Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Award® winner Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.
Directed by Oscar® winner Bill Condon from a screenplay by TBD based on the 1991 animated film, the film is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, providing the score, which will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice.

Can you spot all the references : Busby Berkeley, Ethel Merman, Martha Graham, 'Cabaret', 'Chicago', 'West Side Story', 'Singing in the Rain', and Bollywood ?
At the beginning?
What was the West Side Story reference?
I only caught the Singin’ in the Rain and Bollywood ones. 😕
This movie would have been better as a muppet movie I mean this is a gorgeous scene for the muppets
Was the guillotine les mis?
I love how they literally sing a song about feeding her but take the food away every time she tries to eat, and then they just give her a small cake at the end 😂
Same 😂😂😂😂

Yeah although I know that the original is far superior in terms of quality. I think this version gets WAY too much hate. Other than the jungle book I think it’s the best live action remake. Granted it’s competition isn’t too stiff.
Yea, the movie isn't all the best, (But not the worst considering others...) but the visuals are just stunning and beautiful and magical and so colorful, just wish they tried a bit more with the story
Absolutely

Emma’s acting in this scene totally falls flat. There’s some crazy spectacular shit going down in front of her character, but she just can’t muster the enthusiasm to really make us believe she’s there, watching it. The animated Belle is so joyous and engaged during this song, but Emma sits stiff and motionless, only offering an occasional smirk or wide eye for emotion.
I mean she is kidnapped in a gigantic castle by a large beast. She’s still in recovery mode so I can understand
She just wants to have her meal already and eat in peace
In her defense shes sitting in an empty room listening to verbal ques surroundee by green screens. Its hard to act without any visual ques to play off of
@@christopherdavidson17 I’m well aware, which is why I phrased it “crazy shit going down in front of her CHARACTER”. Emma makes it all the more clear it’s just a green screen with her acting. But her job as the lead actress is to make the audience believe something that’s not actually happening. The SFX team did their part making us believe the setting existed, but Emma really failed in making us believe she was there.
I agree. To be honest, Emma really never WAS that good of an actress, including the Harry Potter films. People give her a pass on those because they are excited to see the characters come to life. But let's face it, Emma hasn't turned in any truly GREAT performances.
I love how the whole time everybody has choreographed moves and then Lumiere w is for the most part just jumping around having fun 4:02 you can tell he enjoyed that.
God this scene is so gorgeous, I remember watching this in the theatre and being BLOWN AWAY.
Months later we watched it in class and everyone else was astounded and I was like “ikr, guys?”
Superior look of superiority
Yes I’m impressed my favorite characters chip!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes the movie theater was really gorgeous I was so excited 😭
This is one of the few actually amazing renditions of Disney songs in live action remakes.
Facts.
This was I think the one part of the movie everyone was waiting for
Always love to hear Ewan McGregor's wonderful singing voice!
They were giving the show of their lives with one of the best coreaographied and animated performances of the world, making impressive things, and the acting of Emma Watson makes it seem like the order of wings from last night just came out of the microwave for dinner. I've seen junkies more excited about the pizza guy arriving at the door.
To be fair, Emma was literally just sitting in a chair surrounded by nothing but green screen while filming this scene; whatever her talents, I can’t say I blame her entirely for appearing unenthusiastic when she’s given literally _nothing_ to work with.
@@Omnywrench That's a lousy excuse.

Obi-Wan never told you...

The first time I’ve heard Ewan McGregor sing since Moulin Rouge!
You should hear him sing again in Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio

"Your love of the Grey Stuff has clearly slowed your mind"
This quote could be applied to Gandalf at this point.
Obi-Wan is a badass no matter what he does!
Bravo, Mr. MacGregor!
I am laughing so hard as they pull the food away from Belle as she tries to eat it. Even when Lumiere pulled the tablecloth and Belle's food off and knocks her utensils out of her hand. I love those parts so much 😂
I still can't believe Obi-Wan is singing this 😳 Ewan is one of a kind singer
Teacher: No eating in class!

This scene is one of the best musical scenes in movie history
1991: Ten years we've been rusting
2017: For so long we've been rusting
Well, I hate to break to you Lumiere, Beauty and the Beast returns to the big screen after 26 years. But it's live-action, instead of just being animated and you're voiced by Ewan McGregor
This is the absolute French joie de vivre with great food, sophisticated French serving dishes, in a sophisticated castle , with music, danse, love in the air ...
Also the French Revolution reference
Out of all live action Disney remakes this is my favorite
It would be perfect if it weren't for Emma Watson being expressionless as Belle and lacking the emotion in her relationship with Dan Stevens as Beast.
@@danielegomes3924 This was perfect except for Emma. Her co actors outacted and outsang her. Ewan Mcgregor ha sthe vocal chops. Emma can't sing. She ruined this for me

The scenes have an undescribable aesthetics, a really fine art.
This song always puts me in a good mood.
Master? you have a good voice!
He really does
And Gandalf is smoking grey stuff. He shall not pass the singing!
@anakin, how often did you sing this together before Attack if the Clones?
The guillotine joke made me chuckle
I really do get so full of joy at this whole song but also when Ian McKellen finally joins in.
Gandalf resisted the Power of the Ring but he couldn't resist a good musical number XD
Ian Mckellen was the voice of toad and zebedee from flushed away and the magic roundabout
Fun fact: According to an interview on Graham Norton, Ewan wanted to do a genuine French accent but peeps in charge did not like it so now he sounds American. Haha.
Ewan McGregor's French accent is awesome.

Yep! And just hearing Ian McKellen’s booming voice sing in Be our Guest was one of the best things about watching beauty and the beast! 😊😊
One of the best live action song remakes.
4:02 I think that Ewan McGregor would make a good choice for Donald "Don" Lockwood in the "Singin' in the Rain" reboot.
Cogsworth before: Keep it down please!
Cogsworth after nearly the whole song: COURSE BY COURSE! ONE BY ONE!
Cogsworth's love of the Grey Stuff has clearly slowed his mind. No wonder that Saruman imprisoned him atop of Isengard...
This was back when the movie remakes was actually good

I have a philosophy in theatre that every musical has at least one song that I refer to as the "show-stopper"; basically, the song that gets the biggest and longest applause. In "Wicked", it was "Defying Gravity". In "Aladdin" it was "Friend Like Me". In Legally Blonde, it was "So Much Better". And in "Beauty and the Beast", this song is undoubtedly the show-stopper! Having seen it twice on Broadway, I can personally tell you that the applause on this number was the loudest and longest applause out of every number in the show.
This rendition certainly delivered! Everything about it was pitch perfect. The music, the vocals, the cheeky references to other classic musicals. And Ewan McGregor's stellar performance as Lumiere was just the icing on the cake! As a performer in musical theatre myself, I feel it ticks all the boxes.
If I ever audition for a production of "Beauty and the Beast", THIS will be the song I use!
Finally! The movie scene!
Imagine if you could’ve been turned into a candle with limbs and a body, and end up being a teacup or something.
