This match reminds me of Cena vs The Rock Once In A Lifetime match from 2012. Especially the sad look on Cody’s face as he sat in the middle of the ring crying like Cena did. I felt bad for Cody.
Once solo came down during the entrance in the beginning of the match with Roman, I knew there’d be no title change. Then they act like it’s good storytelling. How is it good storytelling? Solo isn’t a manager. Why is he there to begin with. They didn’t even explain it.

His entire families history of being put in gimmicks by Vince and WWE, getting stuck as a mid-card cartoon character, then he leaves the company to go to NJPW and spent years to rebuild his name and character and ended up changing pro-wrestling with AEW... then he returns to WWE as one of the top babyfaces in the entire industry, his entire father's legacy resting on his shoulders to win the title against this goliath like figure WWE manufactured with Roman, exactly what more do you need for this guy to "overcome".
They had the perfect Wrestlemania babyface story as good or bigger then what people consider the gold standards, HBK boyhood dream, Daniel Bryan's Mania win. This story for Cody was as good or better. And they just threw it away.

That finish was, as Jim Cornette might say- laaazzy booking. It’s the same finish we’ve gotten for “almost a thousand days”. I’m kinda pissed at myself for getting invested in the story. What was the point of Drew losing in Cardiff, and Sami losing in Montreal? I thought the whole point was “well, Cody’s the guy”. And given all that’s happened over the last week, I’m not buying “this decision was made weeks ago, by HHH”; this, like the rest of Night 2, felt very much like a Vince production. WWE has been “Game of Thrones” over the last 6-7 months. We had several great seasons; and then they gave us GoT seasons 7 and 8 in two nights.
I wouldn’t have minded Cody losing had it not been the SAME GODDAMN ENDING to every Roman Reigns match over the past year: referee distraction, bloodline interference, Roman hits a spear match over it’s gotten so repetitive and boring to watch which is part of the reason why Cody should’ve won not only because of the buildup leading into the match but also because it would’ve given the fans something fresh and new to look forward to
The only way this could have worked is if a cm punk or MJF cost Cody the match
