality where the conversation is taking place, thinking of the scenery brings back some key points of the conversation.
    Super excited for the other guests, especially Tim Ferris and his hyper distinctive head.

    8:23 I used to overthink stuff like that. Then as I got older I realized that you are going to make bad mistakes no matter how much research or thought you put into a decision so just make the decision.
    No matter how smart your are you will always be making painful mistakes so just take initiative and learn from the results.
    Just make sure it’s your decision, it’s easier to forgive yourself than to let go of resentment for letting another person decide for you (and things went horribly wrong).

    Algorithm got me pegged on this one. The negative self-talk machine in my head it's so exhausting. I've been working hard on it for about 2 years and I've actually got to the point where about 20% of my unintentional, subconscious thoughts are now positive. Something I never thought would happen.
